Withdrawls

CantWait wrote: A couple weeks ago I gave up all alcohol (no more wine), all pop, and all caffeiene in preparation for TTC again if we decide that's what we want to do. It's absolutely killing me.

Not so much the alcohol cause I don't drink a lot, although I do enjoy a glass of wine here and there, and it sucked going to a party last weekend and have to constantly say no i wasn't drinking.

Pop isn't a big deal either because I never use to drink a lot of it, until recently and giving it up for as long as I have already I've seen improvments weight wise.

The caffeine thing is a different story though, no lattes, no chocolate, and especially NO tea or cappacinnos. DH and I usually sit down every night with our treat and tea to watch shows. I'm craving a latte right now, and it's so not happening. I've been really irritated and grumpy the last week and I think it's due to the lack of caffeine. For awhile I was really addicted and needed a fix at least twice a day, and now nothing, nothing at all.

Tell me this is going to end.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Yes, it will end. It may take a while, but once your body gets used to it you won't even miss it. I gave up soda for a while and it took a month or so before I didn't crave it anymore.

Calimama replied: I gave it up awhile back. It's not so bad. I wasn't super badly addicted but I was enough to get headaches occasionally. About a week into the headaches went away.

coasterqueen replied: I can't really tell you if it will end, as I do not know. I never really had an issue with caffeine. I mean I do like chocolate, tea, soda, etc, but I can have caffeine-free drinks and be fine. Why not have decaffeinated tea? It tastes just like regular tea, so at least you won't miss your tea time. I can't have any carbonated, caffeinated, citric, artificial sweetner drinks and so I'm basically stuck with water and tea (decaf). I can't have chocolate either. So I know where you are coming from. Hang in there, I'm sure it will pass.

Good for you seeing improvements weight wise, too. I'm not seeing any with my new no-fun food life-long diet. dry.gif rolleyes.gif

It will all be worth it in the end, right?

PrairieMom replied: Its going to be okay. hug.gif hug.gif We are totally in the same boat with this one. No more caffeine, or alcohol here either. hug.gif it was really hard for me the first 2 weeks, but now I'm not having to hard of a time. It took me that long just to get into a new groove.
I usually have 2 LARGE cups of coffee a day, and really missed having that something warm in my belly in the morning. I did a few days of hot chocolate to transition off, and now I just have a large glass of milk in the morning.
I have also discovered the joy of smoothies. Being off meat, I have to be really careful about getting enough protein, and I am trying to eat as tho I am already pregnant. So anywhere I can get protein I will. Yogurt, banana, orange juice and peaches with a touch of honey is my favorite in the morning. Maybe if you tried something fun and fruity to replace your coffee?

HuskerMom replied: Good luck! hug.gif

CantWait replied:
I can't find DeCaf here in Russia. When we go home in the summer it's something I will have to buy. I don't get it, they are HUGE chai / tea drinkers, but I guess just regular.

Cheryl, you're absolutely right, IF things work out for the better this time, it'll be totally worth it.

Tara, I love me my smoothies, I started drinking these in the morning when I was working, it's just not the same though. I'm glad though someone is in the same boat and that the transition does smooth out.

JessC replied: I need to give up the soda thing too!!! I am a addict of mountain dew and energy drinks! Another thing you could put in your smoothies is flaxseed meal, I know it probley sounds gross but its very filling and helps me not drink pop early in the morning anymore wink.gif

A&A'smommy replied: is it going any better?? I tried to go ONE day without caffiene (and it was a day I had to work too) I had a horrible massive headach ALL day NOTHING got rid of it even after finally breaking down and drinking a diet dr pepper it did get better.. I dealt with it. Anyway I was just wondering how your journey was going?

CantWait replied:
Oh yessssss it's going sooooooo much better lol

It took a good two weeks, but I think the crankiness and irritability is finally subsided, and I feel better.

A&A'smommy replied:
I bet you do!!!! I think I need to wean myself off of caffiene (not for the same reason as you though LOL) anyway I'm glad its going a lot better!!! thumb.gif
