not off my rocker . . . - ear candles
jolene555 wrote: hiya. i've been seeing that some of our pg ladies have been getting colds, sinus infections, ect. i wanted to mention an ancient chinese treatment (that is completely safe during pregnancy) called ear candles.
they are these hollow fabric-composed candles that are about a foot long. what you do is lay down with one of your ears upwards, place the candle in your ear, and light the candle (with someone actually doing this part for you). they produce no ash, and your helper can remove the candle when it burns to about 1 1/2 inches from your ear. the whole process takes around 15-20 minutes. very relaxing.
now, what it does is create a vaccuum. it removes infection, overbuilt wax, shampoo/conditioner that's been collecting for a long time, and in rather disgusting cases even bugs (you can cut open the candle when you're done to see what came out - only if you have a strong stomach - lol). it also enhances your hearing. you can do both ears at once, but no less than 6 months until the next time.
just thought i'd mention it as an alternative . . .
Kaitlin'smom replied: interesting....but the fact that its lit scares me....have you ever done this?
Boys r us replied: WOW!!! VEry COOL!!!!! Where do you get these!!!!!!!
5littleladies replied: My dad has used these and he said they worked awesome!! I'm not sure where he got them though.
coasterqueen replied: Sounds interesting but scary too. Where do you get them?
5littleladies replied: They're actually not as scary as they sound. They are like long taper candles and they are lit at the opposite end as your ear (obviously ). I don't think there is too much of a chance of lighting anything on fire.
jolene555 replied: yes, i have used them several times. i also have talked a few (rather sceptical) individuals into trying them, and all were happy they had. i get mine from a local healthfood store - they are on the cheaper end at $2/candle. my sister in pittsburgh gets hers from gnc (they run $10/pair), so i suppose they all carry them. there are also day spas around here that do the entire procedure for you. so basically, anywhere that is health related would be a good place to try.
i would suggest them to anyone who has cold symptoms, chronic sinus problems, allergies. it feels like it cleans out your whole face, if that makes any sence.
jolene555 replied: and i just realized that there is a banner on the page with "ads by goooooogle" and it has ear candle resources listed. anyone else see that?
coasterqueen replied: LOL! I just saw that add as soon as you said that. Well I can't get to the health food store til Thursday, unfortunately, but I will definitely go then!!! I'm up for anything. I need whatever can help me before I stand up in this wedding this weekend. I just hope my sinuses can hold out til Thursday.
kit_kats_mom replied: I've never tried them but I've heard good things about them. I just put peroxide in my ears yesterday & lay on one side while it bubbles away. It kind of does the same thing but probably not as well.
MommyToAshley replied: The ads are supposed to be set up to only show information relavent to the content of the page, so I guess it is working. LOL I have never heard of the ear candles, so I clicked on the ad just to see what they look like.
DH gets earaches often, I should buy some and let him try them out. I don't think I could open up the candle though... I would probably heheeh
Kaitlin'smom replied: sounds deffinalty interesting but I could not open it.....I would be terrified of what I found
ediep replied: oohhh, that sounds very cool. They have it at the salon where I get my hair done. They do it for you as a spa treatment.
Boys r us replied: I'm going to get some!!!!!!!
I'll be the guinea pig and try them and give you a full report! LOL
A&A'smommy replied: WOW that is SO cool!!!
My2Beauties replied: Hmmm I came down with a cold this morning as a matter of fact and DF has been sneezing his head off due to allergies for 3 days now...might try those out!
