Wil's western b'day party - I'm not prepared
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: I'm having a Western BBQ birthday for Wil's first. And I'm suddenly thinking, "I'm not ready!" I haven't sent out the invites yet, but they are already ordered. And I really haven't done any planning. But I've asked everyone to dress Western and we're keeping it simple (now don't laugh, I'm really trying to keep it simple) and just making BBQ (and some other stuff..heheee). Well of course I'm going to stick with the theme and make a cake in the shape of a big boot (maybe) and get red checkered table cloths. And I'm probably going to get sunflowers for centerpieces. And maybe toy horses or sheriff pins for the kids. And now I'm going overboard, but wouldn't it be fun to have someone bring a pony by the house?? He's only one and I'm giving him a wedding huh?...I'm going to set the bar too high on his first birthday!!! But, but...
Anyway, I haven't even thought about what the birthday boy will wear??? We don't own anything Western except for jeans and I have a bandana. Any suggestions? Where do I get a little cowboy hat and boots without spending a fortune? Mel?
mckayleesmom replied: How about a petting zoo?....Maybe you can find him some baby chapps...how cute would that be??
3'smom replied: walmart in the kids dept for $2-3 have little felt like black or red cowboy hats. My ds wears his all the time and we save his good hat for other times. They should have boots too or try a consignment store.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Western outfitters on Powers at Stetson Hills, it is on the South/West of the intersection. We got Katy and Matt hats there (like $10) but they have everything including the little dress up stuff.
kellibellisdillybear replied: That is such a cute idea!!!! I may have to steal it, but I have until March to decide
I don't know about his clothes, but Oriental Trading would probably have some cute favors and/or decorations. I know it's online, just try the name and .com
If you look under party in the yellow pages, you might find pony rides...at least here there is, but I don't know about your area
I don't think you're going overboard, as long as there are other kids coming to enjoy everything, you know Wil will probably be knocked out half way through it all anyway!!!
A&A'smommy replied: LOL that sounds REALLY cute!!!
NummyMommy replied: What a cool idea... I'm sure it will be adorable!!.....don't worry we all go "overboard" for the first B-Day party, I think its genetic. I was gonna suggest contacting your local Personal Ponies director to see if they had a pony that could "visit" but I'm not sure they do that anymore or maybe not "officially"??(my friend had one at her sons B-Day to promote them) I hope you have a great time
Maddie&EthansMom replied: This is what we did for Ethan's first birthday. Gymboree has their cowboy hat and boots on sale right now. The hat Ethan wore was a Gymboree hat.
We decorated with lots of balloons...huge balloons (from a car dealership). I can't get the table decoration picture to post, but it was a red bandana tablecloth, a teddy bear wearing cowboy get up, the cakes (of course) and the food (lots of bbq) I had taken pics of Ethan with a saddle (did you ever see those?) I made his invitations with one of those pictures and displayed the pictures in the party area. We also had the saddle there and we used that for decorations. I had streamers, too. I pretty much went overboard but it looked great. I used a party theme they have out now. Have you checked your party store? I used red, blue, yellow and green and really it was pretty.
Here's pics of the cakes....(my mother is a cake decorator/designer)

And Ethan's little cake...

I would post the invite, but you said you already ordered those. (and it has my address on it )
Good luck! I think you have some great ideas. Be sure and post pics. I can't wait to hear all about it.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Okay, well you guys are going to have to come then!! And K & M must wear their digs!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Thanks, I'll probably start there since cost will add up fast!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: OMG Aimee! I want those cakes! I am not going to attempt to make my own now. I bet Sam's would make one. Maybe I'll bring in your photo and copy...do you mind?? Your mom does a great job!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Of course I wouldn't mind! I bet they could do something similar!
