Whole v. 2% Milk/Yogurt for 2 Year Old

Maddy'sMom wrote: Hi Ladies,

I used to post a bit in the past, but I've not been on in some time now. I post regularly at other boards, and am not getting the feedback I'd like, so thought I"d try here.

My daughter just turned two on the 19th, and I was just curious if you all are/have made the switch from whole to 2% milk, or to lowfat yogurt?

DD is drinking whole milk, and YoBaby whole milk yogurt. Her pedi said it was fine either way, because she is perfectly average in size- so I have no idea whether to change or not, and just wanted some opinions from other moms.

And would love to know what kind of yogurt you all use for your 2 year olds as well. We LOVE the YoBaby, but are thinking we could also switch to the lowfat Stonyfield as well.

Thanks! biggrin.gif

coasterqueen replied: I think it was at age 2 that we went to 2% with Kylie. I think with Megan if she keeps growing as slowly as she is we'll stick to whole milk a bit longer. As far as yogurt I mainly buy whole milk yogurt. I just recently found organic 2% yogurt and bought some for Kylie to try, but I mainly give whole milk organic yogurt.

thats about right smile.gif

booey2 replied: Both boys have been on 2% milk since 2 years old and am just thinking about switching the whole family to skim, DH and I drink skim but I think the boys need the extra fat til after puberty, not sure. Would make life a whole lot easier with 1 milk and jug in the fridge.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: My son turned two in April and he still drinks whole milk. His Dr. didn't say anythinig about switching to 2% so that's just what we will stick with.

I say if her pedi didnt say either way and you arent worried about her weight that she should be fine with whole milk

Kaitlin'smom replied: Kait switched around 2yrs old to 2% sometimes she will ask for mommys skin milk. As for yogurt she likes the Daniamls not sure if its 2% or whole, honeslty never looked.

luvmykids replied: Same here, switched at 2. Yogurt depends, I buy a variety.

Momof3inMe replied: We also switched at 2 to 2%. I wish DH would switch b/c he is all about whole milk.

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
My husband is all about whole milk too

Boo&BugsMom replied: We never switched to 2%, we went straight to 1% when he was around 2 1/2. Tanner has always been a constipated child and the whole milk as it was really bound him up, so going the 1% route was better for him. But it was around 2-2 1/2 that we took him off of whole. Now, at 4, he drinks skim like us.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Our ped said it was okay to switch Brooke at 2. We didn't because it's easier to just have one kind of milk in the house so we'll wait until Madison is 2 to switch everyone.

She doesn't really like yogurt so that's not a problem.

7thHeaven replied: Hi!
Our pedi told us it was okay to give Sam any kind of milk, and since we drink whole milk we've decided to stick with that for her and we give her YoBaby yogurt at home but, when my MIL watches her she has a variety of yogurts to choose from. happy.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I usually buy a jug of 2% and a jug of skim and I switch off what I give them because my kids drink a ton of milk.
