Work book for pre-school age kids?
coasterqueen wrote: Since Kylie is doing well with letter sounds and stuff DH and I wanted to introduce some workbook type activities for her. I bought one yesterday at TRU, but haven't really gotten the chance to work with her on it. Does anyone know of anywhere else to get workbook type activities for this age group? I'm also looking to find activity sheets for tracing letters, etc. Anyone know of any websites to print this stuff off?
MommyToAshley replied: We talked about it in another thread, but Ashley really likes the leappad plus writing. You can erase the books so she can use them over and over.
As for websites, Cary posted this one a few months back

3_call_me_mama replied: We really like the ones from Walmart. They are caleld Everything _______ Book. (Insert grade level) Cameorn loved teh preschool one when he turned 2 and the kindergarten one last fall. Nowhe is working in that one and teh grade 1 one. They are cheap too and theres a ton of pages in them. I think they are $3.88 or $4.88 each.
coasterqueen replied: Cool, thanks Dee Dee for the link.
As far as the Leap Pad, I may get that for Kylie for her birthday but DH and I really want to do things without all the little gadgets. We are afraid if she gets too into many gadgets she'll rely on them too much for creativity and imagination. Our nephew was intro'ed to a computer/ game boys, etc at a very early age and he would rather sit in front of those things day in and day out then go outside and play, much less play an actual board game or book. Not that that happens to all kids, but we just want to keep Kylie away from that a little longer, I guess. We're strange, especially since we love gadgets.
coasterqueen replied: Ah ha, I haven't checked there yet. Dh begged me to stop going to Walmart because it's always a stressful event, that place is, so I didn't even think to check there. I will have to do that next weekend. I have a gift certificate for there anyways so that works.
BTW, went to go get that Letter factory board game at TRU this weekend and they are out and not sure when they are going to get any in. So I am going to have to order it from their website.
3_call_me_mama replied: Also Staples carries some neat stuff like tracing things and such. Also you're gonna laugh probabyl but Lacing cards help immensly with dexterity for writing. Sounds crazy but it really does work. (Plus they are fun adn relaxing) Oh adn you can use your TRU GC online i believe. So you should still be able to get the game without spending $$> She'll enjoy it I bet!
jcc64 replied: We did end up getting the Leap Frog Letter Factory dvd for Corey and have watched it a few times. She liked it, and it is very clever, but she lost interest after awhile. I'll try it again later- she's home sick today. I got her a big fat preschool activity book at Target or somewhere like that awhile back. Again, she liked it for awhile, but if she senses any sort of pressure to "perform", she bails out. She knows alot of letters and sounds, but there are many times where she makes it clear that she's simply not interested or not ready in any heavy duty pre-reading activities.

jem0622 replied: There are tons of websites. Just use Google. I found great workbooks at a local homeschool store. They have great resources that we use for our school-aged DS.
ammommy replied: Here is another good website preschool worksheets for sheets. I like that it goes up to 8th grade level.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone for the links. I'll check them out tonight and start printing away.
coasterqueen replied: Ahh that's too bad she lost interest in it. I'll send Kylie over there to get her pumped up about it. The darn girl won't stop singing the sonk, it's in my head STILL.
b&bsmom replied: Both of my kids like the workbooks from walmart. We also like ones we have ordered from book order at school. To practice letters you can also check out Discovery Toys ( I only know because I am a consultant) they sell handwriting cards were you can use them over and over. It helps trace the letters. They also have one for cursive writing when they get older. Bryce loves doing the workbooks he calls them his homework and does them when Brittany does her homework for school. Hope this helps.
luvmykids replied: My neighbor who is a teacher also told me about a book called "Writing Without Tears" .... she uses it in her class and says she likes it b/c it's no pressure and good for short attention spans. I think you have to order it online though.
3_call_me_mama replied: FABULOUS BOOK!! Love that book It is truly a wonderful resource and a pretty decent read just for info>!
PhiMuMommy replied: oddly enough michaels has some inexpensive and fun workbooks.. that is where i got Alex's...
Brias3 replied: We also have a Leap Pad Plus Writing which Ben and Aliyah love. As far as workbooks go, I do acquire some extra activity sheets from Ryan's teacher at times (he struggled with reading and writing at first) and also have found some great material at The Learning Workshop. We also have a few Target ones. I believe someone also mentioned the Letter Factory one. They also have a game, The Letter Factory Game, and its great for letter recognition and sound introduction.
3xsthefun replied: I bought Kaitlynn's workbooks from Wal Mart. I also done a google search and found some really good sites.
