appetite supressants?

amynicole21 wrote: I have zero willpower and have never ever been able to stick to a diet for more than a day. blush.gif I just can't. I'm thinking of trying appetitie supressants once I quit breastfeeding. Has anyone used them, and can you tell me whether they work and what the side effects are?

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Which ones are you referring to? Do you have something in mind? I'm just wondering if it's like Dexatrim or something a doctor would prescribe. wink.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I have never found a pill that works, heck even water does not fill me up. The only thing I find works for me is to keep busy, if I am board or have 'nothing' to do I tend to snack and not always healthy choise. I am work slowly on changing that. I have a piece of fruit if I am hungry and then find something so I am not thinking what can I have now. Join us we have a great support teem hear and for some logging what they eat help weither you post it or keep a journal for yourself. Maddie&EthansMom replied: Amy- I'll just go ahead and add my 2 cents. tongue.gif

Dexatrim type products really don't offer anything. I have taken them and yes, I had more energy. but they didn't suppress my appetite. The key is to get your energy level UP so you can exercise and boost your metabolism. A high metabolism burns fat and produces more energy and in turn makes you less hungry. I have a naturally high metabolism so it doesn't take much for a boost. I'm just too darn lazy to do anything about it. rolleyes.gif

I have also worked for physicians who have prescribed diet pills. If you go this route make sure you see your doctor first. Read the warning signs and do your research. It's best (IMO) to be monitored by a physician while on these meds...either that or check your BP religiously! And if you have high BP now...don't take them! Not even a doctor would prescribe them to you if you had high BP. wink.gif Usually they make you start out with a small dosage and gradually work your way up. This is the safest way to do it...don't increase the dosage on your own.

Like I said, read the warnings, go to a reputable doc and be safe. Not everything on the market is harmful, but not everything is safe, either. And, no matter what you take, they will encourage you to make healthy choices and you HAVE to exercise. hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: I took some once a LONG time ago when I first tried to quit smoking in my early 20's but it didn't work. I haven't heard of anything that will really work. My girlfriend took some OTC supplement that really did help her to lose weight but it had some drug in it that isn't OTC anymore, it was found not safe. Course she couldn't keep the weight off once she lost it, without staying on the drug.

amynicole21 replied: What's that stuff that Anna Nicole was on? THAT's what I want to take. Anything that can make that woman look as good as she does now must work miracles rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: Cort-A-Slim is what she took along with personal chefs and personal trainers. I have thought about tring it but I wonder does it really work? With out the extra help.

coasterqueen replied: I truly don't think it was the cortislim. It was the personal trainers and personal chefs AND the fact that she was probably getting paid LOTS to do the whole thing. Didn't she go broke because the court took her money away? That was probably more motivation than the cortislim ever was.

TANNER'S MOM replied: TrimSpa Baby

Thats what she took. I don't know anything about it. I wonder what's in it.

luvmykids replied: All I know is any I've ever tried made me shaky and weak. My mom loves Metabolife, but I think if she ever quits taking them she'll be sunk.

coasterqueen replied:
That's the stuff my girlfriend took. It had ephedra in it I think before and it was taken out. That was when my girlfriend took it was when the ephedra was in it. Course as soon as she stopped taking it she bloated BIG TIME.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Our local TV station here in Dallas did a test on TrimSpa. It is supposed to (claims to have) some miracle herb from Africa in it. It should have a certain percentage of this herb to actually work. It claims to have this magic number plus these additional herbs blahblah.gif BUT, each bottle they tested contained different amounts of these mixtures of herbs and some bottles didnt' contain this miracle African herb AT ALL! ohmy.gif

I don't know if it has changed since then...I saw they came out with a new one. But I agree no matter what you take, you will still have to eat healthy and exercise. wink.gif I wouldn't be able to do all 3. I'd sabotage it for sure.

I suggest talking to your physician about what's out there that he/she can prescribe. hug.gif
