first sonograms - taking kids
my2monkeyboys wrote: Has anyone ever taken their child(ren) in to watch the first sonogram? I'm tempted to bring Will bc I think he'd really like to see it, but I'm afraid to, just in case something is wrong. It'd be hard for me to handle it and deal with him about it, too, I think. So what do you ladies think?
stella6979 replied: My SIL took my nephews and they enjoyed it. Well, the younger one (3) wasn't all that interested, but Collin (7) was in awe of it. If and when I ever get pregnant again, I'll definitely be taking Avery.
skinkybaby replied: We brought our daughter, who was 2 at the time, to the ultrasound when we found out the sex of the baby . She thought it was the neatest thing ever. She got pretty bored towards the end though.
DillsMommy replied: We brought Dylan to one. He was pretty good at first but got a little fidgety towards the end.
Boys r us replied: I wouldn't have a problem with it. My 1st few with Alliebelle were emergency u/s due to significant bleeding a couple of times and I had several losses immedietely before my pregnancy with her..so the bleeding was very scary. Anyways, I guess my point here is that I didn't have a chance to plan to bring either of my boys to that one and I probably would have been too scared to do so anyhow with my situation. But honestly, I don't know if I'd make a point of doing it anyhow b/c honestly..there's really nothing to see so early. I would DEFINITELY let him go to your 20 week u/s I think that one is really neat for everyone!
5littleladies replied: I won't be taking my kids to any of my early ones due to my past experiences but they will definitely be invited to my 20 week!
Calimama replied: Yeah I'd probably wait until the next one, or when you find out the sex.
boyohboyohboy replied: we took the kids, both times..caleb to see jakob and then jakob to see andrew and both times...the appts were to long and the kids got tired of it easily and it was more of a pain then fun. really i think the kids are just as happy to see the pics later. and you can enjoy the sono more if you arent spending the whole time saying "dont touch that, come here!" caleb was 4 and jake was only 22 months old both were not really fun
HuskerMom replied: We took Keith to both. He was really too young to understand though. He was more interested in watching the dr.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Maddie went to all of my appts with me. She was 3. However, if you are just wanting him to go to a sonogram appt, I would wait until you are a little further along...he will get to see more.
lovemy2 replied: I did not take Olivia for that very reason - she went to one later on with me....
My3LilMonkeys replied: We took the girls to our 18wk and 20 wk ones, and they liked it a lot. I never even considered bringing them to the first one - there's just not a lot to see and I didn't really think they'd be interested. My advice is if possible, get someone else to come with you - that way they can go back out into the waiting room if it gets too boring or while you have the rest of your appointment.
stella6979 replied: My mistake. I didn't even notice the title said "first". I would wait until the 20 week when you find out the sex. I think that would be more exciting. By the way...how many sonograms do they usually give? We only get one here.
TrulyBlessed replied: We took the girls to see the sonogram at 18 weeks. Out of all 3 of my pregnancies I have only had one at 8 weeks and that was to verify how far along. I wouldn't want my kids there because they had to do it vaginally and at this stage it only looks like a round peanut.
my2monkeyboys replied: Here we normally get 2, one at about 7-8 weeks to verify how far along/make sure things are going normal and one at about 20 to find out the sex. My mother and possibly DH is going (if he's off work), so there would be someone there to help with him. But, I think you may be right... he may get bored and then one of them would have to deal with him instead of enjoying it, too. I think I'll just skip this one and let him watch the video when we get home. Plus I don't remember for certain whether it's an external or internal sonogram the first time, so that certainly wouldn't be too good!
Thanks for the advice!!!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yep, it's vaginal.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: For my eight week u/s with Allie they just did an external one. For my 8 week with Andrew they did both - first the external and then a vaginal because I had to have a pap smear anyways and then we'd be able to see him a bit better.
Taking him to your 20 week u/s sounds like a good idea - that will probably be pretty neat for him to see. I never even considered bringing Roo when I was pg with Allie, but he was only like 16 months or around there so he probably wouldn't have been interested.
holley79 replied: I've only had extrenal. When I was thinking about TTC I planned on taking Annika to the 20 week one but since I have decided A is going to be an only chid, I don't have to worry about it.
A&A'smommy replied: I took lissa but they thought they might be able to do external but becuase of the position of my uterus they had to to internal... I would wait until your 20 week just for that fact!!
Crystalina replied: I'll be taking mine to as many appts as I can. I want them to be involved as much as possible.
TrulyBlessed replied: My OB/GYN does not allow us to bring children with us to our appointments. This kind of bums me out because my youngest wants to go so bad. I did take her to one appointment, but she wants to come back to hear the heartbeat again.
kimberley replied: personally, i wouldn't because of my losses and it's really hard to tell it's a baby that early. i would wait for 20wk u/s when you can clearly see baby.
TheOaf66 replied: I believe Tanner saw the "bean" and was at the 20 week one. I never had any worries though about things not being ok. He heard the heartbeat at quite a few of them as well. He said there was a horse galloping in my tummy.
ETA: once again Troy forgot to log out of our computer at home, THIS IS JENNIE TYPING!!!! I have to go log out now and log in as myself now.
