cars

Kaitlin'smom wrote: my lease is up Feb 19th and I have NO clue what I want to do......

so heres my question, if you were to get a new car what would it be and why?

Keep in mind it needs to be REASONABLE not only in price but gas as well I do drive ALOT

CantWait replied: Chev Cavailer. We had one years ago before we got our Jimmy, I don't know why we were so stupid.

It was awesome. Very affordable, and great on gas.

grapfruit replied: I have a customer who is a pastor and he drives a TON. He has one of those Chevy Aveos. It's little, but he says he gets AWESOME gas mileage (he says 35 MPG or so but I don't know about that...)

coasterqueen replied: I have no clue as to a reasonable one. tongue.gif I want the Lexus mini SUV - they are so cute!

Dh is going to be buying a new vehicle, but I think it will be a truck.

luvmykids replied: Hmmmm....I had a Dodge Intrepid that I really liked, I don't know what they sell for now and can't remember what kind of mileage I got but I think it was pretty good b/c I drove about 45 minutes each way to work and still made it on a tank a week.

Are you going new or would you buy something a year or two old? If you can get a Camry or Accord I think they get pretty good mileage and really hold their value.

eta: I have a friend who has a Pontiac G6, she gets fantastic gas mileage....it's only a 4cyl but they've really upgraded those so she doesn't lose power when she turns on the A/C or goes uphill like the old 4cyls did.

lisar replied: DODGE DODGE DODGE

Dodge Durango, I loved mine and it wasnt bad on gas.

Dodge Charger A little pricey but not bad on gas. (I love my car)

Can you tell I am a dodge fan!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: it would most likly be new.

I dont even know if I want another van, car or other yet. I really am at a total loss

grandma replied: FORD Focus - it's great on gas and not expensive.
FORD 15o Truck - Husband and son have them, great ride and good price.
FORD Fusion - nice car

luvmykids replied: ITA on the Charger, but mine isn't great on gas b/c I have the Hemi...I'm sure the V6 gets much better mileage.

lisar replied:
Not much just so you know. I think its cause I have the suped up V6. You can get a regular V6 or a 4 banger for that matter.

My2Beauties replied:
No, Durangos get about 12 miles to the gallon in the city and only 18 on the highway, they have big tanks but that's still not good gas mileage. My car is just like that, I am constantly getting gas, like every 3 days it's horrible.

My2Beauties replied: Oh I'd say any Toyota or Honda mid-size like the Camry or Accord, their value doesn't go down as bad and they get excellent gas mileage. Dodges, Fords, Chevy's etc...their values drop drastically but some of the newer ones get good gas mileage. Oh if you can get a hybrid, but I know they are pricey.

grandma replied: Buy AMERICAN!

luvmykids replied:
That's what I meant, I think the regular V6 gets about 20mpg.

I don't know if they've remade their 4cyls, but it's a pretty heavy car, I think I'd want the V6.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
know of one reasonable that gets good gas milage? oh and fun to drive smile.gif

oh and casey thanks for that site. Its given me some good info.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: My DH drives a lot and has a little Saab, four-door. Gets great gas mileage. Not the cheapest of cars though, but worth the safety features and resale value. I drive a VW passat wagon, which I like, but it uses a lot of gas. Not as bad as an SUV, but not great. I think my Honda Civic got the best gas mileage, but of course not a great car size wise with kids. I think Hondas are really good with gas.

grandma replied:
If your leasing there are tons of good deals on American made cars, trucks and suv's. Also if possible you can use a family or friend discount of an employee.
Here in MI so many people have lost their longtime jobs, due to folks not buying American cars....

HuskerMom replied:
Ditto! Cavaliers are good reliable cars. Mine is 10 years old and never has had any problems.

We're looking at getting a new car too. But since we're going to get a 4 door and we don't care for the look of a 4 door cavalier we're looking at Impalas. They're very reliable too and I think they get decent gas mileage.

grandma replied:
I'm a big Chevy fan too, my first car was an Impala and I also have a Cavilier.....

Calimama replied:
I was going to say Saab too! thumb.gif

TheOaf66 replied:
one of the reason we relate so well lisa thumb.gif thumb.gif

A Dodge Avenger is a good on gas and such
Dodge Caliber is the new one that is stylish and efficient
Dodge Magnum has a unique look and ok on gas

My2Beauties replied: I'm all about the American made cars, but honestly their resale value SUCKS, who wants to put themselves extremely upside down like that? If someone can tell me a good American made car that doesn't cost a fortune (Cadillac, Lincoln, etc) whose resale value is good, please let me know.

grandma replied:
I have a Ford Focus, it's paid for and I don't intend to sell it, it gets great gas milage.
As for my husband he leases his trucks, so resale is not an issue.
Take your bigger American made cars, their resale value is good.
Do you actually buy your cars or lease?
American made cars keep our jobs here, as well as the money.

Kaitlin'smom replied: never had a problem being upside down in a loan, but that can happen espically when you roll loans over.

I am thinking I am going to look into chevy's as I do love On Star

Kaitlin'smom replied:
unless I buy used they dont have an 08

Kentuckychick replied: Right now I drive an '00 Pontiac Grand Am which I LOVE! And I'm hoping to update to a G6 in the near future. The grand am gets around 22-23 mpg in town and 24-25 mpg highway which is great since I've been driving it to school on the interstate. The most it's cost me to fill the tank has been around 35-36 dollars and that usually lasts me a week driving to and from school (approx. 45 miles one way three times/week and several trips in town) and will last up to two weeks during breaks and when I'm just working in town. It's awesome.

My dad has an '05 Mercury Mountaineer and he loves it. But the gas mileage is like any other SUV.

My brother owns an '04/'05 (can't remember which) Nissan Maxima and he's in love with it (literally!)

I don't know that we've really owned a car we didn't care for...

My best friend and her husband (the babies mom and dad) recently bought a '06 Chevy Trailblazer and it's had nothing but problems since the day they got it.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I agree with Marie - we used to have a chev cavalier also, was GREAT on gas.

Now, we have a pontiac torrent 2008. It's not bad on gas either, but obviously harder on it than a car would be.

There's a company based out of Canada that makes noiseless pollutionless 100% electric cars... they go for about 15,000 brand new... but they're not legal to drive in canada, go figure. They do sell in the states, though.

My2Beauties replied:
I buy my cars, have never leased before, see no point in it, to each it's own, but I'd rather be able to drive my car as many miles as I'd like without being penalized. Every American car I've ever had had a horrible trade-in value. The only car I ever had that had good gas mileage was my Mitsubishi, got about 30-35 mpg. My Ford Taurus was horrible on gas, my Geo Prism (made by Chevy) was ok on gas but the value dropped tremendously the day I drove it off the lot. My Mitsubishi kept it's value, was never upside down on it and got great gas mileage, it was just small. I started having kids and needed something bigger.

Kentuckychick replied:
I was wrong on my gas mileage (I thought it sounded wrong) I get 25-26 in town and around 30 highway
