irritation in her privates? - yeast?
amynicole21 wrote: Sophia complains every once in a while that her privates hurt. When I look they are bright red and chaffing a bit. She says that it's "boogery" but it's mostly just peeling skin. She doesn't seem to have it consistently, once or twice a week or so. I have two thoughts... first, it's summer and it's hot - yeast thrives in this weather. But I don't see discharge or anything. Has anyone had a little girl with a yeast infection? I don't get them, so I don't really know what to look for specifically.
My second thought is that she has started showering lately instead of taking baths. Perhaps she doesn't rinse well enough? I've been working with her on that one.
We've put hydrocortisone on it a few times and she says it feels better. She says it itches or hurts, and sometimes hurts when she pees. Any ideas?
lisar replied: Kids can get a yeast infection. Lexi has had multiple UTI's though and it will hurt.
luvmykids replied: I'm not sure, but lately Macie has had the same sort of thing. I was going to look for some different soap and see if that helps.
momofone replied: you can try put yogurt into her diet i hear it helps combat yeast infections. idk worth a try
ZandersMama replied: i remember when i was about 5 years old getting a yeast infection, it sucked poor thing i hope it clears up soon.
mummy2girls replied: Jenna is very prone to getting them. She will say it hurts and itchy. I look and its red and chapped looking. So i usually get presribed for her nystatin cream for it. She gets them so often that i can refill the prescription as much as needed. What usually triggers them for her is bubble baths so i try to avoid them as much as i can. Or if she doesnt wipe herself after peeing at school. at home at least im there to make sure but now that she is in school full days its harder and i find she is getting them more:(
msoulz replied: Erin just had a yeast infection. She was at preschool and she would scream when she had to pee so they thought she had developed a UTI, but it turned out to be yeast. The doc prescribed the nystatin and after just one application she was able to pee without screaming (doc said it will coat the area too). We used it for 10 days and she has been fine since.
PrairieMom replied: you could try probiotics too. My Ped suggested Culturelle, its a certain brand. It comes in a pill, or you can open the capsule and just lick the powder inside ,which actually tastes lie coffee creamer. I had to order that brand on line, but my local health food store has all different brands.
jcc64 replied: Short term you've got to cure it, obviously. Long term, I'd look at dietary changes- lots of stuff with acidophillous (sp?) like yogurt. You can take acidophillous supplements too, maybe it comes as a powder or something? I'd check the health food store or any holistically minded doctor. Not sure I'd keep going with the hydrocortisone cream w/o a dr's thumb's up. Good luck!
mom21kid2dogs replied: We use Vagisil. It always clears within 2-3 applications. Additionally, I encourage O to wipe with two sets of toilet paper. One bunch to wipe urine and the other bunch for her bum. Also remind to wipe front to back. We went from frequent to rare with this. It was the ped who told us to use Vagisil.
kit_kats_mom replied: It could also just be vigorous (sp) wiping and rubbing when washing. Is she using a washcloth? That was the concensus of our doc when K had that.
mckayleesmom replied: It also might be like you said..not rinsing properly in the shower.
I always make Mckaylee bend over and touch her toes....
