Your kids names??
MyLuvBugs wrote: Ok...So, with all these new babies being born and all the names being decided on...How did you decide on your kid's names? Was is a family name, a sentimental name, a TV character, or something else?
Lorelei was a name that I found on one of those online baby name sites, and I LOVED it. So I put it on a list of names that I liked and emailed it to DH for him to pick one. LOL Would ya know it....that's the only girl name that we both liked. But it was ment to be I suppose....
Lexi....well, that's a different story....not really sure how we came up with it. We actually picked that name out right after Lorelei was born. We were coming back from her 2 month check up and the name just popped into my head and I asked DH if he liked it and he say yes.
Their middle names(Elaine & Alice) are family names, and were chosen as a way of honoring some of the women in our families that ment/mean a lot to us.
PrairieMom replied: We picked the name Benjamin becasuse we needed a strong masculine name to go with his Middle name which is Tracy. he is named after DH's father.
Alexis is a name that we saw on fear factor. We were having a hard time picking a girls name and Jokingly I said "whoever wins, that is what we will name our baby" I actaully liked the name when the girl named Alexis won. Her middle name NiKol is after my sister. (she better name her kid after me when the time comes. )
skinkybaby replied: My husband and I were both named after people- our first and middle names- so we decided that our first kid would be a complete original. We saw Avery and Grace somewhere and I asked him what he thought about Avery Grace. He said he liked it, but asked if we could switch it around so he could call her Gracie.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Troy's initials are TJ and so are his dad's (Troy James and Tyler James) so he wanted to keep the tradition so we came up with Tanner James (same middle name for the three).
Our next one I do NOT want a T name...even our older cat's name starts with a T (Taz), but if it's a girl, I really like the name Trinity and the meaning behind it (Holy Trinity) so I am torn!
ETA: whatever the next one will be, the middle name for a boy will be Marc (after my dad) or if it's a girl the middle name will be Marilyn (after my grandmother).
MyLuvBugs replied: Oh Gosh. I'm teary eyed reading some of these. I love it!
redplaydoh replied: I wanted names that couldn't or most likely wouldn't be shortened to an abbreviated form. I wanted their names to be their names period. I wanted simple easy to spell names because the last name always has to be spelled out. Then together we wanted names that would be pronounced the same in English as well as German since we knew that we'd end up where we are in Switzerland. DH thought of the name Lucas one night and I loved it. There is a German name that I loved but couldn't use as a first name because of my rules above. So we gave that name to him as his second name. Lucas Reiner (Ryan-er). Since his second name is German I wanted his first name to be American spelled with a c rather than Lukas with a k as in German.
After Lucas was born I realized that all of us have names that are 5 letters in length and that rule was added to my list for our second one. We debated over names and couldn't decide on one. I liked Brent, DH says it is pronounced much like a word in German meaning burnt. So that was out... I liked Logan, DH said it was an airport. He liked Linus and I thought of Charlie Brown. So just a few days before #2 was born he suggested Bryan and I agreed. It wasn't a name I "loved" but it worked... I really wanted Brent. His second name is Markus which is a popular German name as well as American.
Had they been girls, Lucas would've been Anika. But shortly after having Lucas my BIL married a woman with a girl named that so we had to give it up as a girl's name. So our second choice was Linea (Lyn-nah-ah) even though it was a name she'd have to spell... we didn't have girls and we're done so we don't have to worry with names anymore.
mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee Grace.......I made up her name...I liked Mckayla a little, but always wondered why someone hadn't attached e's on the end yet....So I did that and like Mckaylee much better then Mckayla. Grace is Dh's great grandmothers name.
Russell Nathaniel.
