is your christmas shopping done

boyohboyohboy wrote: Is your christmas shopping done?
and did the current financial stresses cause you to down scale this year?

Mine is done, however we did down scale a lot. I honestly dont know what else I would have gotten for the kids though even if we did have an endless supply of money. It seems like toys get more and more expensive and are cheaper then ever in product..most of the toys break.
we also didnt do anything for anyone other then the kids and one charity.

DillsMommy replied: Done!? I haven't even started yet. blush.gif We usually wait until it gets closer to Christmas anyways. I'm sure we will definitely scale down this year--money is just too tight for us right now. I have no idea what to get them either. I so wish they would just be happy with clothes, because we really really do not need anymore toys.... rolleyes.gif

CantWait replied: About 1/3 of the way through. I haven't done anything here yet, everything was while I was waiting to get here in Toronto, so I guess I'm slacking a bit. unsure.gif

MoonMama replied: I have 4 gifts so far. 2 for Brae, 1 for my sister, and 1 for Nana. I have a long way to go still. wacko.gif

ETA: However I pretty much know what I am getting for everyone, so that helps. thumb.gif

Calimama replied: HA!!! I'm on the Christmas shopping slacker list.

I've bought Miabella like 8 things and no one else anything yet. We're not really scaling down. Although we don't have to buy my inlaws gifts this year because they went crazy.. so I guess in that aspect we did.

CantWait replied: Forgot to add,

As for scaling down, I'm not really sure, but I am being more wise about what I get the boys. I want to make sure it's things they are going to use, and this year they're only getting three gifts each plus their stocking.

We might also give them one gift on January 17 (??????), it's the orthadox Christmas here.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I've only gotten the kids one new outfit each, a book, and a board game or some other game we can play together. other family members are just getting baskets of stuff they can use.. movie themes, breakfast theme... that sort of thing. everyone has too much junk anyways. Other people we have to buy for are getting baked goods. it's not really scaling down, we've been doing that these last few years.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: We only bought for alex and his two cousins this year. The rest of our family will get home made gifts-cookies, fudge, candy.

Swood75 replied: No,I haven't started yet..I am planning on doing ALL my shopping at once on Dec 10th..My mom on the other hand has had hers finished for about a month I think..LOL

BAC'sMom replied: Nope, I haven't started yet sleep.gif

moped replied: Almost done, just 2 more I think, but I have to do a quick inventory......still haven't decided on Tom - his camera broke this week so maybe that as well. I havne't scaled down much because I found this job so quickly, otherwise I would have BIG TIME!!!!!!

Shopping is my hobby and favorite past time so I start early and love every second!

3xsthefun replied: Ha..Ha!! No! We never get Christmas shopping started this early.

jcc64 replied: I haven't even put any thought into it yet. Probably won't until about the week before.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I have a few things, but its going to be slow and way scaled back. I am doing creative shopping. Doing what ever I can to get more things for less.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Down scaling? You betcha...A LOT. I don't even think Troy and I are getting each other anything this year, just to save money. If we do, it will be something that we actually really 'need'. Shopping? I have one present for each of the boys, and that's it. laugh.gif I have to go to Michaels this weekend because they always have an awesome $1 gift section that I use for stocking stuffers. Next is the toyland at Farm and Fleet, then Black Friday shopping.

lisar replied: I havent even started yet. I got the DVD player for Lexi and the doll house for Raygen but thats it so far. I am doing ALL of my shopping next friday. And as for down scaling yes I am. I would spend anywhere from $500.00 to a grand on each of the girls. But this year it has been cut down to about $200.00 a kid. I have told Lexi not to expect anything like another 4-wheeler this year. That was a good year smile.gif But not this year. I always got them big items thats why they got so much and I would always get a HUGE christmas bonus at work. But they cut out our christmas bonus this year we arent getting them

PrairieMom replied: I'm pretty much done with Al's she is getting a doll house, 2 rooms of furniture, and a bathrobe and slippers. "Ben " still needs to get her something.
For Ben I have been window shopping a bit, I have no idea what to get him for his big gift, but I also got him a bathrobe and slippers. "Al" still needs to get him something tho.
We aren't really down scaling, because we don't normally go nuts for Christmas. They get one gift from me, one from DH and one from each other and that is it. # gifts a piece, and of corse santa will spend about $20 a piece on them. I don't think DH and I will be getting each other anything either. We really don't need anything and I hate to spend $ just because.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Gosh NO, not at all done. I started today. Both DH and I aren't working, so you can imagine how much we have to cut back. Christmas has never been a big splurge for us though. Our families typically buy for just the kids. And we don't go over board for our own kids, just what they need and maybe one or two things they ask for. I have been thrift store shopping and find really great toys and books. Just wash and they are like new to the kids - never would tell the difference. And I like the idea that I'm recycling.

HuskerMom replied: I haven't started yet, I wish I was already done. I really like shopping but it's so stressful buying for some people sometimes. We're not scaling back because we never go crazy spending on Christmas shopping anyway. Dh and I have been saving for a newer car for a while so that might be our gift to each other.
