luvbug00 wrote: What is the typical lactation time after birth?? and how long can it last??
I'll ask a more in depth Question depending on replies. thanks:)
luvbug00 replied: k i keep looking up prolonged lactation and the words i am seeing are not too comforting..
Infertility?? for example
Natural birth control?? omg!
the only good thing is the preventing of cancer..
is this true??
moped replied: Not sure what you mean, but lactating starts anytime shortly after birth and I am not sure how long it lasts - after I quit it was a loooong time before it stopped - like a couple of months
A&A'smommy replied: I'm really confused, what exactly are you asking?? Are you having problems with something??
luvbug00 replied: Well, i didn't BF Mya. 7 years later, i still lactate a little all the time.
I kinda was trying to avoid sharring but after reading this stuff. i have to admit i'm a little scared if it's true.
moped replied: I have never really heard of that before.
Does it happen monthly?
luvbug00 replied: it's constant. some days just a drop and others like closer to my period it's like 1/4 teaspoon ( even less). but it's been there since she was born.
A&A'smommy replied: hmmm yeah that would scare me too! Nothing to be embarrassed about.... I have never heard of that before so I really wouldn't know, just make sure to mention it to your doctor!!!!
gr33n3y3z replied: After I BF my kids I had milk for about 9 months maybe even a year But I would talk to the Dr about that
Bamamom replied: Don't be embarrassed - I kept a little milk between kids. Mention it to your dr. just so you'll know what's going on.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: My little sister had a pituitary prolactinoma. A tumor that produced the hormone that makes you lactate. She was lactating w/out ever having had a child. I'm not saying that's what this is, but I'd definatly get your doctor to do some blood work. A little stick in arm is a small price to pay for knowledge of whether a problem exists or not. Nadia, mention this to your doc. I'm serious.
alice&arik replied: That happened to me about a year and a half ago. I went to the doctor and they acted like I was crazy. I would wake up with the right side of my shirt soaked. I also gained weight like crazy - sometimes 5 pounds over night. They told me to avoid nipple stimulation- like I go home and play with them all day. They said it was probably a glitch in my hormones. They said birth control would straighten them out. Which it did. But didn't help the weight, didn't gain more and didn't lose any either.
I think I saw 3 different Dr.s about it. They did all the tests and couldn't find any reason for it.
PrairieMom replied: I have a friend that has this problem. I'm not really sure what is causing it, I think she said it was a pituitary issue too. I think she said it was connected to some fertility issues she was supposed to be having. which she wasn't, because she actually had a "surprise" baby. I would mention it.
Jamison'smama replied: I have a friend who still lactates about as much as you and her son is 4. She is now pregnant so she didn't have fertility issues as a result.
luvbug00 replied: Thanks ladies. Kelly i plan on mentioning it for sure! I just was thinking about how many time i've done the deed and all the potential for alot of the deeds to be babies and they were not. I REALLY want more kids so this is crucial for me to find out the malfuntion within'
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I can express a very small amount of milk also...Taylor is 6 I actually started after my first MC almost 10 years ago. I have had tests run and my prolactin levels are slightly elevated but nothing has ever been worrisome to the doctor. If you have any questions you can PM me I did have infertility issues but don't know if that contributed to them