Dh named him. We had a deal...he got to name the boy and I got the girl. I really really thought I was having another girl...which is why I made the deal in the first place. I detested the name Russell, mainly because I was afraid that Rusty would become a nickname and I don't like that because it reminded me of the bully on The Little Rascalls. It has grown on me now. Nathaniel is dh's brothers name and Russell is his grandfather and great grandfather. His great grandfather was killed in Normandy.
booey2 replied: Both boys were nameless right after birth because we couldn't agree or come up wiht names. We still have our girl name picked and will never use it. With Matthew he was nameless for about 6 hours and then I just looked at DH and said what about Matthew, he said okay and that was it. His middle name is Vincent after a priest friend of mine (now deceased) who was like the father I never had while I was growing up. With Thomas we had an idea what his name would be but had only decided right as he was being pronounced a boy. His middle name is after DH. Now when you look at all our names notice anything:
Terri Txxxxxxx Thomas Txxxxxxx Matthew Txxxxxxx Michael Txxxxxxx
Nope, not planned just happened.
mom2my2cuties replied: We chose names that were important to us.
Michael Allen - Well - Michael was my dad's middle name. Allen was my ex husbands dad's middle name. Amazingly - when Mikee was born, he looked JUST like my dad Sad because my dad never got to meet his first grandchild. But it was great to honor him that way.
Andrea Michelle - Daddy's (hers) name is Andrew Michael, and MY middle name is also Michelle...But we picked it because of his name.
flirtycuddle replied: Jacqueline Marie- Jacquline is a name my df said and I like and it went with his last name.....Marie is my middle name and didnt decide that till the day she was born and we still couldnt think of one so he asked me when I was still comming of the epi what my middle name was....
William Christopher(poor kid very long name)- William is after df's dad and grandpa. Was supposed to be William Peter so he would be a 3rd but I hated the name Peter cuz that is my psycho cousins name. Christopher is df's middle name
my2monkeyboys replied: William Aaron, Jr. is named after his dad obviously. We decided to call him Will bc I had an ex named Aaron and my hubby couldn't get comfortable with it If we ever have a little girl she'll be named Emily Elizabeth-Grace. First name bc we just love it, middle names bc those are our mother's names and we couldn't choose just one.
luvbug00 replied: Mya got her name also after birth and resoning is a mix of so many things. her dad's family does the 2 middle names so her's is
Mya daniella marie L_____
Our Lil' Family replied: I wanted a biblical name and Thomas was the only one that we both liked (I wanted Nathan Thomas but DH won). His middle name is Jacob, just another one we both liked. After we decided on that name we realized it was the same initials as DH (Timothy John)! So we agreed that our next son (if we have one) will have my initials, it'll be Nathan Andrew. And well if it's a girl we still have our girl name, Anna Grace. Anna is my grandmother's name.
Nina J replied: I just liked Emily Kate. Same with Odessa's first name, but her middle name, Jean, is a family name. DH has been joking that if we have a son, he wants to name him Michael. That would make his name Michael Michaels
C&K*s Mommie replied: Christian~ I always liked that name, since knowing a camp counselor with that name many moons ago. This name and 3 other names were the only ones Chris and I could agree upon. Nichole is my name, and we liked how flowed with Christian, so we gave it to her as a middle name. And if spoken slowly C's name sounds like "Chris n' Nicole". So we have a Christian Nichole.
Kellie~ That was the second of the four names we agreed upon. Danielle was the only other name, besides Christian Nichole, that we both liked. Marlette is Chris' older sisters middle name, Summer Marlette died within 24hours before my MIL gave birth to her. Summer was the name my BIL would have chosen had they ever had a girl, so we chose Marlette to honor the sister Chris never knew. And a Kellie Marlette.
Calimama replied: Miabella Elisabeth. I'm Italian.. so we combined two names Mia and Bella. It means my beautiful girl.. and Elisabeth is my older sister's middle name.
1lilpeanut2love replied: Kaylee Brynn--We were looking through baby name books and we both really liked Kaylee! Brynn we found in a baby book and I liked the name since The Real World Las Vegas-Bryn was a cast member!!! We justed wanted her name to be cute and flow well together!!
BabyOwen427 replied: Owen is my paternal grandmother's maiden name, and my uncle's middle name. It's been a last, middle, and now a first name. Reed is my husband and father-in-law's middle who were both named for an uncle who fought and died in WWII. I thought both were very masculine and couldn't be shortened into any thing. Only thing I've realized since he was born, our last name starts with a 'B', so his initials are OB, like the tampon
Cece00 replied: Well, first off, with my older two boys, we wanted strong names that ppl wouldnt misspell (a pet peeve of mine) and that are "normal" but not too popular...
