numb hands - hand and arm falling asleep is this norm

jessi wrote: I am 6 and 1/2 months pregnant with twins. Lately I have been waking everymorning to pain caused by myarm tingling from my elbow to my finger tips. I remember this happening when I was pregnant with my one year old.
Does any one know what causes this. Has any one else had this happen to them?

MyLuvBugs replied: Do you have high BP? That might be a sign, especially if you're carrying twins. You'd better get off to the Doc to find out for sure. Good luck!! hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I had it, my doc said it was PG induced carple tunnel, it was bad in my left hand, I had to get a brace. It went away a few after I had kait. ask your doc

mckayleesmom replied: I was always under the understanding that it was your blood pressure and to reduce your salt intake. My sil had it and her hand kept going numb and thats what the doctor told her.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sounds like carpel tunnel to me, but I would talk to your OB about it to be sure. I've noticed a little pain just from the tip of my thumb to my wrist lately. Sounds similar I guess.

Lynda836 replied: Also had numbness and tingling in my hand during preg. I never had it diagnosed but I assumed it was Carpal tunnel syndrome....matched what I had read on the internet. Mine went away soon after delivery. It was annoying though...used to wake up during the night when my arm fell asleep.

CantWait replied: I had the same thing, mostly in my legs. My OB said it was pregnancy induced Carpal Tunnel. It could also be high blood pressure, or the babies sitting on your nerves.

MommyToAshley replied: I had the same thing happen to me, it was mostly my right hand and arm. But, it would happen in both sometimes. Doc said it was carpel tunnel as well. I didn't get mine until the 9th month, thank goodness. My doc had me do this excercise that helped for a short time, but it never really got better until after Ashley was born.

You should mention it to your OB thuogh because it can be a sign of high BP.

USMCwife replied: Same thing happened to me w/ both of my pregnancies. My doc also said it was Carpel Tunnel and would go away a few days after birth. Sure enough it went away after I had them.
Something that helped me a little because I would wake up in the middle of the night 3 or 4 times. I used TigerBalm and also running fairly hot water over my hands. I know it is miserable.

CAMSMOM1 replied: Jessie, I also had that while I was pg, the doctor said it's because your blood supply is going to the baby, and it can effect the feeling in your arms and legs. I also had carpal tunnel in both of my arms, which went away after I delivered. As long as the feeling comes back after a few min, you're fine. Yes, it can also be high bp, but it's very common to have circulation problems the further on you go in prg.

TsurugiButterfly replied: I had the numbness in my left arm for much of the last couple weeks of my pregnancy. I assume it was just carpal tunnel because my doc didn't seem too concerned about it. Was rather annoying, though.

kimberley replied: i dont get it as much in my arms as i do in my legs. according to my doc, it is just lack of blood flow.
