missionary visitors - how do you handle them?

luvbug00 wrote: Ok well 2 missionary men from the morman religon just came to my door and caught me way off gard laugh.gif . they were pretty hot actually with thier little backpacks and all. Anyway we ofen have missionarys of jahovas witnesses and morman faiths. I try and be as gracious as i can while I know other people who give them a not so nice send off.

How do you handle thie missionarys who visit you??

mckayleesmom replied: Well if they were hot I would let them talk for a while laugh.gif ...Then tell them Im happy with my religion and Im not interested. Also...that is if they catch me off guard...the rest of the time I don't open the door.

Bee_Kay replied: I am fairly polite when I try and turn them away.

If they don't take the polite hint, I get way more aggressive.

luvmykids replied: Usually, if I can tell, I don't answer the door. But if I get caught talking to them I just firmly tell them that I already have a relationship with the Lord, that I appreciate what they're doing but that they're wasting their time talking to me. I'm sure they leave thinking I need it more than anybody! rolling_smile.gif

Bee_Kay replied:
wow, you hit the nail right on the head.

I had a friend that was a jehovah's witness and I asked her about how they deal with people turning them away.
She said that they try even harder i.e. they need us more than anyone!

I had to stop talking to her about her choice of faith, it caused some heated arguments.

gr33n3y3z replied: I try to not answer the door
But if i do I'm nice and send them off

C&K*s Mommie replied: I do not think that they can come into your home without a male being present. I know when people from our church came to check in on us one time, they (the two men we knew from our class) did not come in because Chris was not home. I understand because some people may lie and try to get them in trouble, with lies.

I have been encountered before, too. I listened patiently (this was waaayyyy before having kids), they would ask questions, I would tell them my answers, blahblah.gif blahblah.gif blahblah.gif . I would kindly take the infor they gave & that was that.

Nowadays, I would do what Monica does. Tell them the truth outright, end of coversation. sleep.gif

Bee_Kay replied: Yeah, but isn't it wonderful when you TRY to NOT answer the door and one of your young children scream "MOM there's someone at the door"!!! laugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
OMG that happens all the time! Worse is they all crowd at the window right by the front door and open the blinds!!!! growl.gif

Bee_Kay replied: It's really too bad about my former friend.
I do have respect for other peoples faiths and beliefs, until they tell me that my children and I will burn in eternal hell for not being a J.H.!! growl.gif
Needless to say, the friendship ended.

C&K*s Mommie replied: emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

BAC'sMom replied: emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif Monica your going to get me in trouble! I'm at work and I can't be laughing out loud like this, they will either think I am Crazy or Messing around on the computer!
I can just see your kids standing at the window! emlaugh.gif

kimberley replied: we have jehova witnesses that come. i pollitely tell them i am catholic and they go away. the last place i lived at, there was one girl who came that actually was interesting. we would chat about our own interpretations of the old testament and how it related to the world today. filled the time for a lonely sahm tongue.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: We became very good friends with 2 Morman missionaries several years ago. They were the alsolute sweetest girls~we loved them!! We told them upfrot we were happily Catholic but they were more than welcome to share their religion with us. They came every week and we cooked them dinner and they did a little "lesson" from their faith. Although our faiths differ about as much as 2 faiths can, we became very good friends. They got permission from their bishop to attend the Ohio State Fair with us and a couple of other social things. We got to go to some of their picnic outings, too.

Now the Jehovah Witnesses are little different story(not because they are unfriendly~just because they come once a week)! Fortunately, I'm always in my jammies when I got to the door so they just leave literature and hit the road. rolleyes.gif

luvmykids replied:
sorry rolling_smile.gif

Mom2BNTN replied: Honestly, I usually do not even go to the door. However, I have sometimes been outside upon their arrival and I just tell them that my father is a minister and that I am not interested in the tracks they are passing out. They leave and don't seem to be upset.

~~*Missi*~~ replied: luckily i get off easy. I live with my dad who is a minister and i just point that out before i say thanks have a nice day and slam the door LOL

coasterqueen replied:
My MIL is a Jehovah Witness and tells me this all the time. She cries often knowing that I will not be with her in their heaven. rolleyes.gif I wish I could tell my MIL to politely go away when she comes to the door. emlaugh.gif

We also have Mormons in our family....just deal with them is all I do. rolleyes.gif

bigthink.gif we have lots of religion in our families. wacko.gif

CantWait replied: I just tell them I'm not interested, if they persist I get nasty and turn the door on their face mad.gif

jacobsmama replied:
hahah Jacob always yells COME IN!! and I'm like no!! I will be half dressed or in the bathroom and he is yelling that laugh.gif

MamaJAM replied: We get people here a lot. I just tell them flat out I'm not interested. I'm not rude -- but I also am not going to allow them to engage me in a long conversation. Usually - they leave without problems. (The fact that I almost always have a dog right there barking her head off helps.)
Occasionally - we'll have a persistant person/couple come and they keep trying to push their pamplets, etc on me......when that happens - I just tell them I don't 'buy' anything that someone tries to sell me at my door and close it.

Bee_Kay replied: With my former friend, telling me that I was going to burn in eternal hell ....

I just pointed out, that if she wants to get technical I could name the 10 commandments and explain to her that she, in her life, has broken 9 of them (maybe 10) and I pointed out some of her past and present indiscresions.... it didn't take but a few minutes for me to put her in her place and get her to shush smile.gif

J-rod replied: my dog takes care of them. LOL had some people come by one evening..walked to my back door. i opened it and saw my dog come running at them. (he wanted to play but they didnt know that. smile.gif ) i grabbed him as he went to jump on them. suddenly they said they come back another time and i havent seen them since.

SO score is:

My Rot -1 Missionary people - 0

jcc64 replied: I politely tell them that I don't feel comfortable discussing my spiritual inclinations with strangers. If you say it the right way, they get the message that there is no room for discussion and go on their way.

Bee_Kay replied: I had some JH come to the door (I didn't know who they were immediately) and they started talking about problems in our school district (purposely not identifying themselves), so I invite them in.

So, I listened to them, being interesting in my children's school. THEN it hit me.... I peered at them and I asked, are you people jehovahs witnesses? They said yes and tried to shove a watchtower at me.

I was pi**ed! So, I crumpled up their watchtower in front of them, and I said something like "You people purposely hid who you really are, knowing that I have children and using them to get into my home.... GET THE &*%# OUT OF MY HOUSE and don't EVER step on my property again!"

And so far, they haven't!! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

So, now from what I hear, they are sending children around door to door because they know that people wouldn't talk to or treat children that way. *shaking head*

MamaJAM replied: My DH does bother me with this. He will talk to them forever (at the door though...he knows I'd be REALLY mad if he invited them inside). There's an older JW couple that won't leave me alone now. They know DH's name and if I answer the door I always tell them I'm not interested - they'll ask for my DH. He also takes their dang papers -- which just gives them more reason to keep coming back. dry.gif

Not to be rude - but - it's like feeding a stray cat. If you do int ONCE - they just keep coming back forever.

Bee_Kay replied:

OMG!!!! Feeding a stray cat !!!!!

I choked on my coffee when I read that, I am laughing so hard!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