Ross Edward- My ex & I just liked the name Ross, and when we saw it in a baby book, we decided we'd like to use it...and Edward is my ex's middle name
Evan Alexander- My ex & I were seperated during the end of my pregnancy, and so I picked out Evan, and basically said "I'm naming him Evan Riley" but he thought that wasnt fair, and I knew he really liked the name Alexander & so I decided to be fair & make that his middle name.
With my DH & I...when we got pregnant, he said he wanted to name a boy after himself..but we had a girl...& we picked the name
Natalie Grace- we both really liked Natalie. I've liked that name for a long time & DH happened to love it also. I wanted to use the middle name Claire, because I dont care for middle names like Grace, Charity, Hope, Faith, etc but DH loved Grace, and hated Claire...and since I felt like I got the first name I wanted, I let him have Grace.
And with our baby...he was a boy...so obviously, he is John Patrick, Jr. BUT I refuse to call him "Jr" or "JJ" or "JP" or "Little John" or "Johnny" or anything like that...so we decided to call him "Jack", which is a nickname for John. It works great...I didnt love the name "Jack" when I was pregnant, but its REALLY grown on me, and I couldnt come up with any other nickname I liked enough...and when I say "John" in the future, no one will ever be confused. Its funny, though, because when he goes to the Dr or something, the nurse or whoever will say "John?" and I will just keep sitting there doing my thing, because I am not used to anyone calling him John. Finally they'll say "John K?" and I'm like "OH, thats us." I've started to write "John Patrick K, Jr (Jack)" on paperwork.
Heather77 replied: With Jake, we couldn't agree on anything!! I was watching my favorite soap one day (Another World), and my favorite character was Jake McKinnon. He was so cute, and I really liked his name. It sounded so all-american and manly . I brought it up to dh, and I was shocked when he actually went for it! His middle name is Tyler.... we just were able to agree on that one .
With Shane, we were in the car driving. I was so frustrated that we couldn't come up with anything we both liked. I mentioned Sean, and dh said it was "okay" ...he'd maybe consider that. Then I mentioned Shane, and he really liked that. I had mentioned before that I liked Christian, but dh didn't want it as a first name.... so we finally agreed on Shane Christian.
With Brynne, once again, we couldn't agree on anything. He REALLY wanted Kayla, and I didn't care at all for that. Every name I mentioned, he shot down. I had seen Brynn somewhere, and thought it just sounded really feminine and pretty. Troy really liked it too. I added the "e" on the end just b/c I thought it looked prettier, and it was different! For her middle name, I suggested Meadow. I think it sounds beautiful, and it has special meaning for me. It reminds me of the place I've gone camping at every summer, for almost 30 years. There is this beautiful meadow filled with lots of quakies and wildflowers. It's so peaceful. So she was named after that place. My dad wasn't too fond of her middle name being Meadow, but once I told him the meaning behind it, he thought it was kind of neat.
MoonMama replied: Braedin was a TV character from one of our favorite shows that DH and I used to watch together. But we changed the spelling. And Evan is DHs middle name too.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Logan was Aaron's grandfather's middle name. Read is my grandfather's and my brother's middle name. It goes back several hundred years in my family. Used to be a last name but changed to a middle name.
stella6979 replied: I heard the name Avery when I was young and watched Murphy Brown and I have loved it ever since. I remember Murphy having a hard time deciding on a name for her son and finally, that was the name she went with. However, I found it to be more of a pretty name than a masculine name so that's what we went with. Her middle name is Sophia. No real story behind that, I've just always liked that name and thought it went well with Avery.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Zacharie, Emilie and Naomie are names that are pronounced pretty much the same in both English and French. They are also original names...meaning noe of our immediate family, nor our aunts, uncles or cousins have the same name. Two of DH's cousins had daughter who they names Emily with a Y, but that's far enough into the family that we didn't really care.
the "ie" at the end of their names just kind of happened... we didn't want to leave Naomie out.
And, it's kind of cool that the letters of their first names, in order of birth, spells ZEN.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Well Kailtin was from a TV Movie, I was watching lifetime and the main char. name was Catlin, but I liked it spelled with K instead of C. DH did not like it when I first mention it to him. She did get the original middle name we picked out long ago. I have always loved the name Nicole and it was the only one that went will all the names on our list, her middle name was picked out before the first name.
