i'm having a hard time with my left boob.... lol
Hillbilly Housewife wrote: she just won't take it!! she'll go for the right one with force, but whenever it;s the left one, she only takes in the tip of my nipple, and will NOT suck. She abnsolutely refuses to!! IF, per chance, she does suck, it's tiny pathetic little sucks that hardly qualify.....and there's no swallowinmg going on.... but if i squeeze my nip. there's milk. ?
What's wrong?!
amynicole21 replied: Hmmmmm.... that's odd! Have you tried a different hold on that side? Maybe she has an aversion to eating while on her right side?? Maybe try a football hold on that side, so that she is laying on her left side... other than that, I am baffled
kit_kats_mom replied: or maybe you have really overactive letdown on that side? Maybe try pumping that side before you nurse her on it. Perhaps she was almost drowned on that side once and is a little gun shy. I dunno. Just a guess. I'd check out www.kellymom.com.
A&A'smommy replied: ugh alyssa did that too only with the other boob she would not suck my right boob...good luck and i hope you get things figured out soon!
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley was the opposite... she wouldn't hardley nurse on the right side. She eventually outgrew it... I just kept offering it to her. I think it may have actually had a slower letdown... Ashley was never very patient.
coasterqueen replied: I've heard many babies doing this before and some mothers can get the baby to go back to that side and some have to end up soley nursing on one side, but it can be done
My guess would be overactive letdown too Or something to do with letdown, maybe the letdown is much slower on that side and she gets frustrated because she has to work harder for it. I know Kylie prefers my right side to the left for some reason.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: thanks....it's just a pita, since my boob gets really sore... lol I'd pump, but my pump hardly works... i'm waiting for a new piece for it.
jem0622 replied: HUGS. If it were me I'd offer the full side (the one she ignores) first and keep doing that all of the time. Maybe express a little so that there is milk on the nipple and maybe it will get her going.
You can nurse only on one side. It's been done.
HUGS Julie
CantWait replied: LOL I remember posting about the same thing. Anthony absolutely refused to take my left, but had no problem with the right. Good Luck
MomToMany replied: Maybe she doesn't like laying the other way? Try laying her the same way you do for the right side, at least until she gets used to the left side.
I'd check on kellymom.com for more info/ideas, though.
Good luck, and I hope Emilie starts enjying the left side more!
ediep replied: well, I only BF jason for a few weeks, but he did the same thing. I ended up having to use the cradle hold for the right and the football hold for the left. Good luck!
DansMom replied: Yeah, my sister and I joke about the phenomenon of good boob, bad boob. A lot of babies prefer one over the other. Daniel outgrew this, except when he's congested now he shows a preference based on which side he's more congested on---he can breathe better in one position than the other. I've noticed with pumping that I always get more out of the left side---sometimes twice as much!
I agree with the method of offering bad boob first---it worked for my sister and for me over time.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I had the same trouble with Claudia she prefered to nurse on the right side (which produced more milk) and didn't care much for the left. She did eventually outgrow this and now nurses like a champ on both sides. I agree it could be a flow problem. I hope you get the part to your pump soon!
