ideas.....anyone got some

Kaitlin'smom wrote: okay most of you know how my sitter son is sick and thay have TONS of medical bills and no money to pay for them, well she signed up for Toys for Tots (she did not like doing it but thought they would help give the kids something in addition to an xbox 360 donated to them) well she picked it up today and OMG you guys while it was nice to get something its all well crap, nothing age approitae for either kid. It was really sad, somethings were all battered up and some were deffinalty bought at a $1 (you can see it will fall appart once its open) I feel awful for them. So what I was thinking of picking somethings up nothing to expensive maybe spend like 40-50 total for the kids and them, but here where I dont know how to get it to them with out her knowing its from me. I dont want to ship it, would probably cost more then what I buy. Anyone have any ideas?

Celestrina replied: If you have an idea when she won't be home, go over and put it in front of their door.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
thought about that but I dont live close to them, and I am not sure when she is not home in the morning while I am at work

boyohboyohboy replied: i thought toys for tots was supposed to be new toys..
they just had a drive at the toys r us here and it was toys that people actually bought there.
maybe its the salvation army that does used and new toys?
hmmm. thats so sad. i think if i were you i would talk to someone there on their behalf..
is there a church in their area that might be willing to help.?
i bet if you called them they would

Kaitlin'smom replied: they are new but they look like they have been droped more than once and kicked around.

Celestrina replied: Do you know anyone they haven't met that might be willing to pose as a delivery person and drop it off?

MommyToAshley replied: I thought Toys For Tots was supposed to be new toys, and I thought they were picky about what they accepted. We usually donate to them, good quality stuff.

That was one reservation we had about donating the Xbox 360... we were afraid that they wouldn't be able to get games for it and that would be worse than not having the game system. sad.gif Maybe Microsoft would be willing to donate some games?

I wish that Tristin was a girl, Ashley still has some new, unopened stuff that I would be happy to donate. But, I doubt he would like anything pink.

As for how to get it to them, I was going to suggest that you drop it off in the middle of the night, but unfortunately, I would be afraid someone would steal it. sad.gif

Calimama replied:
Same here, I find that really odd. huh.gif

Anyway maybe you could get her a gift card? Easy to mail and then she could pick out toys for the kids herself? Good luck, it's really sweet of you to make such an effort. hug.gif

danahas4monkeys replied: toys r us has free shipping on orders over $49 , and walmart.com has 97 cent shipping on some stuff you can send it anonymously! or should be able to anyway!

bawoodsmall replied: How far away do you live? Is it something you can do like at night or when you know they are gone?

Mommy2Isabella replied: I don't really have any ideas ... just think it is really sweet of you to do everything that you are doing for their family!

Kaitlin'smom replied: she did get Tristin one game for the xbox 360 and we help her with the Guitar Hero II for her daughter but thats all they will have sad.gif She is happy and VERY appriciative about the xbox just wanted a little something else for them.

I might be able to ask someone I know to drop it off for me

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I would suggest a gift card from Walmart. This way she can buy what she wants and you're not paying a lot for shipping. Just go drop it in their mailbox or sit it in an envelope on their doorstep. Just say "from santa" or something.

This is really special of you Di! Good job!

lovemy2 replied: I agree - mail a gift card to Walmart or something - they won't know that way - you don't spend alot on shipping and they can pick out what they think their kids would like...

CantWait replied: What about a toys r us gift card? Then they could pick what they wanted.

MommyToAshley replied:
Ahh, thumb.gif that's good to know, they'll really enjoy those games.

A gift card is a good idea, it will let her still be able to go and pick out some things herself. That's part of the fun of Christmas is picking out the gifts. And, it is cheap to ship or you could just slip it under the door.

luvmykids replied: We have a company here called Hot Shot, they're a messenger/delivery service and pretty inexpensive...you just call them, pay them with a credit card over the phone, they come pick up and deliver whatever it is, from a letter to packages.

I like the gift card idea though too, I agree that shopping for your kids is part of the fun happy.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I think I am going to do some type of letter and put a gift card in it. Something like you have been hit by the christmas elf, not sure what all it will say but I will come up with something. Suggestions for this woudl be great. then I can just mail it or leave it in the mail box when the mail is there or something. It woudl be easier than getting gifts to them.

thanks everyone

this will be my big pay it foward biggrin.gif