While I would have loved to use a family name there was way to many to pick from and we did not want anyone to get hurt or upset, se we decided our childern would not have immidiate family names.
coasterqueen replied: We believe that our children should have their own, unique names, not a name passed down to them from another family member. They are "unique" in our family that way. So we just searched sites and Kylie was the one we settled on. We liked Elizabeth too so that became her middle name.
With Megan we both really liked the name Nicole, but not for a first name. So we searched until we found a first name we liked that went with Nicole and that was that.
holley79 replied: Annika was something DH came up with. My grandmother's name is Ann and I wanted something along those lines. I am also of swedish decent. Dh emailed me the name, the meaning and said it had Ann in it. Lily is after Shawn's great grandmother.
siblingtooolivia replied: Olivia Faye is named after a post of Olivia Newton John we saw in Applebee's before she was even concieved and Faye is my father's first name - Fayette - who passed away 6 years ago....we always told my dad we would never name a boy after him - Fayette is kind of a beat up name KWIM but we wanted to honor him somehow so she became Olivia Faye...
And baby boy to be - god help us but we can't come up with a name to save our lives - poor kid...we are having a really hard time - Olivia was always Olivia - never changed, never waivered.....so this has been hard, we were down to about 3 names and then bought a book now the list is back up to about 15!!!!!
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: We picked Mackenzie because it wasn't a popular name. Her middle name Rae was suggested by my mom and I liked the way it sounded with her first name. So that is how we came up with Mackenzie Rae!
kit_kats_mom replied: My mom was a hippie and named me Cary...spelled like the boys, so that I would not encounter sexual discrimination when I mailed in resumes. She was really thinking ahead. I always have to spell it for people. Drives me nuts. My middle name is Dylan (yes, after Bob) and I liked it better but never did go by it. I always wanted a nickname in Middle School and High School, but there is no way to make one from my name and I was sad.
I decided when I got pregnant, that I'd like classic names, with nickname possibilities so that the girls could be creative & choose names for themselves if they wanted too. Once we found out Katherine was a girl, DH and I had a really hard time coming up with names we agreed on. Finally, I gave him a baby name book and told him to go through and pick out his favorite name under each letter. I did the same. Then we sat down and went through the lists together. Alexis (mine), Abigail (his)-etc. We crossed off as we went and we ended up with the following names on a 3x5 index card. I still have the card in the baby book with everyone's votes. Katherine, Dylan, Heather, Leah, Taylor, Courtney, Kendell, Lauren and Mallory. We agreed on all of those and so we took the index card around to friends and family and had them vote. The tally was: 11 votes for kendell and Taylor, 9 for Lauren, 7 for Courtney, 5 for Leah, 4 for both Mallory and Katherine and 3 each for heather and dylan. Katherine was going to be Kendell Taylor until about 8 mos through the pregnancy. I kept dreaming of cats and finally decided that she wanted to be a "Kat" instead of a Kendall...plus, it worked with my nickame rule. LOL
Laurens was taken off of the list again because I really did like that name and we went with Elizabeth as a middle name simply because it worked well and again, offered nickname opportunities.
I didn't even realize until a year ago that they are named after Hollywood legends. Katherine (hepburn), Lauren (Bacall) and the middle names Elizabeth Taylor.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke is just a name that I've always liked.
Madison came from a baby book. We had it narrowed down to Madsion, MacKenzie and Bailey and Madison won.
Their middle names (Catherine and Sara) and the female characters on CSI. I told DH we can't have another girl because then I'd have to use the name Sophia and I hate the character...but now she's growing on me.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Emily Margaret is named after her Great Grandmother (DH's Dad's Mother) and her Great Aunt (DH's Mom's Sister).
Spencer Kimball we found his name on the internet and he is named after a Harrison Ford character from the movie the Fugitive (Dr. Richard Kimball).
Claudia Jordan is named for a character from the West Wing, CJ Craig anyway her name stood for Claudia Jean, but I didn't like the name Jean so we named her after my brother Jordan.
