measuring large...what does it really mean??
Jamison'smama wrote: I had a doctor's appointment today--I am almost 30 weeks but measuring 34 weeks. We aren't off on the due dates---just a big baby I guess. What does that really mean? She said if I am bigger next visit (3 weeks) she'll do another ultrasound...what does measuring big really mean? Is it dangerous? Is it something I can control...it's not a weight issue--I haven't gained any lately. Doctor doesn't seem concerned.
Did any of you measure larger? Does that mean a big baby?
Jamison was right on target and weighed 7.3 at 9 days over-due.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley measured a little big too, but I don't think my EDD was exact. I was induced because they thought I was past my due date. But, when she was born, they said she didn't look like an over-due baby but one that was born right on time. So, maybe I was measuring larger than they thought? Ashley was almost 9lbs.
MomToMany replied: It could mean a number of things. Extra fluid, bigger baby, or just a big uterus. It could be nothing. The u/s should be able to determine what's causing it.
mama3x replied: It just means you're measuring bigger than the average for the week you're in. Probably a bigger baby but ask your OB if you're really concerned.
Are you sure you're correct on your calculations?
Tamatha replied: Could it also mean multiple babies? I was reading up on pregnancy symptoms, and I read that somewhere, I thought... maybe in iVillage??
Hope that everything comes out perfect for you!!

Jamison'smama replied: yikes, not in this case thank goodness--I've had 3 ultrasounds now and we would have seen a second baby--I think I would be even larger also. I'm sure it is nothing to worry about--just wondered if it meant I was going to have a large baby (DH was 10 lb. and I know that's a possibility) or if it meant I was doing something I needed to stop..too much sugar etc.
I was just wondering if anyone else measured bigger and had a typical or large baby at birth.
Thanks for all the responses!
chloe&tysmommy replied: I agree with MomToMany, it could be that the baby will be a bit bigger or maybe you have extra fluid....or they calculated your due date wrong???
When I was expecting my baby boy the doctor said from the u/s the baby was measuring bigger and I had extra fluid (I was huge!)
I'm sorry I forget, do you know what your having? They say sometimes when your expecting a boy you are bigger b/c boys are usually bigger than girls It was true for me
Jamison'smama replied: Boy---quite possibly a big boy
chloe&tysmommy replied:
awwww your having a little boy-how sweet So yes! Maybe that's why you are bigger
A&A'smommy replied: I was told the same thing just meant that she was a little bigger than the would expect you to be at that time, its not dangerous!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: My dr. said babu can go through some major growth spurts in utero also. With Matt i measured 6 weeks ahead then the next time it was 5 then 4 and so on. He stayed 2 weeks ahead and when born at 37 weeks was 7 lbs 6 oz so he would have been a little big if he went all the way to his due date.
Kaitlin'smom replied: boys do tend to be bigger than girls, so that is most likly it I measurea a bit bigger at one point but only by 2 then evened out. I would waite and see at the next appointment how it then and of still off then ask
