~~*Missi*~~ replied: ahhhh welcome to the winter life I live!! Lol I am 15minutes from the falls....

Also FYI the water authority can control the flow of the falls so not "all" the water is frozen so to speak..... makes you wonder how its a wonder when it can be controlled like a faucet

Crystalina replied:
REALLY? I didn't know that. That kind of ruins it a bit doesn't it? sad.gif

~~*Missi*~~ replied: Sorry for ruining it.
But I believe that picture is by goat Island which isn't part of horseshoe falls which is the "biggest" in the falls.....The american side falls is smaller then the canadian side... that area of the photo, at the bottom is where today they have cave of the winds where you can walk under the water its really neat and amazing (i believe)

If you go to the falls during the winter now you can't get close to it like that. its all blocked off mostly because of the freezing mist causes all the way walks etc.. to have sheets of ice etc...

It shouldn't ruin it for you, they did it because of the ice (as you can see LOL) several times has knocked out bridges because the pressure so they have in the past (not since i was born i think) controll it then....extremely rare occurances do they do that.

i will ask my grandma, her husband, my grandpa worked in the power plant at the base of the falls in the gorge..... The half bridge that you see in the background is still there. Its a look out tower and it jsut reopened not to long ago from "9/11"

Here is a site that i found while looking for the bridge the ice wreck once long ago.....
