baby wheeled walkers

boyohboyohboy wrote: What are your thoughts on using a wheeled baby walker? We don't have stairs where he would use it, but we have a lot of stone tile in our new house and andrew is crawling everywhere. I am so afraid he is going to smack his head off this stone.
I have thought about getting him a wheeled walker so he can follow me around when I am on that stone...
he can crawl on the carpet when we are there, but he wants to go where I go...
I thought that in general they are ok if we are not using them near stairs?
do you have one and what brand?

luvmykids replied: I think they're great as long as, like you said, they're not used where they can tip over or fall off anything. I had a Fisher Price, it was a lot like the exersaucers with tons of toys on the tray, but you could also unlatch it and swing that tray off to the side and have another plain tray for snacks and stuff.

sparkys2boys replied: I had one with the boys, but NEVER near stairs and I never let them outta my sight either. I think try it and see how it goes!

mckayleesmom replied: We had one and both my kids used the heck out of it.....We didn't have stairs..we had hardwood when they used it....I bought one that had a bunch of toys on it. I used that sucker for everything...I had a highchair...but I usually fed the baby in their walker... laugh.gif

lovemy2 replied: I agree - if it isn't anywhere near stairs, etc. go for it - he would probably love it - how about some new pics?????

moped replied: They are illegal here actually - you can't even legally sell them at a garage sale ohmy.gif

I personally don't like them, I perfer an excersaucer

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: I think if you limit his use it should be ok. Studies have shown walkers (if used alot) can hinder their walking abilities. Has something to do with the fact they cant see their feet moving when they are in the walker,,,they dont make the brain connection that they are actually making their feet move when the walker moves. Something crazy like that. LOL Again,, I think you are fine with a walker as long as he gets some regular crawling/floor time to explore. (and of course no steps)

Sam & Abby's Mom replied:
Are you referring to the push behind walkers or the exersaucer type walker on wheels ? I know they do not suggest using the push behind walkers anymore because of accidents - the walkers move faster than the baby and they fall and hurt themselves.

ZandersMama replied: they are illegal here too, any walker with wheels.

boyohboyohboy replied: Yes it is the one with wheels. I have searched the internet and found one I think looks good.
I think the main reason these are mostly not used, is people were not watching their kids and they were falling down stairs.
its the same with the new bumbo and be be pods, moms are putting their kids on table tops and places that are not safe and they are falling over.
i think as long as he is never near stairs he will be fine.

he wants to go all the time, but with that stone i am so afraid to let him crawl there, and i spend most of my day running to the kitchen or laundry or something so thats where i am. he hates the pack and play and is pulling himself up. so i didnt know what else to do.
he has out grown his exersaucer many months ago. he is so tall. and he has outgrown the jumper also.

Teesa®© replied:
Yep, they're illegal to buy or sell in all of Canad-eh, I believe. I went through HECK trying to find one! I had one for all my children and I thought they were great!

Personally, I think the only problem with them is total lack of parental supervision. We've always lived somewhere that had stairs, but I only ever used it downstairs and the basement stairs always had doors.

Some parents use anything as a "babysitter" - TV, puter, baby swings, strollers, etc. I never left my children in the swing even when I had to go to the bathroom. It only takes a second...

holley79 replied: Annika loved hers. She could zoom anywhere I went and then some.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I had one for Andrew and I loved it - so did he. thumb.gif We have a two story house but he only ever used it downstairs, or in my room upstairs with the door closed while I exercised or folded laundry. wink.gif I would have put Allie in it too, but when she was at the age that I'd put her in it Andrew was really into pushing stuff around and would have wanted to push her around all the time so I sold it and got an exersaucer instead. wink.gif The exersaucer is ok too but I liked the walker because Andrew could kind of follow me around when he was in it. smile.gif

ETA mine was a Graco - I found it at Once upon a child. They are getting hard to find... I think Walmart sometimes has a Kolcraft one.

My3LilMonkeys replied: We had one - Brooke loved it, Madison not so much. We have no stairs in our house so that was never an issue for us.

If you have a good consignment shop or used baby items shop near you, that might be a good place to look.
