myspace - friend requests
Danalana wrote: Ok...last night, I got a friend request from an actual, awesome person. Unfortunately, 99% of the friend requests I get belong to people whose "profile no longer exists" What's that about?
kellibellisdillybear replied: i'm no expert, but i'm on myspace too. I think those are usually spam kind of things. Sometime's they're solicitors, and just like a lot of other scams, they do their work as fast as they can, then delete the account before they can get caught. I've had random friend requests from people looking to have sex, to hairstylists, to small bands. It's the newest way to network i guess. I don't agree to be anybodies friend that I don't personally know, for some it's just a competition to get thousands of "friends". Kinda dumb if you ask me.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Yup, it's spam. If you check them before the profile no longer exists, most have something about paid surveys, free gift cards, etc in their profile. I get a ton of them too.
gr33n3y3z replied: yep its spam then the account gets deleted
Miranda1127 replied: thats one of the reasons i keep my profile private. i never recieve spam or unwanted guests
stella6979 replied: Same here.
Danalana replied: hmmmmm.....okey dokey
Boo&BugsMom replied: Me too. Im' on private as well. I get strange requests every once in awhile, but it isn't very often at all. If I do get any spam it's because someone hacked into one of my friends accounts and posted something on my page or through a bulletin. I also so not approve people who I do not know...either in person or on one of my forums I frequent.
Danalana replied: Yeah, I only approve people I know, or an interesting band or something.
Miranda1127 replied: yeah same here, i also don't have to many friends. i figure i visit forums i can talk to people there no need to add them to myspace (but i do add to my yahoo im). besides my myspace is really only used to talk to old friends i don't see often and for long distance family to keep in touch/updated
Danalana replied: I have quite a few friends on myspace, but I recently deleted about 50 that I never communicate with.
Miranda1127 replied: wow. i've never went over 20. i wouldn't know what to do w/ 50 myfriends
Danalana replied: hehe, it's not too complicated
Miranda1127 replied: i bet it would be for me though. i have some anti-social tendancies. i like to keep my friends to small groups. i do ok in large group functions and all but aquaintances (even adding those i wouldn't be close to 50 ) aren't really friends (i expect to much of people). i guess thats why i like coming to forums it's a lot easier for me to socialize
Danalana replied: ooooooh, I see. It's funny, because I should be that way. I'm not that big on trust, really. But, I don't know...lately, I just want to feel like there are people around me. Yeah, I wish all 124 friends on myspace were real friends, but of course they aren't. I like being able to go to other people's pages and see what's new with them or to look at pictures...kinda keeping up, I guess. But anyway, i do understand what you're saying.
