help to those of you old enough to really remember - the 80s

Hillbilly Housewife wrote: I'm planning on wearing some black pants...they have big flowers on them in white, green, blue, red, yellow and orange.. and an off the shoulder yellow wool top that's kinda baggy on top then above the waist it's ribbed so fitted, and kinda short but not too short to show my belly... i'm planning on wearing big gold hoop earrings, and some junk chunk necklaces and a big chucky blue bacelet...

i need help with how to do my hair and what to wear on my feet. I was planning on black stilettos and just teasing my hair, maybe putting it on a side ponytail?

can anyone give me tips? I can't really find anything useful online...

alernatively, I have tight black jeans (and I mean tiiiight.... ) that I could roll up on the bottom, with white socks, black patin shoes, a blue t-shit with some yellow in the middle, with a red leather jacket... and a white glove, and a jerry curl.. wink.gif can anyone tell me if that rings a bell? wink.gif

luvmykids replied: Lemme think....I was in high school for the last part of the 80's. I remember permed hair, bangs that were curled/teased, big hair with side ponytails or headbands that you couldn't even see, they were just for looks more than serving a purpose laugh.gif . Shirts off one shoulder, sort of flashdance style, big belts around the hips, neon, chunky necklaces, lots of bangles. Flats, I think a lot of girls wore pointy flats.

If it were me, I'd probably wear leggings with a blousy shirt, wide belt, Madonna jewelry laugh.gif and a side ponytail.

I think what you described sounds good except the pants are sounding more 70's to me, but thats having not seen them.

kit_kats_mom replied: Big hair...big hairsprayed bangs.

sounds like fun!!!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I thought about that..i don't have the arse to wear leggings. wink.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Maybe I'll take a pic of the clothes... lol rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied:
Would you be referring to Mr. Jackson? rolling_smile.gif

PrairieMom replied: Definitely the side pony tail with tall mall bangs. Then take pics for us. rolling_smile.gif

moped replied:
really big hair! bar hair!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Yup. Beat it.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: And here's the other pic.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: and the hair and makeup....oh the horror.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: So what do I wear?? blink.gif emlaugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Or, I'm going to straighten my heair and just tease the crapppp out of it

Danalana replied: Here's what you do with your hair. Straighten it, and then tease it. Make huge bangs and then make the sides come out a little. I don't remember how I did it, but I used a can of hairspray every couple of days or something laugh.gif My mother used to call it my "wings", where I had it angled out on the sides. I'll see if I can find a picture somewhere.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: i don't have bangs tho... unsure.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: dh wants help too

Hillbilly Housewife replied: or with the jacket

Danalana replied: In the case of no bangs, the pic you took of yours looks great!
Your DH needs to wear overalls with one of the straps unbuckled smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
He was going for the ne'er-do-well from the breakfast club.. lol

Calimama replied:
I don't really think he looks all that 80's-ish. If I saw him at a party I'd just think he needed more fashionable clothes. happy.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
lol

yeah I'm trying to convince him he needs to wear his white pimped out pinstripe suit.. lol

TheOaf66 replied: for you I would go with the 2nd outfit (not the flowers)

Tell DH to wear black or acid jeans (with a knee ripped out) and roll at the bottom with a comb in the back pocket and high tops with a muscle shirt. Spike hair or mullet style. If he can't do the muscle shirt if he has a t-shirt with a band on it like Metallica or something would work with the denim jacket.

U have to shoot those bangs to the moon

Hillbilly Housewife replied: there's his pimp suit... lol

Hillbilly Housewife replied: don't mind the mess and the boxes... we ARE moving in like 2 weeks... lol

mckayleesmom replied: You should crimp your hair....remember those hair crimpers? They still sell them at walmart I think.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I think I can crimp it. I'll straighten it while the kids are sleeping..and try to crimp it.

grapfruit replied: Ok, I'm retarded....I take it you're going to a 80's NYE party? LoL! laugh.gif

How about leggings under a mini skirt w/leg warmers and flats? W/a HUGE baggy sweatshirt w/the neck cut out of it? Big earrings and bigger hair w/a colored pony tail holder thing.

