maternity clothes - where do we shop?
PrairieMom wrote: I am starting to think about maternity clothes. I don't think that I will need any until closer to Christmas time, but it never hurts to start looking. Where can I find cute affordable maternity clothes?
Boys r us replied: If you're looking for value, I'd say Target! They had really cute maternity clothes when I was pg with Brae. I got most of mine at Gap Maternity and motherhood and also Mimi maternity. Mimi had my favorite stuff, but they are pretty pricey, but had the most fashionable clothes, which was important to me since I felt like a blob!
PrairieMom replied: I nevr thought of Target! well, i will have to go out today and see if ours has a maternity section!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I liked most of Old Navy's maternity stuff. Target didn't have much of a selection while I was pg but they might have cuter stuff now. I also got some things from Motherhood. Most of their stuff is a little more expensive than Target but if you look you can find some cute things for not too spendy.
mckayleesmom replied: MOtherhood, Target, Walmart and my mom...lol
PrairieMom replied: Can someone remind me, about sizes? I wear a size 8 normally, so do i get size 8 maternity pants?
C&K*s Mommie replied: not sure... about the sizes... but Motherhood has preggo bellies that you can put on and then try on clothes. That is the best option, since who knows how big/not so big you may end up.
holley79 replied: If your Target is like ours, the maternity section isn't the greatest. Wal Mart is right there with it. The best place that I have found is Burlington Coat Factory. I got nice jeans for 16.00, nice tops for around 10. They also had nursing tops and night shirts really inexpensive. Motherhood was too much. JMO Old Navy wasn't too bad either.
MyLuvBugs replied: JC Penney has some really nice comfy clothes, and I've noticed that WalMart is actually starting to sell some materity wear. Most of mine came from Target (b/c my mom works there) or a store call Motherhood. If you have a Motherhood store, go to the sale racks. I got a REALLY cute denim maternity dress that had embroidery on it for only $5.00.
MyLuvBugs replied: HA! I read in a pregnancy book that you should buy the same size materity clothes that you normally wear. HOWEVER, I went from a size 10 to 18 during my Pregnancy, so that rule of thumb didn't work for me. I'd say buy clothes in the next size up, only b/c you don't want the pants to be so tight around your belly, hips and thighs that you're uncomfortable.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I think it depends...since you already have one, do you remember if you get a little more hippy or expand in the butt? I do. They say to get your normal size, but I would say an 8 is between a small and a medium, so you may want to go with the medium to be on the safe side. Better to be a bit lose than too tight.
This is where I shop: Old Navy Gap (online) Target Mimi Pea in a Pod ($$) Motherhood
KingMom replied: I borrowed a friends pregnancy wardrobe and bought from the following...
Old Navy Gap (online) Target Mimi/Motherhood (they are the same store here)
I always had to buy bigger sized than what I wore before.
Good luck!
PrairieMom replied: I got HUGE last time. i outgrew my largest stuff. Unfortunately it is all packed away in the attic, and I am to lazy to get it all down right now. I was just running out this morning to look around and didn't remember how it went.
BTW, our target doen't carry materninty, and neither does our old navy! our gap has 2 racks in the back! So it looks like I will be shopping on line! I don't even remember what I have from last time, so I think I may have to inspire Dh to dig that all out for me!
mckayleesmom replied: I use to work at Motherhood....Their sizes are wierd because most of them are xsmall, small, med, large...etc.....We always reccomended trying something on with the little belly in the fitting room. The belly is suppose to be approximately what you would be in 3 months....Its not completely accurate, but it helps...Every pregnancy is different though...With my first daughter I wore my own jeans till I was 7 months and with my son I was a grade A cow.
Also...Motherhood also carries pant expansions now...they are a little piece of fabric with buttons...they hook onto your regular pants and give you some extra time in them..These are really nice if you are starting to outgrow your own pants, but not really showing yet...kwim? I think you can just lay them in your pants...but alot of woman sew them in.
~KARA~ replied: I got my pants at old navy. I actually have 2 practically brand new pairs I need to put on ebay. the one pair I took the tags off and washed but never worn.
TeagansMom609 replied: I buy everything at Old Navy. I HATE the clothes that Target carries. They run really big, and arent the most fashionable clothes. IMO atleast. I dont like Motherhood either. Again, not the hottest selection. I like Mimi Maternity's stuff but no matter how much extra cash I have I refuse to buy a pair of $80 jeans that I can only wear for a couple months. I wont buy $80 jeans even if im not pregnant! Anyway, it all depends on your taste, if you like fitting clothes that will show off your belly, or if you like a baggier look, and how much you feel like spending.
coasterqueen replied: Well, I'll be the thrifty one here. Besides Target (which never had much), and the sales at Motherhood I shopped consignment for the majority of mine w/both pg's. Oh and if I saw something on sale at JCPenny's I'd go there too. But the majority of my finds were consignment.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Another thrifty one here. I couldn't afford to buy new maternity clothes, especially since the seasons were opposite with both pgs so I needed different clothes. I got a lot a Target, a few at Walmart (who has a HORRIBLE selection, BTW) and the rest from secondhand or consignment shops.
C&K*s Mommie replied: One more thing to think about, prairiemom. With this PG you may desire to have your clothes fit you beneath the belly or above. If you can, wait to buy your clothes as needed, in case they are not what you need anyways. ((My first all I wanted was to have pants cover my belly, the second time around-- you could not pay me to have anything fit above the waist!))
MM'sMama replied: Target Old Navy Fashion Bug (but only with Caroline they didn't have maternity clothes when I had Bricee) Motherhood Kohl's
Boys r us replied: I'm really suprised about Target, Target here has REALLY fashionable maternity clothes and super cute!
coasterqueen replied: They do have cute clothes and ok priced BUT their selection is always small and everyone thinks to go there so then there's not much left, kwim?
KingMom replied: Oh, I shopped at Kohls also! Not a huge selection, but not many do.
huggybugboy replied: http://www.oldnavy.com
we have no maternity shops here (besides the rack at kmart, yuck!) so I bought all my clothes here. You can get shirts on clearance there for under $10!!! Most of the clothes I bought there fit fine and if they dont they return maternity clothes for no shipping. Check it out!
