leather furniture and kids
sparkys2boys wrote: Ok, Im in a pickle here. We are going to finally go shopping for new livingroom furniture and I want to know if leather is good or not? I think it would be great because you can wipe it up but DH is worried about holes in it. This is in the main area that we spend most of our time, but the kids DO NOT play on the furniture. So, what do you all think??
Calimama replied: I love it! It cleans up if there's a spill so easily. We use leather cleaner once every 2 weeks to keep it clean and resistant. We probably will never go back to fabric couches and stuff.
holley79 replied: I love it because if Annika spills something on it then it just wipes right up. It also stood up to a 100 pound black lab and med size dog so it's pretty resilent.
C&K*s Mommie replied: to the above. I think it is a good idea.
luvmykids replied: I love it, between the dogs and kids it's held up really well. The only issus is like your DH said, punctures, but we have had zero in that department. The only suggestion I have is to go with a medium or darker color, I have the light camel type of brown and it's extremely hard to keep clean as far as daily dirt goes. Plus a few times we have had accidents with pens (my fault) but they are glaring. I wish I'd gone a little darker for the benefit of better hiding the "It will never happen to me" accidents
Boo&BugsMom replied: We have leather and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have trained all my daycare kids to not "play" on the furniture. I do not even allow most toys on the furniture except for soft toys like books and stuffed animals. If you set the right boundaries and rules, you can't go wrong with leather. We have had ours for about 5 years now and I still love our furniture. If my home daycare can survive it, a regular household can survive it!
paradisemommy replied: i had previously and absolutely loved it though my biggest complaint is sticking to it when you and the weather is hot which is all the time here unless you have central a/c but we don't and i doubt you have to worry about hot weather year around so GO FOR IT!!
Brias3 replied: If your kids stay off the furniture in terms of playing on it, then yes, I like it. It cleans well and the upkeep is easy, if you're consistent.
We have leather furniture in two rooms of the house and the only real complaint I have to it is that its SO un-cozy
redplaydoh replied: If we had fabric furniture it would be trashed by now. I love that stuff wipes right off of the leather.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: The only thing leather in my house is an ottoman. Wil plays on it all the time and I just wipe it down, super easy. My car's interior is also leather, which when buying it, I was hesitant thinking it would be hard to clean with kids. Now I know it's the opposite. I see my friend's cars with fabric upholstry and Ewwwwww. Go with leather, especially if your kids don't get on the furniture anyway!
sparkys2boys replied: Ok. we are going with the leather for sure now!!! Thanks for the input!!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: We have leather furniture and it is much easier to maintain. Because DH and Claudia are allergic to cats we don't have to worry about the cat hair as much.
