cameragirl21 wrote: the book, "A Child Called It"? i read the whole series, four books in all and one book by the author's brother, who experienced similar abuse. i read the books some years back but for some reason i had a dream about them last night and it's still bothering me. it's very disturbing that things like that happen in America or anywhere for that matter. anyone else read it? what did you think?
michmom replied: I haven't read it myself, but I have heard of it.
Calimama replied: Sad book, horrible mom. Some of the stuff she made him do made me shudder.
cameragirl21 replied: i agree, i cried through the whole book, especially the first book. that was known to be one of the worst cases of child abuse in CA history.
Calimama replied: You know every time I clean my bathroom with bleach that book pops into my head. I cant fathom how a mother could do that to her child.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Only the first of the series. I wasn't able to go any further.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I read them, with the exception of the one by his brother. I did not know there was one out, I will be buying that to read now.
As disgusted and appalled as I am and was when reading it by those horrible acts and turning a blind eye of the father, teachers, and nurses - lest we forget that there are numerous cases of horrific abuse that happens more often than we know about.
Jamison'smama replied: I read the first two several years ago. It was horrendous and amazing that he came out of it to do something great with his life.
MotherForever2043 replied: Both books are sad They made me cry
Nina J replied: I've read all of his books, and his brothers book. They're very sad..
Have you read any books by Torey Hayden?
My3LilMonkeys replied: I was too disturbed by the first one.
Old Mom Hubbard replied: I have heard about them but will not read. I get too upset over any abuse as my own child was abused at the hands of a so-called special education teacher and counselor in middle school when he entered the 6th grade. They still have their jobs while years of therapy and son still has anxiety over it, which does not help at all with his Asperger's, severe speech problem, OCD and CAPD. Years of therapy to where he was happy and at level with his age peers and was even learning to speak clearly enough for everyone to understand him and was filled with joy at entering a regular school all was shot to heck in 2001. He is doing okay as long as nobody tries to discuss what happened and even the therapists have said that this is a sign of something extremely bad but cannot help unless he opens up and perhaps one day he will. He is fine as long as nobody tries to get him into a large school campus. He goes to a Learning Center for one-to one and a very small private non-public school specializing in children such as my son (at district expense) that only allows for 7 kids per class and two teachers that are highly trained in autism/asperger's and anxiety issues so KNOW how to properly handle children and how to calm them. After being in attendence here since 2002-2003 he is graduating next year and wants to go to college to take classes to become a myrmecologist and science fiction/fantasy genre writer, and has received a desktop publishing award (so again doing alright considering) but the panic is still there when near a larger school campus. He wants to go to college so bad, but then he gets extremely nervous when taking tours.
Anyway....sorry to ramble but felt need to explain WHY I wil not read such. Abuse such as that has gone on for many, many years. Cases of children that were shipped from England to Australia as they were deemed (delinquents) many many years ago and even now the CYA (Ca Youth Authority) and how they abuse children in the system. Children that get stuck in hospitals for any kind of psychiatric evaluation then illegally given psychotropic medications that in MANY cases are used against the label directions instead of REAL therapy and effective counseling. (Guess as long as abuse is done by doctors and teachers it does not seem to count). Seems they want to do nothing to truly help children in these places except by popping pills in their mouths. I could go on but find myself becoming too upset so shall hope that maybe someday our children will truly be protected better than they have been.
The chidlren are supposed to be our future, and what future are they going to have when there seems to be very little to no protections for them, and certainly very little to none at all PUNISHMENT to those who violate them?
PrairieMom replied: I read the first 3. What an incredible story. The fact that a child could survive that and grow to be a productive member of society is an amazing testament to his strength and will to live.
luvmykids replied: I tried but couldn't
cameragirl21 replied: no, who is Torey Hayden? the name sounds familiar.....
