mucus plug - TMI warning
my2monkeyboys wrote: I think I may have lost some of my mucus plug last night... when I went to the bathroom and wiped I had a good sized gob of pink discharge. Off and on a few times since then I've had a couple of contractions low in the vaginal area, though not bad ones. They are the same kind I had when I went into labor with Will... I never really had the kind that people talk about that start from your back and come around your belly, except when I was having Braxton Hicks, which I've been having for about 2 weeks now, of course. With Will I lost my plug completely about 10 days before I went into labor, but I know all pregnancies are different, so that may not be what happens this time. Anyway, I'm a little concerned as I'm not sure what I should do, as far as physical activity. I have a call in to my dr, but the dr on call hasn't returned my call yet. Any thoughts? Thank you!!
boyohboyohboy replied: stephanie, I think I would sit down with my feet up and drinks lots of water. Hopefully its just his head down pushing and sometimes squishing the cervix can cause some discharge.. I am sending you vibes to keep that little boy in for at least 5 more weeks.
my2monkeyboys replied: Well, it happened again - more of the discharge. I have just talked to the nurse, though, and she told me to take it a little easy today, esp if I start having contractions (you know, the lay on your side, drink lots of water routine). And to call her back ASAP if the discharge turns red or if the contractions start getting regular/more intense. She also said that since I'm losing it already the odds are that I'll have him a little earlier than I had Will, just based on when I've starting losing my plug and that sort of thing. So, I guess we'll see how it goes. I have an appt on the 5th for a check-up so I hope I'll be a-ok until then.
my2monkeyboys replied: I must have posted again before I realized you had posted - sorry! Nice to know that your advice is spot-on, though! Thanks for the help and the stay-put vibes!!
boyohboyohboy replied: stephanie, am I correct in remembering that you are a little ways from the hosp? if you have any signs of contractions I would make them take you in and check you, they can give you some meds to stop labor and keep him in there a while longer. caleb was born at 34 weeks, and was fine, never spent a day in NICU. wishing you the best also! spend a lazy sunday on the couch watching tv being waited on...
my2monkeyboys replied: Yeah, I about a 35-40 min drive (if you don't get caught by the train!) from the hospital. I do plan on letting my dr know about this tomorrow, just in case he'd rather check me. I know that this little squirt has been very active in the lower area - I told the Dr at my appt Thursday that I think he must have his hand near his head bc it felt like he was trying to pry his way out of my cervix. The Dr joked that he was trying to swim out already. I think I will try to take it easy today - though I had my heart set on going to Babies'R'Us and picking up a couple of things bc I have some really good coupons about to expire. Oh well, a healthy baby is more important than saving a few bucks!
boyohboyohboy replied: absolutely! and if you call them now, ask for the manager, tell them you have coupons that expire today and cant come in, ask to have them accepted tomorrow..I bet they will. or send dh out to get what you wanted..
I feel like the queen of preterm labor all three of mine had me in and out of the hosp constantly from 21 weeks on...
punkeemunkee'smom replied: It sounds like the mucus plug to me. I would call the doctor or go in even if the nurse says no big deal....Were the vaginal contractions almost like pinching pains? Those can be dialation pains. ~~~~Stay put baby vibes~~~~
Crystalina replied: Let us know as soon as you know something!! I've had severe Braxton Hicks and they are sooo painful. It starts in the back and feels like a charlie horse that comes around into my lower gut and just sits there. It finally eases up (just like a charlie horse does). Ow, Ow, Ow!
With both my kids I've had severe back labor until they popped out. Back labor is the worst!
my2monkeyboys replied: The BH contractions I have typically start around the sides and moves towards the middle, from the top to the bottom of my abdomen. Just a severe tightness that hurts, but no real pain, if that makes sense. The contractions I was having off and on earlier just feels like sharp stabbing pains in the vaginal canal -- the same feeling I have when I'm menstruating and the same kind I had when I was in labor with Will. I also had a bought of upset stomach this morning when all that cramping was going on, but it seems to be fine now. I've been resting a good bit and drinking extra water, so we'll see how if that continues to help. The nurse did tell me that whether the contractions feel painful or not, if they get to be regular to call her and she'd call the dr. in to see me. Whether I have anymore or not though I'm going to call him in the AM just to make sure he knows.
Not really related, but have any of you had your legs be sore, kind of where the ligament is that runs from your groin down your thigh on the inside of your leg? It's not the muscle, just that ligament. It's been really sore for about 3-4 weeks now, almost like I've been over exercising it. (Only I haven't ) Anyway, that's not on topic, but since I thought about it I thought I'd ask.
Thanks again ladies!!!
Edited: typos, though I may have missed some others!
ZandersMama replied: umm, not to be freaky or try to scare you or anything but with those kinds of pains I would go in and get checked anyway. with zav i was joking the nite before that he was trying to pry his way out. i really dont want to freak you out but please go get checked.
my2monkeyboys replied: I'll certainly keep you and your situation in mind. I am not at all against getting checked, and more than likely my dr will want to see me, too. He tends to be a bit on the cautious side of things, thankfully. So far today I've had no more episodes of anything strange, but I'm keeping a close eye on it. I'll be putting a call in to his office first thing in the AM. Thanks for warning me - I'd rather be too scared than not scared enough.
Crystalina replied: OH yes! I had that and still do. Dr. told me to take B12 vitamins and it helps a bit. With my sister (who had the same complaint) he told her to wear those Ted (sp) hose. The real tight legging things. She has veins sticking out though so that's probably why. My pain would start up a bit above my knees and go right into the nether regions!!! It wasn't pleasant and still happens once in awhile but then again I always forget to take the B12.
Crystalina replied: OH and btw, you better not have your baby before I have mine!!!! I'm so ready for this to be over.
A&A'smommy replied: bless you heart I REALLY hope he decides to check you tomorrow and I REALLY hope everything is ok and that you don't need to be on bed rest but thats better than having him too early!! KUP!!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I hope everything stays quite for you! Sharp stabbing pains like that vaginally are dialation pains so take it very easy and MAKE your doctor check you or go ahead and go to the hospital just to be sure! Keep in mind that you can dialte for weeks though so this is probably just the beginning for you
my2monkeyboys replied: Hello all! I'm back from the doctor's and everything checked out just fine. He said my cervix is closed tight and is thick, and the baby is not showing any signs of stress. I was told to just take it extra easy for a while and keep up the fluid intake. If my contractions gets to 6+ an hour then I'm supposed to drink an extra couple glasses of water and lie down for an hour. If they don't let up/go away, then I am to come back in. He also said that as far as the mucus plug, there isn't really anything you can do about that -- he said it happens earlier in some women, and that it's really the contractions that need to be kept in check. As long as there isn't much more of it or it doesn't turn into blood then it should be fine. I have a regular appt. next Thursday, so I'm hoping I won't need to see him again until then. Thanks so much for the support and positive thoughts!!!
A&A'smommy replied: thats such good news!!
