fiber 35 diet - still doing it?
boyohboyohboy wrote: ok I am checking in to see who is still doing it? its killing me if i go more then 20grams right now..but i have lost 4 pounds.. I am only half way thru the book.....
moped replied: IS that the cereal or bars??
boyohboyohboy replied: neither.. its a change in the way you eat..you just eat what ever calories you normally do..for instance I am trying to stay between 1200-1300 day. and you have to eat 35 gms of fiber food daily.. there is a web site called fiber 35 diet by brenda watson if you want more info.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Hmm never heard of it. WTG on the 4 pounds!!! I am a fiberholic...haha...so its nothing new in my diet. I think it does help maintain weight loss for sure. Keep up the good work!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm not - only eating 1200 calories a day wasn't working for me. I was on such a roll with exercising and then I got so worn out and weak... I dont think I was eating enough for how much I was working out. I'm just now getting back to exercising again, and I'm trying to eat less and cut out sugar, and I'm trying to eat a lot of fiber, but I'm not counting calories anymore.
jcc64 replied: I like the idea of more fiber and have been trying to take in as much as possible, but man, the gas is KILLING me!!!! I'm a big fan of Fiber One Caramel Crunch cereal right now (10 grams per serving)- thanks to whomever recommended that- but by the end of the day, you could pop me with a pin.
Kaitlin'smom replied: ya I can do more thean around 20-22g a day or I suffer. I am tring to slowing increase. oh the gas.....not sure if I like that either. but I am down 5lbs.
gr33n3y3z replied: Its not about eating less its about eating healthy and not over stuffing yourself just eat until you start to feel full People make the mistake of eating less calories and over working out and doing those crash diets that wouldnt keep a bird alive I agree knock the extra sugars out and drink more water but dont do 100% away with sugar either High Fiber diets great but you have to replace and make sure there is enough foods for intake to take care of what has to come out also.
boyohboyohboy replied: I agree one thing she does mention in the book, that you need to just not take in an over abundance of calories, but if you are working out a lot you might need more calories, I think I would start at 1500 or 1800 and then see if that still works with the increase i fiber..and then decrease if you need or maybe increase depending on how you respond to it.. she also said that for each gram of fiber you eat you can subtract 7 calories...so you can potentially subtract 240 calories a day..
~Roo'sMama~ replied: When I did the thing online, on the Fiber35 Diet website, when I entered in my weight, how much I want to lose (30 pounds) and my activity level, it told me to eat no more than 1236 calories a day. And they said that should be before the fiber flush factor, so my "net" calories were more like 1000. Of course it also says you shouldn't ever eat LESS than 1200 a day - so that didn't give me much wiggle room. I went over a couple days and was a little under a couple days, but by the end of the week I was totally shot and had to stop exercising. Now I have to do the whole starting out with exercising all over again... I started yesterday and I'm really bummed because the first two weeks are always so hard for me, and I'd gotten to the point where it was easy and I could push myself more, and then the diet just ruined it.
What I'm attempting to do now sounds more like what you are doing. But I'm not technically doing the fiber35 diet, because I'm not going to their website anymore and I don't have the book. And I'm not going to count calories, because it will just stress me out.
What's pretty sad about me though is my main source of fiber is coming from things that just have it added in, like the fiber one granola bars and all bran crackers and drink mixes, and Quaker high fiber oatmeal. The only things that I like that naturally have a lot of fiber are apples and oranges and bananas.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oh one thing that was really weird when I was doing it, I was eating the 35 grams of fiber a day... I even went over a couple times, and I didn't get any gas or stomach aches from it, but by the end of the week I was constipated. I am normally constipated... I have been since I was a kid. When I was just drinking a lot of water every day and eating healthy and exercising it really made a difference, but for some reason the fiber diet made it worse again - I thought that it would have the opposite effect.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: You guys, not trying to be a downer, but what you have got to remember is that these pre-packaged products that "add" fiber like the bars and cereals are typically LOADED with sugar. Yeah, they may have more fiber than what you're used to eating, but just like the things that say "non fat", they replace the fat with more sugar for taste. Try and choose natural fiber rich foods. Grind up flax seed and toss it on natural unsweetened cereals. Toss over plain yogurt or in a smoothie. Toss in unsweetened dried fruit - apricots, plums, blueberries...all high in fiber. Add black beans to a green salad. Cut up broccoli florets and saute with chicken. IMO some of these "new" high in fiber packaged products are just a marketing scheme. They make you feel like you are eating well because of what it says on the front of the box in big print, but read the ingredients closely and you may realize you are eating more junk than you think, more calories and more sugar. And because of the sugar in these products, you are full for a short period and then eat more later. Mostly carbs. Natural fiber should help you feel full for awhile.
JMHO.
My2Beauties replied: I wonder what I eat on a daily basis that contains fiber because I seem to always have gas and I go #2 A LOT! Maybe it's not fiber maybe it's the greasy crap I eat....
I am so embarrassed now
boyohboyohboy replied: I realized this also when I started looking at the fiber food. I totally agree that adding the flax seed is what seems like the best idea..I saw that our store cares a flax seed oil so i am wondering if that is the same thing, if i can use that in my cooking..?
Our Lil' Family replied: Doesn't it taste great?? I love it. I used to get gas too but maybe my body got used to it...I don't anymore. I hope it eases up on you!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm sure you're right, but I don't like ANY of the things that you mentioned. Except for broccoli and that doesn't have as much fiber as I thought it would. I don't eat a ton of the pre-packaged things that have the added sugar, just maybe one of them a day if any. I just don't eat anything else that has that much fiber in one serving.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Flax oil is high in omega 3's and so super good for you. But I'm not sure about actually cooking with it, as in sauteing with it. It may break down when heated. Good question! I sometimes use it for salad dressing. DH makes a smoothie every morning and pours a little in. You can also stir it in yogurt. Or drizzle on anything really. I think the actual seed tastes so much better though!! Wil is allergic to seeds, so we have to be careful. But I seriously eat it raw everyday.
