Awesome picture! The only thing I would do is brighten the shadow on her face a bit, but otherwise, it really shows off her personality!!!!

how woudl I lighten the shadow and not look 'off'?

I don't really edit photos in Photoshop (or at all), so I am not very good at it. But you could do something really simple like this, with lighting effects. Anything beyond that, you'll have to get help from the PS experts here.
