do you have a phobia?

cameragirl21 wrote: Monica's reaction to the snake got me intrigued so i figured i'd see what we are very afraid of.
do you have a phobia and how do you react when exposed to whatever you are scared of?
as for me, as i've mentioned before, i am very afraid of heights. depending on the circumstances, my reactions change. for example, when i was on top of the Eiffel Tower in Vegas, i felt like the floor was falling under me, not falling fast but i tried to ignore it and just enjoy myself but it felt kind of like the floor was floating downward, not falling fast but almost just disappearing. when i went to Wet and Wild (a water park in Orlando) my friends and i were waiting in line to go on a very tall water ride where you climb up the stairs and it starts at the top. so as you're in line, you're waiting on these stairs. the stairs had only horizontal planks, not vertical ones so you could see thru the stair planks to the ground. there was a maximum of 8 inches between planks, probably less so i couldn't have fallen thru if i'd tried but i kept feeling like i was going to fall thru them...my friends were talking and having a great time while i was holding on to the railing so hard my hands were turning white.
now when i was on top of the Empire State building, i actually felt kind of ill, particularly if i forced myself to get close to the edge...some people were sticking their heads thru the netting, i had to really try to contain myself because just seeing them do that made me nearly hysterical. i also kind of felt like a wind was going to sweep me off if that makes sense.
once i took a family friend's kids to the youth fair with a friend of mine...there was a nine year old boy, five year old girl, my friend and i. they REALLY wanted to ride the ferris wheel so against my better judgement i agreed...my friend sat with the boy and i with the girl. she kept looking over the edge and i had this awful feeling like she was going to slide out so i grabbed the back of her shirt which kind of startled her, not that it hurt but she felt something grab her from behind and she turned around toward me and thru gritted teeth i said, "stop moving around by the edge"...that was my LAST time on any ferris wheel.
i am not truly acrophobic i don't think because i am not afraid to be on ladders or out on balconies if it's not TOO high up...truly acrophobic would mean that i can't even handle that but i sure am phobic enough.
anyone else have a phobia?

luvbug00 replied: Hights as well. for myself and others. we went hicking not too long ago and lars kept going to the edges and sending me on panic attacks! I was like.. OOOOK baby, now GET DOWN! emlaugh.gif

stella6979 replied: I am TERRIFIED of cornfields.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I am terrified of SNAKES!!! noooooo.gif That's why I seriously haven't opened Monica's post...Thanks for the warning Monica! hug.gif I remember going on fieldtrips to the zoo and I was the ONLY kid who waited outside of the reptile house. I couldn't even look at them through the glass. Still that way. Even books....I get the eeebie jeebies even looking at them in pictures. emlaugh.gif

As far as overcoming that fear...I really have no desire to. Yeah, I can look at the big boa at the zoo now. Wil likes it. But any more than a few seconds looking at it is way too much for me. I need to move on.

sparkys2boys replied: One word...... spiders...

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Apiphobia!!!

I am bee-phobic. It doesn't matter how many times I tell myself that if I leave them alone, they will leave me alone, I still go bonkers every time I see one. Run away kind of doing that strange humming "ee-ee-eee" sound.

kit_kats_mom replied: spiders make me do the creepy dance (which the girls and my DH enjoy) and I break out in goose bumps and get nauseaus. I flat out hate them. Sheez, I'm even getting the willies just thinking about them. Anyway, I used to not be afraid of anything but I had a really bad drug reaction as a teen and I hallacuinated that all of the hairs on my body were baby spiders and they were crawling all over me. blink.gif Ever since then, I just can't stomach them.

I've developed a fear of driving over bridges over the last few years and I have a mortal fear of touching chalkboards.

Jamison'smama replied: Bridges---now, the recent tragedy doesn't help it one bit. I also have a fear of tight spaces---claustrophobia --except that the spaces have to be small enough that I can't fully sit or stand-up. Elevators etc. are fine--crawling through a long tunnel---terrifying! Oh, and roaches, good Lord, those little creatures give me the willies!

luvmykids replied: We all know mine LOL. And I'm pretty sure it's my only one. I don't necessarily like heights or spiders or some other things like that which cause phobias in others, but I can deal with them.

The snake thing doesn't really have a root to it, I'd never even come across one in my life until we moved to the country. All I know is the first time I saw one at our old house, I had the same exact reaction I do now. Once there was a baby snake on the sidewalk from the house to the driveway and I was completely frozen. Literally couldn't move or even scream, just stood there with tears streaming down my face until DH happened to see me out the window and came to move it. So I guess the speed with which I jumped out of my chair and over my desk in todays incident is an improvement emlaugh.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I have an intense fear of things restraining my neck. I panic big time and can't deal with it. Even if DH puts his arm around my neck when we're cuddling and it's a bit tight I freak out.

Crystalina replied: Heights! When I was in Miami I stayed at the FountianBleu and we were on the 23rd floor! We were right on South Beach (literally) and I could not enjoy the view because I would get so dizzy. We started out on the 8th floor, which to me was too high, but our fridge started leaking so they moved us up. Waaaay up. Also the the carpeting was patterned and just walking down the stairs to get to the restaurant I had to hold on to the railings because I was so dizzy. That entire hotel made be dizzy and I swear the building was moving. My country butt is not use to being so high up. emlaugh.gif
