making car rides more exciting?

mummy2girls wrote: Now that jenna is forward facing in the car...she is so unbearable at times. She will cry and scream alot. drives me wacko. What things could i put in the car to make her happy any ideas?

DansMom replied: If she likes certain shows like Sesame Street, you can play tapes or music from that---it works with some kids but not all. I sing songs to Daniel (e.g. The Wheels on the Bus, Old McDonald, because he will wait for the sound effects) when he's fussy in the car and it usually works for 5-10 minutes at least! DH likes to talk about the things outside the car---point out trucks and bicycles and such---to keep his interest.

~CrazieMama~ replied: I agree with DansMom. We sing to Brianna...her fav is "Wheels on the Bus". Pointing out trucks will entertain too. But you have to do it before they get too fussy. Singing works wonders. rolling_smile.gif

jen replied: If you can afford it get a DVD player to put in your car, that really works great for my friend's baby! I am going to save and invest in one for sure!

ediep replied: If Jay gets fussy in the car we sing or play tapes of the songs from our music together class. Jason likes that. I also have a little unbreakable elmo mirror pinned on the back of the headrest, so he has that to look at.

chloe&tysmommy replied: we keep a few little toys for Chloe in the vehicle and she loves to play with them while I'm driving (keep them in the car so they are 'newer' toys for her kwim?)

Chloe also loves to read books so we have a few in there and I bought her a smaller disney book with the buttons on the side that plays music smile.gif She loves that one!

CantWait replied: Singing sometimes works with Anthony also. You could try those toys that attach to the back of the front passenger seat. That might help. Otherwise I don't know dunno.gif Good Luck.

A&A'smommy replied:
yeah thats a great idea or you can get her a vcr player my sil got one of those for christmas a couple of years ago they are cheaper....and its WONDERFUL when you have to go on car rides with them!!!!!

aspenblue1 replied: I usually take Isabella's carebear with us. She wont go anywhere with out it and it keeps her happy.

coasterqueen replied: We use our DVD player in our van to calm her down. Kylie will scream the entire ride anywhere whether it be 1/2 mile to sitter or longer trip so the DVD player calms her down a bit. Course now she expects it EVERYTIME she gets in the van and she will not fall asleep in the van with the thing on, as soon as we turn it off after she's watched it a bit she'll fall asleep in seconds rolleyes.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I had to figure this very thing out for our aftenoon drives home...Kaitlin will some days sream these high pitch screams out and it sure makes for unplesent driving! So a few things i have done is keep water and a sippy cup in the car or her bag, so she has something to drink, toys to play with and snacks for her to much on. DH wants to get a new family car with a DVD player in it for her.....I am not so sue about that just yet.

Daddy of Schnoogly replied: This is a tough one. Iain is a lot better behaved when someone is in the backseat with him, but obviously that's not always an option. What DW does now is keep a pile of toys on the seat next to her, and when he fusses, she passes one back. Sometimes, she reaches behind her and feeds him a bottle with one hand while driving with the other. blink.gif

It's a good thing we have an automatic.
