does this look like heat rash? - sorry, bad pic

huggybugboy wrote: you probably cant tell with this picture. I've never seen heat rash so I really dont know. It looks like little pimples or something all over his torso. We've been home for 2 days now (in 50 degree weather) so I thought it would be gone now. It almost seems to be spreading. Is there anything I can do for his heat rash?

mummy2girls replied: its hard to tell but what you are describing i would say probably yes. Put him in a cool bath and just sponge him down. jenna used to get those alot when she was little so i did alot of baths... if it doesnt help i would take him in just in case.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I hope it clears soon for him. sad.gif hug.gif

Did he run around without restricting clothes in the heat when you were down there?

As Shelly said keep him cool with showers, or baths, and sponges. Avoid anything that has oils that can trap moisture in his sweat glands. Keep him cool and dry as much as possible, and once the area is dried you can apply hydrocortizone cream to keep him from itching or being in pain from the stinging that often occurs with heat rashes.

If it keeps on, even after home treatment or they appear worse, definately have him taken in to his pedi to be looked at.

Many wishes for the best. hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: If you have sponged him off with cool water and let him go without his shirt, and it still hasn't gone away, then I would say it is not heat rash. Ashley's heat rash always went away within a few hours after sponging her off and removing the clothing.

What kind of detergent are you using? Maybe that is causing irriation. Or a different type of clothing? Just a thought.

I'd at least call the doc if it doesn't go away.

If it does not go away I would switch detergent. Mine have had reactions to different ones over the years and it kinda looks like heat rash. Good luck and KUP.

moped replied: Looks like heat rash to me - Jack used to get it all the time..................not too much or no lotion until it clears and dress him cool!

A&A'smommy replied: yes it does poor thing.. alyssa use to get them all the time she was/is a very hot natured child. Alyssa lasted a while too but I would also suggest maybe switching detergents or calling your ped if its not gone soon!! hug.gif

TheOaf66 replied: on the stomach yes, I live with that every day but on the face that does not look like heat rash of course could just be hot

holley79 replied: dunno.gif I hope it goes away though. hug.gif

huggybugboy replied:
tongue.gif he's just hot-faced in this pic because he didnt want me to look at his belly. Sorry, its just on his stomach and back. And he has kept cool for the last 2 and a half days. He just wore shorts and a tshirt in Sac when it was hot. Maybe I'd better call the doc today. sleep.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I don't think it's heat rash. It looks like Fifth's Disease! Another name for it is slapped cheek syndrome, which is an indicator...the red cheeks. The belly is the most common place for the spots. It may get worse, but the rash means that it is at the end of the virus. The spots are not bothersome. Has he had a fever within the last few days?

huggybugboy replied: no, the cheek is fine, he was just mad. it doesnt usually look like that. I hope to God its not 5th disease. I dont think I could deal with a sick kid on top of moving and everything else. rolleyes.gif

oh and no fever. he acts just fine! dunno.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Humm...if it is Fifth's Disease don't be alarmed. The rash comes at the end. Our son has had it a couple times with no warning signs either. Be on the look out for fevers though to be safe. I wonder if it could be Roseola. But usually those spots look a lot bigger. It could be prickly heat rash. Our son gets the prickly heat every now and then and it does look similar to this if he is sweating a lot. If it does get a lot worse or seems bothersome to him, I would call his ped. just to be on the safe side. But if it doesn't bother him though and it stablizes, don't worry about it.
