electricians?

kit_kats_mom wrote: Any of you ladies have fix it or electrician hubbys? My DH is very smart with computers but house stuff...fergeddit about it. tongue.gif
Anyway, all of the lights in our house have been flickering for awhile now and I'm wondering what could be causing it. Is it a problem with the power coming into our home or a problem with our wiring or breakers? I know nothing about electricity and frankly it scares me. If your hubby is a fix-it kinda guy, could you ask him and post his opinion.

A&A'smommy replied: You probably should get a electrician my hubby can do all that stuff because he had to help his mom and dad remodel three or four houses. I may be wrong but that sounds like a short...JMO Good luck

chloe&tysmommy replied: I'm sorry I can't help either.....my dh is nowhere NEAR handy laugh.gif laugh.gif

Sure hope someone can help you out though

DansMom replied: Musicians are even less handy than computer guys. DH can assemble his drum set and mow the lawn, that's about it biggrin.gif Good luck!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: My DH is no electrician, but it sounds like a short to me as well. I would call the electrician in to see for sure.

Mom2_my3boys replied: Hey there. My Hubby is an Electrician, but is at work right now. It sounds like a short to me, but who am I! I will try to reach Jason on his Nextel and let you know what he sais. Untill then good luck!

kit_kats_mom replied: Aw Phooey. We called the city to come and check the voltage coming into our house...hoping that it was their problem & not ours and that they would fix it. It's not. someone said it may be a voltage problem because it isn't just one light, it's all of them and I've noticed that the fan on the microwave seems to slow down a lot too. Great. I live in a money pit. rolleyes.gif Tazmome, if your dh has any suggestions on what we can check ourselves to save some $ on an electrician, let me know. Thanks ladies

MomofTay&Sam replied: Mine is a Electrician also! I will call him on his cell now. 2 secs dialing...He says you need to call your power authority. smile.gif

jcc64 replied: We've had that problem here and I've had a few electricians up here to look at it. In our case, the conclusion was that it was nothing dangerous, it was not an indication of a short. It had something to do with the supply coming off the poll and into the house. Apparently, we share with 3 other houses and if they're using a lot of power it compromises our supply. It would probably be helpful to pay attention to when it flickers. Ours was always at the same time of day, around dinner. You need to contact whomever supplies you with power.

victoire2002 replied: DH is an Electrical Engineer, and will NEVER let me touch any light switches if he has seen them flickering. He says it is a potential fire hazard, so it's probably good idea to call electrician to be safe. He has basically unscrewed a few of our ceiling light fixtures because they were buzzing or flickering, and of course, we have NEVER gotten them repaired~! HTH

MomofTay&Sam replied: DH says that the Power Authority must come out and check the outside connections. The panel in the house should be checked by a licensed mechanic, you might need a new panel, maybe something has come loose or perhaps you have a short in the panel itself. (sorry I am trying to quote him) We are in NY and the union is very strict as is the power authority, they wouldnt waste a minute coming out to test. I hope this helps. I know an electrician is very exspensive. sad.gif

kit_kats_mom replied:
Thanks. They came out and the power coming into the house is fine. Drat! DH is going to recheck his work on the porch light that he put in a few months ago. and if that doesn't fix it, we will schedule an electrician to come out. Thanks everyone and thank your DH's for me.
