did you find out the sex

J-rod wrote: i am wondering how many people find out the sex before birth and how many have a complete surprise?

we are wanting to find out asap. neither one of us care what the sex is (we're just excited to have a baby) BUT...i want to decorate specifically for either a boy or girl.

how about you all?

~~*Missi*~~ replied: Well I found out and told Chris LOL

I had bleeding at 20weeks or so. He had shingles and since we were in a womans and children hospital on the L&D floor they wouldn't allow him in anywhere but the waiting room. I guess its only important that the nurses and laboring woman aren't exposed but the family is fair game.

So anywhoooo the doctor was doing internal and external to see what was causin the bleeding...... When he said ohhhhh do you know what you are having. And before i could think i said NO. he said want to know. I was like ummm yeah. he said GIRL.
So I had to tell poor dh who was waiting out in the waiting room.... i felt bad but next baby I will let him find out and tell me! Then we will be even

C&K*s Mommie replied: We found out at 16wks with our first born, and our second born we found out at birth.

There are also creative ways to decorate for a baby-to-be without knowing the sex of the child. But that is totally a decision left to the parents to be.

BTW... welcome.gif to the PC boards!

luvmykids replied: We found out both times, I just can't stand the suspense! We had boy/girl twins the first time so we were prepared either way, but I just had to know.

CAMSMOM1 replied: I can't stand surprises! At Christmas I always shake and poke at all my gifts to find out what I got! tongue.gif So you could imagine how bad I wanted to know what I was having when I was pg! emlaugh.gif There was a part of me that wanted to wait until I delivered, but I knew myself better than that! wink.gif
We had an ultrasound done at 14 weeks, and it totally looked like a boy. But my OB was saying, it was to early to say for sure. So at 20 weeks, we had another U.S. and it was 100% BOY! We were thrilled! My husband started crying, and I was laughing! It was a great moment! wub.gif
We were just like you, wanting to decorate the nursery one way or another, for a boy/girl. So we went with a "car" theme, since my DH is a car fanatic! And it actually fits our son's personality well, he's obcessed with cars now! emlaugh.gif

Good luck with the ultra sound! Make sure you keep us posted! bigtup.gif

BTW, do you have any names picked for a boy/girl?

MomToMany replied: I did with the first 3, but not with the girls. I LIKED not knowing, and when we have more, we won't find out either.

But they aren't 100% accurate either. Just keep that in mind when you're decorating! 2 of my sisters can attest to that!

gr33n3y3z replied: I didnt want to know with any of them and we have 4 thumb.gif

MamaJAM replied: We found out each time....mostly because we're nosey.
With DD#1 - we had a very limited budget and I hate yellow and green -- so part of the reason I needed to find out the sex was so we could buy either pink or blue stuff.
With DD#2 - we were due within days of the time DD#1 was born and I wanted to know if we needed to buy any new clothing.
With DD#3 - we just wanted to know.
With DS#1 - we had a feeling he was going to be a boy - and needed time to prepare ourselves if he was (we had always thought we'd have 5 daughters).
With DS#2 - we were due at the same time DS#1 had been born - and wanted to know if we needed any clothing.

KingMom replied: We didn't find out with Colin, but with this one were are going to find out just so I can get rid of the boy clothes if it's a girl or keep everything if it's a boy.

We decorated in Yellow and green with the first and this time if it's a girl, we are going to keep the room yellow and just add some pink accents.

Good luck!

lesliesmom replied: We found out late (like less than a month before the first was due) that we were hvaing a girl so everything we registered for was pretty gender-neutral - Cow jumped over the moon theme... works for boy or girl. Child one ended up being a girl. For the second I had to have a special US to check for Spina Bifida so we found out early on that we were having a boy.. one of each, we thought... great!!! Then, in September came the bomb that Child #3 was on the way. Again, I had to have the special US for Spina Bifida and we were told its a girl. Which is great, I love girls but we had a boy's name picked out, we were so sure.... Ah well, we still have three months to come up with a name (we've known since Christmas)...

fashionmumofboys replied: With my first son back in 1987 they did not tell you the sex. You had to wait and find out that was okay since it was my first, but still I was anxious because I wanted to decorate.

With my second son we found out and same with our third son.

The reason we found out is I wanted to be prepared just in case I had to go out shopping for a girl, but that never happened.

jcc64 replied: Didn't find out with #1.
Found out at 20 wk u/s with #2.
I found out at 20 wk u/s with #3, but dh didn't want to know, so I kept it a complete secret until the delivery. (and he was SHOCKED)

J-rod replied: we both arent good with surprises. biggrin.gif

we hope to find out soon.

We have been looking at alot of name books lately, but the main 2 we have thought of before we got pregnant are

boy: Austin
girl: Aubrey

then we use my middle name for the boy to pass on (if not my moms maiden name will die) then use her middle name for a girl.

is 14-15 weeks too early to find out the sex? i know our doc has a 4D u/s machine.

MomToMany replied: 14-15 weeks is a bit early in my opinion. I'd wait until at least 17 weeks, 20 preferably. The longer you wait, the more "the goods" will be developed, and you'd get a better guess if it's a him or a her.

kimberley replied: my first 3 children, i did not want to know. parenting club corrupted me and i tried to find out for my 4th tongue.gif laugh.gif they thought it might be a girl but weren't sure because she was breech and we never did another u/s.. so i had 4 surprises.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: We did not find out as I wanted it to be a surprise. If we have another one it will be a surprise also!!

J-rod replied:
well we already got a doc appointment for tuesday and she will be that far along. so maybe we will see. i really just want to hear the heart beat and make sure all is okay.

if we can find out then great!!! if not...there will be another time to find out. our calculated due date is early August, so we have time....im just impatient and anxious

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We found out both times! I like to be completely prepared!

Good luck at your US! smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: Due to how late I found out I was PG we had to know, we had little time to pre-pair. Even though I was sure it was a girl we still had pretty nutural decor just incase.

Stephanie75 replied: We found out every time at 20 weeks. DH really wanted this one to be a surprise, but I just HAD to know! tongue.gif

Edward's Mommy replied: We didn't find out with Edward. And we won't with any of our kids and we want at least 5. I don't like surprises, but this surprise is a good one. Unless it's twins and no one tells me!! rolling_smile.gif

moped replied: We found out it was a boy and it was great - from then on he was Baby J!

PrairieMom replied: we didn't find out with the first one, but we found out with this one. i hope it will make it easier for Ben to grasp that his baby sister is comming, not just a baby. He is learning her name, and helping pick out stuff for her. Plus I wanted to know if I need all new stuff or to un pack all the boy stuff again.
