World war at my house
mckayleesmom wrote: Today is Mckaylee's first day that she has to go to bed without a sippy cup. My origional plan was No sippy cup and panties instead of diapers, but I decided to only do one and break the other habit later....2 big changes is too much for her. Right now she is in her room throwing a fit and its breaking my heart because she keeps yelling "mommy, you forgot my milk". I keep explaining to her that if she wants to start preschool next year, she has to learn to not need it. Big kids don't drink out of sippy cups at school. She doesn't care what my reasoning is...she just wants her milk.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh I'm so sorry. It's hard to see them like that and to listen to it. Stick to your guns, mom. We went thru this with Maddie, too.
mckayleesmom replied: Next is no diapers to bed......She is having nothing to do with that either. She says "Im scared to pee the bed". Leithan said that she witnessed Desi (her cousin) get into trouble for wetting the bed and that is why she is scared. She is afraid she will get into trouble.
luvbug00 replied: Hang in there Brianne
mckayleesmom replied: LOL...she just came out of her room and said "I don't ever want to go to school ..AT ALL"....she made sure to emphasize the AT ALL part.
Kaitlin'smom replied: BTDT, here is what I did I slowly moved the sippy out of the room. We tried cold turkey started to work but got set back...dont ask.
anyway fist it was with her the next couple nights on a table near her then evenetually moved further and further till it was out of the room. Now she has a sippy in the fridge she can go get a drink from when ever she needs it.
good luck.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Hang in there, it will get easier! Maybe you could think of a fun incentive to encourage her? I dont have any ideas off the top of my head...
mckayleesmom replied: She is starting to pipe down a little. I can't put it on her nightstand because she has to "HOLD IT".....She even holds it when its empty.
mckayleesmom replied: Right now she doesn't want to hear anything...she just wants her way. I told her that she is allowed to come out of her room to get something to drink, but the cups and sippy cups were no longer allowed in her room. She did come out a couple minutes ago and got a drink....then proceeded to tell me again that she didn't want to go to school...and now she has finally stopped crying.
My2Beauties replied: Hang in there girl. As far as the sippy cup thing, I'm bad, Hanna still takes hers to bed but she wear panties to bed at night and she hasn't messed up in months (knock on wood). You just sort of have to flat out do it, I mean it's do or die when it comes down to that, ya know. She messed up maybe 3 times since she's been potty trained in her bed. Those 3 times were enough for her to know I don't want to do this at night anymore. Very seldom does she even wake up through the night to pee, that girl can hold it, wish I could I get up at least once a night. But when she does, again which is seldom ,she just yells at the top of her lungs, come help me I gotta pee pee mommy or daddy It was just all or nothing at that point. I think McKaylee will do fine!
Kaitlin'smom replied: ahhh well it does not work for everyone.
stick to your guns then mom.
oh the other thing I did was nap times no more cup, only at night. once that was over night time was next and the hardest. It took abotu 2 months total to break her of it.
now I have to work on the thumb sucking had her almost daytime broke....
C&K*s Mommie replied: We never really did the sippy cup thing too much, so no advice there. Wish you well though.
But you said you went cold turkey, with the potty training, right? And she has been a success story with that, so whenever you do decide to go full fledged into pt'ing for naps and at night, certainly mistakes will happen, but she will be successful when it comes to that I am sure. Keep the encouragement & praises up, and she will become more and more confident with that as time goes on. GL!
kit_kats_mom replied: can you just give her water in a sippy? K has to have one at home, yet mysteriously, she falls asleep at school without one.
She also has to have a little paper cup with baby carrots in it. Did you know that baby carrots mummify overnight?
She usually takes a sip of water and eats a couple of carrots before bed but that's it. They are just there out of habit. I don't feel the need to break it right now either.
Halo42101 replied: To you & McKaylee.
redchief replied: She sounds like so much fun. I miss our kids that young. Not that much, but I do miss it. Good luck with it all Brianne. We're all pulling for ya!
