Woohoo! - I quit my job!

stella6979 wrote: After being at the same place for 6 years with no raise, I finally said FORGET IT! I gave my notice and my last day will be next Friday. I'm sooooo excited, but scared at the same time. biggrin.gif

TheOaf66 replied: wow congrats on getting out of a dead end job

hope you get something else soon

luvbug00 replied: good for you! I'll be joining you on that train soon emlaugh.gif

holley79 replied: I would be scared ****less. We are talking lay offs here at the Sheriff's Office and I'm sick to my stomach.

stella6979 replied: Ya, I know quitting before you have another job lined up is not the smartest thing to do, but DH and I talked about it and we should be fine. He can work overtime any time he wants so that will make up for what I'm losing here, which isn't much at all. He can pretty much make in 8 hours overtime, what I would make in a full week. How sad is that?
Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

gr33n3y3z replied: I'm glad bc being at a job that long and no raise in all those years
You dont need them

Our Lil' Family replied: Congrats! I did that once too and it ended up being the best move for me! It took about 2 months to find another job and I took a pay cut but I was the happiest I had ever been at work...I only left that job to be a SAHM!

cameragirl21 replied: what is it that you do (or did) for a living and what does your DH do?
would you consider starting a business? believe it or not, in some ways having a child can make it easier to network in business. idk if that makes sense but depending on what your market is, having a child can work in your favor and it's an incentive to stay home (home based business) or out of home business where you set your hours.

Calimama replied: Congratulations!! thumb.gif

stella6979 replied:
Nothing special. Mostly just clerical work, but I'm the only one here who knows how to do EVERYTHING. I've thought of taking some photography classes, but I'm not sure the funds are available for that right now.

grapfruit replied:
Quiting my job (selling propellers, lol) and starting my own business was the smartest move I've ever made. Even IF it doesn't work out, I'm happy I made the switch. B/c I was NOT happy where I was before!

coasterqueen replied: Congrats!!! It may be a blessing in disguise quitting that way. I did that 7 years ago and two weeks after I quit my job I found a new one making a LOT more money to boot. Oh and while all this was going on we were closing on our house and had no clue how we were going to afford the mortgage. It all turned out AWESOME in the end.

stella6979 replied:
Thanks! I'm really hoping this will be a good move on my part, so I guess we'll see.
Stupid stinking bosses who don't want to give raises........ dry.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
if you want to be a photographer, you really don't need classes, these are things you can teach yourself. There are books and videos that teach anything and everything you'd learn in a classroom.
i can tell you, this is a GREAT business for a mom, probably the best out there, except maybe home daycare or something like that.

stella6979 replied:
Thanks so much! Hearing (or should I say reading) stuff like this makes me feel a whole lot better about my decision. smile.gif

stella6979 replied:
Really? I do love taking pics and have talked with my SIL about starting a little business, but it seems like such a big step. I wouldn't even know where to start. sad.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
it's not a super expensive business to start, the equipment is expensive but you can start with the basics--one camera, one external flash, one memory card, one really good lens. all of this can be bought with about $2500-3k.
i always keep multiples of everything but i really only need these things at weddings because obviously if something breaks i need a replacement right away whereas if you do portraits, you can always reschedule the session if something happens to your equipment.
start by learning...get a few books, you don't even have to buy them, you'll have some extra time now so maybe go to the bookstore and just sit and read, and keep shooting. you have to build a portfolio.
but it is a business you can run out of your house, you really don't need a studio, although it really helps but you can start out of your house.
there are articles online about starting a photography business and they're free to read.
i would also suggest joining some moms' playgroups, it's a great way to make connections whether you want to be in business or get another job, every person you meet knows somebody and you never know if that somebody is somebody that can offer you a great job or give you business advice or has connections in the community, etc.

coasterqueen replied:
I'm glad. It sounds like you went with your gut on this one and it's always the right choice. thumb.gif

stella6979 replied:
Hmmm.......I guess it wouldn't hurt to read up on it. Thanks for the info. smile.gif

msoulz replied: Wow Shelly, you rock! I bow to you . . . I wouldn't have the guts to do that. You will find a much better thing for sure!! smile.gif

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Ah - what a feeling ! I know it well smile.gif When a company sh*ts on you that badly for that long, giving your 2wks notice feels like a million pounds lifted off your shoulders. You will do just fine - trust me.

Keep the Faith. You made the right decision. thumb.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: Congrats!! Best of luck finding something you love! thumb.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Welcome to my boat! biggrin.gif It does feel like a weight off your shoulders though doesn't it? Scary and happy at the same time. I hope and pray you find something too! I will be officially unemployed at the end of the month so I am looking too.

Deshka04 replied: thanks stella

stella6979 replied:
Oh, it does feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I already feel happier. I'm super excited that I'll have more time to spend with my family and I know that DH will do whatever he has too in order for me to stay home. HE'S THE BEST and I don't know what I'd ever do without him. wub.gif I think I'm just going to enjoy being a SAHM for a bit and then look for something part time when I'm ready.
Good luck with your search as well Jennie! I'm sure you'll have no problem landing a job. smile.gif
