need help cleaning car seat - alpha omega
boyohboyohboy wrote: ok, so today was one of those days that I think would have been better off spent in bed.... on the way to the surgeon to get calebs check up done, jake fell asleep 5 mins before we get there, and of course he has a runny nose and all that yuck running down his throat causes him to gag, as we are driving, he starts to throw up...and throw up as only he can....I swear it must have been an entire can of pediasure that came out of this kid...well he was covered as was his car seat. and thru the car seat down on to the van seat..oh which is cloth also! luckily we had a spare pair of clothes for him, and made it to our appt. but I only had a tiny little receiving blanket to throw on the car seat until we got home. once home I tore that thing apart. I mean literally, it just wouldnt come apart very easily. I cant imagine they made this car seat not to be washed...its for kids! so I have it torn apart, but now I am wondering if its going to go back together. I just ruined a $180 car seat! has anyone ever tore one of these things apart down to the bare plastic and actually gotten it back together? I am worried about safety now.
lesliesmom replied: I've done it to most of my car seats. Be strong. It will go back, somehow. Always took me a while to figure out how to put the D&^N thing back on but I did. Good luck!
boyohboyohboy replied: I am glad to hear that, because honestly after this day, I am ready to chuck it down the bank into the high way... its just one of those days.
coasterqueen replied: If you can't get it figured out maybe take it to Babies R Us, if you have one, and I bet you someone there will have a soft spot for a pg woman and two kids and put it back together for you
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: We have gotten them apart...and back together again Katy seemed to go through a car sickness period so we did a lot of seat washings and had an AO at teh time.
GOod luck
Calimama replied: They go back together.. takes a TON of maneuvering but it's not ruined. Do you have the manual?
PrairieMom replied: It will go back together. I have read lots of reviews on them, (I have the same brand seat) and the major complaint about them was that they were a PITA to get back together.
BabyOwen427 replied: Dig out the instruction booklet or get on the manufactures website, I'm sure there are instructions on how-to somewhere. I've taken several carseats apart, washed them, and put them back together. DS's infant seat has a tool for threading the belts but it could have been done with a butter knife. I'm sure you'll get it back, just have patience. Good luck
mom21kid2dogs replied: I had an older A/O model (obviously since O is 6.5) but IIRC, there is a bar that you need to remove in the back or bottom of the seat. It required a screwdriver to push in and out. Cosco does have all the manuals printed on their website if you don't see what I'm talking about. Once you do it, it's cake but the first time is a bite. I bought mostly Britax and theirs (especially the Bodyguard) are a bite, too!
msoulz replied: This sounds like a great idea to me too. Also some police or firefighters will check the carseat to be certain it is properly installed - I'll bet they would help put it back together too - and it's a perfect reason to get a break from the kids because you can't take them with you without the seat!! Or just put it in the car and go to a park somewhere and work on it for some peace after the day you had!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: I attempted to get this thing back together now, but I think I am going to leave it alone and come back to it tomorrow, kinda like a puzzel! I got it all back together but the side straps that go across the hips are twisted...URG! so maybe a fresh start tomorrow will help. my dh came home just happy and had a great day, and was whistling in the shower and it made me want to repeatedly flush the toliet...how mean am i?
Calimama replied: Did you? Make him put it together tonight.
msoulz replied: Oh, I was thinking the same thing! That'll knock the whistle right out of him!!!
lovemy2 replied: Doesn't that just push you over the edge - mine usually comes home in a great mood and then rewards himself for making it through the day with a nice hour long nap
