do you let your kids - eat the candy
boyohboyohboy wrote: do you let your kids eat the candy they collect on halloween night? i am so afraid now a days to let them... i usually make a bad at home and have it ready and just switch it when he isnt looking and get rid of what we get door to door....
that way he gets candy i am pretty sure is ok..unless someone tampers with it in the store...
CantWait replied: Yes I do. I go through the bag carefully and inspect each and every piece of candy to make sure it's not ripped, no holes, the wrapping isn't loose or untwisted, bags have all the air in it, etc... We don't usually end up getting rid of much more then a handful.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I do go through the candy and inspect it, but my kids are only allowed to eat so much candy anyway. I don't want them tearing into the entire bag and I'm picky about what I give them. I know, what fun that is, huh? I buy candy and put in their bags. That's mostly what I give them. AND, we only trick or treat at houses we know or downtown at the businesses. We have a Halloween on the square that we attend each year.
MyLuvBugs replied: No. Lorelei doesn't really eat candy. We feel it's better to not give her alot since she's already a nut with activity each day. LOL
ediep replied: sure, but Jason doesn't like much...only plain chocolate and twizzlers. I only take him trick or treating to houses that I know.
luvbug00 replied: since Mya can't have nuts anymore I will be conduming most of it. But i do like everyone else go threw it .
mom2my2cuties replied: Nadia - you just have to pray for LOTS of pixie sticks, smart tarts and smarties and those types of candies
ETA - YES I am going to let the kids eat the candy - however I am going to be checking it over closely.
PrairieMom replied: I let him eat it, but he doesn't get much, and we inspect it all. LAst year we gave 90% of it to a kid that came to our house trich or treatting. I was like dude, open your bag" then I dumped all Ben's loot inside. That kid was PUMPED! I bet he comes back again this year!
mckayleesmom replied: I let them eat it......Its really hard to stop Mckaylee....Usually she has eaten half the bag before we are done trick or treating. Usually they are allowed a couple pieces a day for a week and then they lose interest and I pitch it all.
jacobsmama replied: I also let Jacob eat some of the candy and throw the rest out when he loses intrest with it. I also inspect it very well.
hawkshoe replied: We live in a very close knit neighborhood. I know all the people my children trick or treat at so I have no problem letting them eat the candy.
gr33n3y3z replied: They only go to houses we know and businesses
My3LilMonkeys replied: I let them eat what they want, a few pieces a day, until they stop asking for it then I toss it. I do check it all before they get it though.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: My dh said that the whole "needle in the candy" scare isn't really true anyways. The only instances that something like that has been reported to happen ever were in cases where a family member actually put the needle in there themselves.
Ok I looked it up on snopes and there have been a couple instances where it happened, but I still think if you know the neighborhood your child is trick or treating in he's fine.

3xsthefun replied: Yes, we just check it closely before we let them have any.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Meh...sure... after I check it to be doubvle sure... but in any case... like 98% of kids being poisoned by candy or whatever, it happens from a family member... so I'm not all that concerned.
They do eat some... but let me put it this way... we still have a big bunch leftover from last year up in my kitchen cupboard.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Yes we do, but I inspect it all before he gets to eat any. We also do not let him have the whole bucket to eat whenever he wants. We limit his intake on it. I think we still have Halloween candy leftover from last year to be honest!
C&K*s Mommie replied: not really. Candy is a treat around here for them, they do not eat candy very often. In truth some of it will be hidden by me for me to consume (out of their sight of course ). The rest we will dispose of in the trash.
coasterqueen replied: same here.