Calimama replied:
That's what I see when I pictures 80's stuff!! thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Hmm. Let me see if I can work something out then. wacko.gif

grapfruit replied:
Whatever you pick, we want LOTS of pictures tongue.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Like totally!!! thumb.gif rolling_smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: What about this?

luvmykids replied: That's about right! rolling_smile.gif With the side ponytail, some bangles and a chunky bead necklace. Do you have a wide belt you can put around your hips?

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Like, Oh My God, gag me with a spoon! That's like, totally like, neat!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Like totally. Gag me with a spoon. Don't forget the big hoop earrings. And with that, I'd go with a side pony.

Calimama replied:
Yeah! Do you have a big belt!? Like a hot pink or lime green, or obnoxious yellow? emlaugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: like this?

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I think I might have a pretty big brown one... no funky colors. sad.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
That's it!!! God I feel old now.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: so i should straighten it and fluff it?

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: No, either leave it curly or crimp it.

Calimama replied:
The fact that you don't probably says you have a good sense of style. emlaugh.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
Hair dryer and a can of hairspray. I used to do the wings too along with the really big bangs. Baisically you blow dry the side of your hair up and then use the hairspray. Thinking back to it I have to laugh because what the heck was a idoing with my hair?

Hillbilly Housewife replied: and should the belt be tight? or loose?

Hillbilly Housewife replied: loose

TheOaf66 replied: if you want a really good example...go out and rent the movie Valley Girl

Think bright colors, stockings over heels, headbands (bold colors!), skinny pants were kind of in back then, too. Think 80's MTV style lol. Try google? Oh. And bright pink lipgloss was kind of big amongst girls at the time. Try Also googling a picture of Madonna from the 80's and derive some of your inspiration from that?

TheOaf66 replied:
tight

Calimama replied:
Looks better tight!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: OMG, who remembers Z Cavaricci's. Pleated front pants, high waist, white label vertical on the zipper flap. Way cool!

luvmykids replied:
I had a pair in every color rolling_smile.gif

I think the loose belt was more 80's, think Madonna or Flash Dance.

Leave your hair curly, perms were big (no pun intended laugh.gif )

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I had them in forest green and black. Can you imagine wearing all those pleats now Monica? Talk about adding unnecessary bulk.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Ar ethose like the mc hammer pants? I had a few of those. blush.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: ok hair

Hillbilly Housewife replied: or is this better

PrairieMom replied: the first one is better. You look awesome. thumb.gif

Crystalina replied: I was an 80's child! biggrin.gif

Your DH can wear a rock band shirt if he has one and acid or bleached jeans.

With you, I like the one where your hair is down and you have the little side pony. Add Scruncis!!!!! Bold colored ones. Get jelly bracelets!!! And if you wear the heels (aww heck, even if you don't) peg your pants! There was no circulation in our feet in the 80's! rolling_smile.gif

...and layers, layers, layers!

DH can also do the raised color think like Tubbs did in Miami Vice. emlaugh.gif

And with your heels...white ankle socks. cool.gif

Crystalina replied: And if you can get your hands on a Swatch...your complete. cool.gif

Crystalina replied: wait a minute...why? unsure.gif emlaugh.gif

Did I miss a post as to why you were doing this? blush.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Dontcha? Dontcha?

Crystalina replied: OMG, it hurts me to even look at that. How can you do that? rolling_smile.gif I would break something or surely be in traction.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Shoulda seen me the other day. I was dancing along to flashdance trying to get in the spirit of things... but there was no way I was going to wear *that*. emlaugh.gif

They MUST think I'm crazy. emlaugh.gif

TheOaf66 replied:

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: You look ready to me! I like the cut on top sweatshirt (blue) with leggings and LOOSE belt best. Side ponytail, or half up with the scrunchy. You MUST leave your hair curly though. Who didn't have a spiral perm back then?!

Calimama replied:
