ok, update on the ebay lady
cameragirl21 wrote: she just emailed me and said that she does crochet the hats among other things that she'll do them for me and that price depends on what I want, etc. ok...here's my next question--I think some of the hats I like may be knitted, not crocheted...I don't knit, nor do I crochet so for those who do, please forgive my ignorance on this matter BUT...if she crochets, should I assume she also knits, do the 2 go hand in hand AND, what happens if the hat samples I send her that I want her to do are knitted and not crocheted? Would she have a way of making the same idea but via crocheting instead of knitting? Idk any of this, I am so not into knitting, crocheting and sewing and really don't know how any of it works.
PrairieMom replied: crocheting and kniting are not the same thing, I wouldn't assume that she does both. I crochet, but have know idea how to knit. from what I can tell, the finished project looks the same, if not very similar, so I don't know that there would be a huge difference in the hats.
cameragirl21 replied: So, Tara, do you crochet baby hats? Name your price....
Crystalina replied: Hey, I can crochet a straight line but after that I start making a triangle. I have no idea why. I always end up with a triangle.
And I can't knit to save my life.
luvbug00 replied: i stand corrected!
Kaitlin'smom replied: deffinatly 2 different things. I learned to knit from a foreign exchange student that stay with us back in what 86, and learned how to crochett a few years ago, IMO crochett is so much faster.
cameragirl21 replied: thanks for the quick responses, everyone. I do realize that crocheting and knitting are two different things, I just didn't know if they go together, in other words, if you knit then you also crochet, etc. The lady said that she also does blankets, booties, scarves, etc, which is also stuff I wanted so I asked her if she'd make them. How long does it take to make this stuff and how complicated is it to make? I only ask because Idk what a fair price would be for all this.
PrairieMom replied: I have made 2 baby hats. One will fit Al this winter, and one is too big for me. I used the same pattern. I have been crocheting for 7-ish years now, and just started learning to do "rounds" so I don't have the expertise you need. I did the first hat in about a week, it was fairly simple, I bet someone who knows what they are doing could do it in a day or so, depending on how long they devote to it. THe price of yarn varies depending on the brand/ type. I have found that the nicer soft baby yarn is more expensive.
PrairieMom replied: I'll bet you are either missing stitches or increasing the tension of your yarn.
Mommy2Isabella replied: Sals mom made Isabella baby blanket it is like a CRIB size like the size of the mattress type long and skinny, but it is as long as me about 5 something, doesn't cover my head,
BLAH!! Point of the story ... It took her about 2 weeks to make it, it is pretty neat, I will take a picture in just a second!! To show you size and complexity!
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I am the same way. I was told it was because I don't add a stitch at the end of my rows and hence forth the triangle. Oh I can't knit either.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Jennifer, I knit and I crochet. I make mostly baby stuff, because that's what sells the most I find.
Crochet is a lot quicker, and you can make a heck of a lot more intricate patterns.
You end up with a triangle because you don't pick up the last stitch and you start on the 2nd.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: When I make mine, I make usually a dress or jacket, diaper cover, booties, hat or bonnet - and they go for about 35-40$. Blankets, depending on the pattern, I usually see for between 25-75$ depending on size (just to wrap baby or crib sized) and extras used like ribbons or tiny flowers etc.
As for complicated... if the pattern is well written, any decent crocheter should be able to do it for you. Grannies who mainly do generic stuff may have a hard time, just because it's so different that the tpical hdc, dc or tdc's that they may be used to.
My main pc is in the shop now because the cpu fan is busted, but when we get it tomorrow I can show you tons of pics of stuff I've made. Or I could just take some new pictures, whatever... oh and the dress\jacket set with booties, bottom annd hat takes me about 2 days to make. I mean, I sitll gotta watch my kis and clean my house.
cameragirl21 replied: I'd love to see your stuff, Rocky, please show some pics, maybe, if you're interested, we could work something out...I need new stuff for pics and I'm looking to incorporate color into pics, generally of newborns and older babies and typically I use flowers, etc, because this is Florida afterall but I'm looking to find other ways to add color into pics so I was thinking of hats, blankets, scarves, etc on an otherwise naked baby (wearing a diaper and bloomers over) so that is the idea of what I'm looking for and what I need it for. So I'm looking for something unusual, not typically sold everywhere, colorful and flattering against soft baby skin. Show me pics and I'll show you more or less what I'm looking for if you want to see. Thanks.
Jake&Emma'sMommy replied: I'm right there with you!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Here are some pictures, Jennifer.
Ornaments I made for our ornament exchange last year - I sent them to 3_call_me_mama
 Kimono and bonnet
Like a little nightgown... I don't particularly like this pattern. It looks funny.

This is my favorite pattern for girls. It's so Princess like. I've made some up to size 5.
Blanket I made on the plane back from Edmonton in May. It took me about 4 hours I guess..
cameragirl21 replied: Very cute stuff, Rocky! I'm looking for more simple hats, though, kind of like beanie caps that fit over the head and fold over at the base, is that something you can make or want to make? I'm also looking to blend many colors, like at least 4 colors into one hat...does that make it more complicated? I love the diaper covers too, ok, dumb question--can they be used on boys as well as girls? Also, love the ornaments, can they be made in multiple colors? They may be good for my Christmas pics, they do add something unusual. Again, really cute stuff!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I've done beanies. I do simple hats, like sunhats, all the time. I make at least a dozen a week, that I give to a local program that distributes them to hospitals and shelters.
color blending isn't complicated at all. It's a little of a pin when you want to make sure that none of the threads show on the backside... but nothing a needle and thread can't fix.
The diaper covers can be used on girls and boys. They're just not usually pink and yellow or mint and lilac or boys. I have made them bigger, more like little poofy shorts, too.
The ornaments can be made in any color available. The even have some sparkly green white and red threads. They don't have to be limited to Christmas...easter colors for easter, pumpkins for halloween etc...
If you have a pattern, I can likely follow it. Or get one. Or make one up. lol!
cameragirl21 replied: I don't have a pattern, I just wanted a simple beanie cap that covers the entire head and that you can fold over at the base or the kind that you don't fold over but that has the ear flaps with ties at the ends that you can tie under the chin. Idk if that tells you what I'm looking for, please say so if not. And I'd love to get diaper covers to match the caps and/or maybe scarves too. Oh and for sure I want funky blankets. Ok, so some of the color schemes I wanted were--orange (not bright orange, like a pumpkin spice orange), salmon, light purple (like lavender) and light green. Also--aqua blue, royal blue, light green and forest green. And also red (a blue shade of red), orange (again, not too bright), pink (like a rose shade of pink) and a muted yellow (not bright but definitely a clean shade of yellow. I love both beanies and ear flap tie hats so whichever is easier for you to make. And maybe ornaments in Christmas colors, like red and green and red and white like a candy cane.... That's all I can think of now, please let me know what you think and if you would have any desire to make them. I can give you credit for them on my website if you want more business, just don't sell to my competition, lol! Oh and I love stripes, especially if they're not totally "clean" and there's a bit of blending of colors throughout. Oh yeah, and also a pink and chocolate brown hat.... I know I'll come up with more.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: lol!!!!!!
I'll see if I have any current pattern pictures that come close to what you're thinking.
