deodorant on almost 4-yr-old
my2monkeyboys wrote: My son has started having some awful sweaty pits lately, and they don't smell very good either. Not quite body odor, but not far from it. I just wonder if it would be too weird to start putting a little deodorant on him. I am not calling his ped about this... I'd feel too crazy. But I would like your opinions on this. Unfortunately I have always been quick to sweat, so I guess he's gotten that from me. My husband hardly sweats under his arms at all even though he does a lot of manual work. Not fair.. I am the woman, I'm supposed to be fresh and clean constantly, right!?! LOL Anyway, sorry for the long post!
luvmykids replied: I don't think I see why not, Colt in the summer gets this awful wet-dog type odor. I could be wrong but I don't see why you couldn't!
DVFlyer replied: I remember when my dad and mom first gave me deoderant. I don't remember exactly what age that was, but I remember thinking it was kind of neat that I could wear "adult" stuff.
I didn't realize they were telling me I stunk.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I don't see a problem with it!
C&K*s Mommie replied: I do not see anything wrong with it. Unless you hear otherwise.
Here is a product that may be safe as far as not having any aluminum in them, if that may be of concern.
I found this product here: Deodorant Stones
My mother uses this, and sometimes I will and it works very well.
my2monkeyboys replied: I've never thought about aluminum in deodorant being bad for you ... I've always just used whatever they sell at grocery stores/Walmart. I may have to look into that. Thanks!
ashtonsmama replied: I would say the same thing...you could also try Tom's of Maine, here's their website, it's all natural stuff. Natural Deodorant Good luck! I'm sure it's not uncommon!
mckayleesmom replied: I put some on Mckaylee when she sees me with it.....she begs me to "make her arms smell pretty too"
C&K*s Mommie replied: I use whatever too. Whatever is the cheapest, I am not picky. But if we (my mother and I) go out of town and I forget it, or I am at her house all day-- then I use her crystal spray. I do not know any other information on the aluminum, other than a long time ago there was a scare about it being related to a form of cancer, but not many all cancers have a definite source. And I have not done any research on it, to say that aluminum is bad for you in deoderant. But it works well, though.
Also, since it is only deoderant and not anti-perspirent too. The odor may be toned down for a while, but any wetness (sorry tmi) may still be present since deoderants are not designed to stop wetness.
Bee_Kay replied: I don't see a problem with a 4 year old wearing deodorant. If he needs it, he needs it. Being that he is so young, I would shy away from the heavily scented kinds. Maybe go with unscented (in case his skin is sensitive).
Ashley and Tyler, both, started wearing deodorant at about 9 - 10 years old.
my2monkeyboys replied: Thanks for all the help guys! I think I'll pick up a small sample-size of unscented for him to try. Hopefully that will help!
Thanks again!!!
3xsthefun replied: I don't see anything wrong with it either.
My2Beauties replied: I don't see anything wrong with it neither, just like someone else said I would just make sure it's unscented and has an anti-perspirant too to help with the wetness.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: For excessive perspiration I use Certain Dri deodorant. Its worn at night time before bed to help the enlarged sweat glands in your arm pits. And then during the day you still wear regular whatever deoderant. I have found that it works VERY well!! It does contain Aluminum Chloride. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/buyinprivate/cerdripresst.html This link is a store you can order it at, but I thought it was a good description of what it is. I just get it right at walmart
my2monkeyboys replied: Thanks! I'm going to look for that for myself! LOL
