Young grandmas - question
Bee_Kay wrote: I have a question to those who had children fairly young...... actually, for anyone that reads this.
As you all know, my stepdaughter is having a baby in a few months (it came as a shock!!!)
Anyways, her biological mother has had nothing to do with her since she was 2 years old (she is 18 now) so I am her mother and always will be.
I turned 34 recently and after the shock of her pregnancy, the baby has really been on my mind about being referred to as "grandma".
Not that I mind one bit..... but for crying out loud, I still get carded for buying cigarettes LOL!!!
So, besides "grandma" are there any other "granny" names (LOL) that your mothers use besides grandma??
Momof3inMe replied: My mom is Nanny and the boy's dad's mom is Grammy. My parents were in there 30's when I had Tyler and my dad didnt know what he wanted to be called b/c he was to young in his eyes to have grandkids (I was 21 when I had Tyler!) so he wanted to be called by his frist name and I say NO WAY!! So my kids call him Papa. For a while when the kids were real little he wanted to be called Papa Ed, but that never stuck so we just go with Papa.
Bee_Kay replied: It's so weird......
I am about to be a grandma.... and my best friend (who is 1 yr older than me) just had a baby 1 month ago!! LOL
Her son and my granddaughter will start Kindergarten together!!
b&bsmom replied: We have Nana and Dada and mom-mom and pop-pop However my aunt is called gaga and my uncle is dadoo to their grandson. It usually ends up whatever they start calling you if you don't decide on something first. Good luck!!
3xsthefun replied: My mom goes by Mamaw and my dad goes by PaPaw.
MIL goes by Memaw and FIL goes by Peapaw.
1lilpeanut2love replied: What about Grammie! My best friends mother did not want to be called Grandma. It made her feel old!! LOL!! She is known as "Bee-Bee."
I call my Grandmother "MawMaw."
Hillbilly Housewife replied: My dad gets called Papa Lou (his name is Louis - pronounced Looo-ee), my mom would hace liked to be called Mama Rose... but it didn't happen, they call her grandma.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Nana ~ my mother Grammy Linda ~Chris' bilogical's fathers new wife (WHEW! that was a mouthful!) Meme~ Chris' mother Oma~ a neighbor has her gc call her that Memaw~ was what Chris called his gm
AlexsPajamaMama replied: My Mom is MeMe. MIL is Gram. We call my grandmother Nana.
My Dad is Pappy - He thought that was a "cool" grandfather name. He was 42 when I had Alex and thought he was too young to be a Grampa.
Whatever you decide to be called, Barb, will be great and even better when its your grand daughter saying it!!
CantWait replied: My mom is a proud "nana".
JP&KJMOM replied: We have lots!

BAC'sMom replied: Well lets see we have..

JAYMESMOM replied: My mom was slightly older than you when she became a grandmother and they call her Grandma. My dad however is Papa most of the time.
I had a friend whose mother was 35 when her daughter was born and she went by grandma also.
Dont look at is a sign of being old but a cool new title you get to wear. Showing how special you are to that little someone who came along.
Don't worry people are going to assume you are the mom when they see you with the baby and you get to be like oh no I am the grandma. They will respond with but you look so young. It is very nice to hear according to my mom so enjoy it and soak it all in.
