are comforters safe?
~Roo'sMama~ wrote: I wasn't going to get one because I thought there weren't safe to use in the crib, but I got one in the whole set of crib bedding I got on ebay. They sell them everywhere... does anyone use one?
5littleladies replied: I've never used a comforter in the crib that I can recall. Too much fluff to worry about. I would just stick the comforter in the crib during the day-for looks -and take it out when Roo goes to sleep.
coasterqueen replied: I just hung both of my girls comforters/quilts on the wall with decorative quilt clips for decoration on their walls. We never used them. They are not safe.
5littleladies replied: Oohh!! I did that too. I forgot!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: That's a good idea... I can do that I guess. I wish they weren't unsafe because it's really cute but oh well! I am going to put it all together today and tonight Roo will be sleeping in his own room! (I hope )
3_call_me_mama replied: We kept them in the cribs, kathleen sleeps on top of them. Both my kids aer belly sleepers (i know very bad) but they roll into that position and have since they coudl roll (Kathleen since birth) and I;m not gonna go wake her and roll her back over just to have her roll back agian in 5 minutes. If you are worried about the comforter, jsut do as other;s suggested adn hang it on the wall:) Good luck on being in his own room:)
redchief replied: In most of what I've read, it isn't recommended to put anything in the crib with baby until after they've reached eight months. That's the party line as part of the fight in prevention of SIDS.
That being said, I have to admit that we had light blankets in the crib with all of ours. We didn't use comforters until after they were a year old though.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I never used a blanket at all until Wil was maybe 8 months or so. At first we swaddled him and then it was warm enough to have nothing around him (he kicked out of the swaddle anyhow). Even now, I use sleeper jammies and just put a light blanket over him. Anything too squishy is not a good idea IMO. No pillows, no stuffed animals. I even took the bumper out when he started to roll.
angelhair replied: I never used a comforter instead i used sleep sacks, they zip up over the clothes and are closed at the bottom like a bunting. you can use the comforter when the baby gets older like toddler and beyond. it will come useful in a toddler bed if you plan on using one. babies are so active and tend to kick off any coverings anyway and it is best to be safe then sorry. love dee
Kaitlin'smom replied: I used it as wall decorations as well, she just has now started using a comforter. Its pink.
six_kids_at_28 replied: yeah when my kids were like 1 and under I used those sleep sacks and kept those nice comforters hanging over the side of the crib for decoration during the day and took them off at night. but once they turned one I gave them blankets again.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Yeah I think I'm going to try finding some sleep sacks. I have the sleep sack jammies... or buntings. But I don't think that will be enough on it's own this winter - it gets very cold in here!
