need natural birth advice..
kimberley wrote: ok, i guess anxiety is starting to set in and i am getting scared of birth. i have labored to 10cm without meds but never birthed. even with the epi i felt crazy pain when the head/shoulders came out. i know that i need a focal point but do you have any other advice for me? thanks.
booey2 replied: Kudos to you for going natural, I didn't, I went as far as 7-8 but screamed for the epi. As far as advice, keep the room lights dimmed and noise to a minimum. I have heard that that helps. Easy labour vibes coming your way. Have you started labour yet??
PrairieMom replied: I did the whole thing with no epi, and yeah, it hurt when the head and shoulders came out, but only for a few minutes, and then it was over. you can do this. Just keep thinking "this too shall pass" you are going to be fine. Just stay relaxed and don't panic!
gr33n3y3z replied: I went this way to 3x and i couldnt have said it any better Just remember its a pain you will forget I know you can do it Kimberley
jcc64 replied: To me, the pushing part was the least of it. I really do believe that enduring the contractions during transition is far worse, b/c there is just nothing you can do but breathe. Although the pain of delivery is acute, I found that I at least had something to focus on other than the pain- the fact that I could actively do something to make the pain end sooner rather than later. I delivered all 3 of my kids in 2 pushes- so obviously I was DETERMINED. It's empowering in a certain way- you can do this Kimberly- you're a pro. You're just having last minute jitters.
kimberley replied: thanks for the votes of confidence i do have jitters. no consistent cx yet but there are more today than the past two days.
3_call_me_mama replied: Kimberly you are a strong and brave woman. I KNOW you can do it. I did both mine with nothing and like someone else said, the pushing was the least of my problems. I rememebr touching the babies head and then just being anxious to get hem out and it was almost calming at that point. i just keep thinking about how soon i would be through it. Also the shoulders go pretty quickly, at least mine did so that was a big plus!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I don't want to sound too graphic... but it's like pushing poop when you're constipated. You have to relax, breathe, push HARD...and you have to push PAST the burning feeling...othwise, you end up turtleheading.... Once the biggest part is out... the rest just kinda comes easily - you don't "really" have to push.
A baby coming out is kinda the same feeling.
With Zach - I did it natural until the end... i got a shot of demerol (nubain) but THAT didn't even kick in until my 3rd stitch was being stitched... and with Emilie, although I had some Nitrous oxide gas - I still felt almost everything. With Naomie - I had gas as well, for the last maybe 6 contractions... but the mask kept popping off the tube, and I didn't feel any gas effects... so dh and i think it was improperly hooked up and I wasn't really getting any.
You can do it. IMO - the contractions at the end are worse then the pushing.
A&A'smommy replied: OH Kimberely I'm SO excited for you!! You are doing something AMAZING and you will have WONDERFUL memory of a completly natural birth!! You are going to do wonderfuly and I can't WAIT to hear all about it!!! I know I know NOTHING about a natural delievery but I just wanted to give you some support!!
CantWait replied: You can do it Kimberley.
I birthed natural with no epi with both Robbie and Anthony, just try and remember to breathe. I personally find that slow breaths in and out work better then the huff huff puff puff or whatever it is they teach you. Use dh as a support to lean on, and breath, and have him rub whereever it is that there's pain. You'll do awesome
Mom2Boyz replied: I don't have any advice since I was to much of a wuss to go natural But I wanted to offer some and support. I'm sure you'll do great!!! And I can't wait to meet your new little one
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I brought my favorite music and a CD player and had it playing quietly. I kept the lights low and I had Aaron bring a stuffed bunny from Logan's room. I kept it on the window sill of the room and everytime I thought I couldn't do it anymore, I looked at it and remembered why I was doing this. Good luck to you, Kimberley. You'll do great.
holley79 replied: I don't have any advice either Kimberly but I know that you can do it. You are such a strong person. You got your pool so maybe that will help things out.

PhiMuMommy replied: have you tried playing a game? i played cards (till i fell asleep.. the epi put me out) it might have helped..lol
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I went natural with my last 2. With Emily they gave me demoral. With Spencer I just did a lot of breathing exercises and that really worked for me. I hope everything goes well for you. Good Luck!
