Would you do this??
C&K*s Mommie wrote: Quick question. Would you place pictures (of course in the frames) on the fireplace hearth for decorating?? I know many of us have kids, and we would not because of that, but otherwise would you decorate the hearth with photos. I am trying to find a new place to display a few special photos. I cannot find find anything online, but I think I have seen something like this yrs ago, but it was holiday decorating with the swags, and wreaths & such. Anyhow any input would be great.
CAMSMOM1 replied: Nicole, you should see my fireplace mantel! It's covered in pictures of our family, and I have one really nice painting over the fireplace. I think it's a great place to display photos/paintings. It's usually the focal point of the room, and it gets the most attention. So it works for me!
Kaitlin'smom replied: its what on my mantel and above, I LOVE pictures I have tons on display old and new. I do take the ones on the mantel down at christmas to decorate it, but one the stuff is put away back they go.
Jamison'smama replied: My hearth is level with the floor however my parents have a raised hearth and I think it is an interesting idea--I would think they would need to be taller frames to be able to see the pictures without bending down or sitting on the floor.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Well I went ahead and did a trial run, and I think it is okay. It is VERY plain right now, I think I will try to find something~anything (not sure of what yet) to spruce the blandness up some. THANKS LADIES!!!
And, Brenda it is a raised hearth. The pics are about 8x10 size in slightly bigger frames. Most of the people that we know are not nearly as blind as I am, so I think they will be able to look at them without squatting.
THANKS again, ladies!!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Mantel, yes. Hearth no. I would think it would be awkward to see. We try to keep pictures at a comfortable eye level.
Insanemomof3 replied: I am no help. I have no fireplace But it sounds like an interesting idea...you should post pics of it!
Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I missed it was the hearth Possibly a nest idea for it would be one of thoese tall screen like things that holds pics in it, the one I an thinking of is a single and I think it holds 5x7 or maybe 8x10's not sure
coasterqueen replied: agree with the screen with pictures. Otherwise I'm not sure about pics on the hearth. Mantle - yes.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Good idea, Di! I forgot about those... I have seen them but it never donned on me to actually buy one! I will look around for it.
If it is not too embarrassing I will post pics when all is said and done, and I get it looking somewhat decent.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I suggest using decorative items to prop the frames up a bit like a stack of vintage books or an antique small suitcase or hat box. Go to the thrift store or antique shops and pick out fun props and put the frames on top. Place a plant or some tall candle holders next to them. I do this for my book shelves since I have a ground level hearth. Instead of just a candle sitting alone or a frame, I place interesting titled books, like all my old art books from college, underneath them. It's more interesting to the eye IMO. I get a lot of inspiration from Pottery Barn catelogues!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Actually I have pictures on my hearth, but only b/c I haven't had the time to hang them. I do have some other decor on my hearth and really see no harm in displaying pictures on the hearth if they are in a decorative frame. I think it would be pretty
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Rae had some GREAT ideas!!
fashionmumofboys replied: I have mine on the fireplace mantel and it works just fine.
