cradle cap, yuk!

MyBabeMaddie wrote: The poor thing has cradle cap and is shedding dandruff like crazy! Its gross seeing all the skin and stuff after combing! Make it go away waa bawling.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I used mineral oil for my first. It was soo gross, his poor little head was COVERED and coming off in chunks. The dandruff, not his head. emlaugh.gif rolleyes.gif

It's very greasy though, but makes things easier.

amynicole21 replied: Nora still has a little patch of it. sad.gif I hate it, too.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I used to pick at Katy's until I was scared she was going to bleed...then I would hand her to someone else because if i looked down I would start picking again...luckily neither of the boys have been too bad

A&A'smommy replied: yeah lissa had that SOOO bad I used baby oil then I would comb it out YUCK I picked at it SOO bad too!!!

lesliesmom replied: I've heard using toothpaste and a toothbrush helps. It acts as an abrasive and breaks up and helps shed the dead skin. I have not tried this one. I have washed all my kids' hair using a child's hair brush to act as the abrasive. That has worked pretty well for me. I have also used the picking method until DH would take the baby away from me.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I used creamy baby oil on Tanner. I rubbed it in the areas where the cradle cap exsisted and then it comes off pretty easily with a soft bristle brush. You can also just wash her head with shampoo and right away brush the areas with the soft brush. Just stimulate the areas by rubbing your fingers over it enough and it will come loose.

Kaitlin'smom replied: Kiat had a mild case of it, DR kept says in was just a dry patch, I dont think she like the cradle cap term. Seems most babys get it...wonder why?

Here's some information on how it occurs and how to treat it if you need to or want to.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I always used a little baby oil and then a narrow comb - scratch it lightly across the spots and comb it all out.

I am like Lisa...if I see it, I have to pick at it. A friend's baby has it terrible and I can't even look at her for fear that I will starts scratching at her head. emlaugh.gif

withchild334 replied: Try using baby or olive oil to get rid of the cradle cap. Apparently it can easily get infected if left, or so my health visitor told me. I'm so glad that my youngest doesn't have it smile.gif For useful free parenting advice and great e-books, have a look at freeparentingbooks.com

Our Lil' Family replied: I also used baby oil and a brush to get it out, then rinse rinse and rinse again. Also, I was told to NOT use the baby wash in the hair, that is what makes it worse. Once I got rid of the cradle cap with the baby oil I switched him to Dove shampoo and he never got it again!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Hmmm, I may have to try the Dove shampoo...Wesley has it pretty bad. With Wil, I used the baby oil and comb trick. But I'm so busy right now that I haven't really taken care of Wesley's head. I just wash and go...LOL! Poor thing...all scaley! Took him to the ped yesterday for his 4 month and the doctor didn't say anything about it, even after I pointed it out to her, so it can't be all that bad.
