help - meat question
boyohboyohboy wrote: how do you defrost meat in the microwave? there is a button on there but it requires more then just pushing it.. help! i am supposed to make meat balls and the meat is frozen solid
lovemy2 replied: On mine after you push the button you enter how much the meat weighs like 1.0 for 1 lb or 1.5 for 1 1/2 - I usually just guess the weight - then it automatically sets the time...
grapfruit replied: you crack me up.
My microwave has the "instructions" inside the door (on the frame of the microwave). I usually have to hit defrost x number of times (depends on what you're defrosting) and then the weight like she said.

boyohboyohboy replied: i keep trying to explain i am not a cook by nature!! but if cracking people up gets food on my table each night then so be it!
grapfruit replied: I think you're great! The couple of recent threads that you've been talking about w/herbs and such are (in my mind) huge leaps and bounds for somebody who "doesn't cook". You're tackling a lot rather quickly, but it sounds like you're learning a lot quickly too!
For me, I like to cook (hate doing dishes though ) but sometimes the planning and all that gets to me and I'd rather not. I'm sure that doesn't make sense.
Sorry if I offended you
boyohboyohboy replied: oh no you didnt offend me, i decided when i started this, at my age, i knew i was going to look silly asking the questions i have been , but i have to learn somehow and it would be much more embarrassing to go to a cooking class! so this is the next best thing. and when i do all this cooking my dh has to clean up!
i have learned a lot in just a few days.. and in the past 2 weeks have made several of my own dishes!
and i get excited now about things like...i just got my own recipe box! and index cards!
Kaitlin'smom replied: personaly I would NOT use the microwave to do that, place in bag (if not already) and run under cold water and rotated every few minutes until thawed.
might i ask what your using them for?
boyohboyohboy replied: i am making my own meat balls, and the hamburger is frozen solid..i mean really frozen... i thought i read somewhere you were not supposed to thaw meat in the sink? was that just for turkey maybe? i know i have heard of doing it that way before.. my microwave doesnt have directions on it, and i have hit that defrost button before but gotten no where, so i attempted to half cook it and that was a disaster so today, i am attempting to defrost it..
boyohboyohboy replied: ewww..ok so defrosting is not really my thing....it cooked half the meat, or maybe i should say its half cooked? i think we are eating cereal tonight.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I agree with Di. I wouldn't defrost meat in the microwave. I put meat in a ziplock and let sit in cool water for an hour or so. Don't forget it though. And then refrigerate until ready to use. You can also defrost in the refrigerator over night.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thats why I wont deforst it in the microwave.
as long as once its defrosted you either use it or out it in the fridge its fine.
My2Beauties replied: Same here.
My2Beauties replied: See my microwave thaws it out very evenly and never half cooks it or anything like that. I'm sorry, that stinks
