okkkkkkkk...... what *risks* would me and my baby - have if I went into labor today?

Would the baby have to stay in the hospital? Would this be considered a preemie baby?
MomToMany replied: I think any birth before 36 weeks is considered premature. She would probably have to stay in the hospital for a short time. I hagven't had a preemie before, so I don't know any specifics.
Are you having contractions???
coasterqueen replied: Why?
Well your baby would definitely be considered a preemie. Mine was 36 weeks and they had the NICU on call, one NICU doc there, and even though Megan was big for a 36 weeker she had no fat on her bones what-so-ever (it was gross), female parts weren't fully developed (freaky), among other things. She came out breathing just fine so all was good. Her apgars weren't as great as what her sister's was who was born on time. Lots of vernix on Megan so we know for sure she wasn't near done baking . And she's a month or so behind in LOTS of things now. Things could have gone much worse for her if she wasn't a big baby.
I did not, personally, like having an early baby, so I couldn't imagine having one earlier.
I sure hope you are NOT in labor. Are you?
5littleladies replied: I think the biggest issue at this point is lung development. If you were in labor they might want to give you a steriod shot to help baby's lungs to be more developed before coming out. And yes, baby would quite possibly have to stay in the hospital-most likely for the lung issue. But not necessarily, since it obviously depends on the baby. If you hare having regular contractions I would definitely call the dr. and get some input.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I`m not in labor. lol! Don`t worry - it`s just that I have so many Braxton Hicks nowadays, I don`t have time to keep track of whether they`re regular or not - sometimes, they`ll be like 7 or 8 minutes apart for about 45 minutes or so.....then they stop. They mostly pick up in the evening.... and sometimes they wake me up at night.
I just don`t want to be one of them women who don`t feel anything - get the contractions but not feel them, then next thing I know here`s baby.... kwim?
I`m just curious, that if I would go into labor now, or within the next week or so, if it would be seriously be bad. I`ve never had a preemie... lol
coasterqueen replied: Watch those contractions. Seriously. I had tons and I mean tons and a lot of them didn't feel like BH. I kept telling my doctor and she wouldn't believe me. She swore I'd go 40+ weeks. Didn't Megan show her? I had them more during the day more than anything. Ugh.
A lot of people don't think it's a big deal that a baby is born that early or even at 36 weeks but it was for us. They are meant to stay put for 40 weeks and that's the way I like to keep them, no matter how uncomfortable I get.
luvbug00 replied: Mya came at roughly 30-35 weeks . She was fine except she was really small and had bad jaunduce. she was in the NICU for 1 week. She refused to eat. ( kinda like now!! ) But she was breathing fine. Of course every baby is differant but just a little reassurance...
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I`m not really THAT big, as you might have seen frommy belly pics I posted yesterday... my back hurts, but it hurt BEFORE the baby, so no biggie... it`s not really that I`m uncomfortable - I still sleep on my stomach for crying out loud!!
It`s just that since the pregnancy was dated late... and by ultrasound at about 15 weeks, *they* say that after 12 weeks and before 22 weeks, the ultrasounds can be off by a few weeks.
So what if my due date is October 28th, but REALLY, I`m due at 40 weeks like October 14? or 7th? That would mean that my 37th week would be October 7th right now - but it would be my week 40 potentially?
Which would mean that I`m not really 34 weeks now, I`m 37 weeks now?
I`m just wondering, since at my last appt, I should have measured at 32, but was measuing at 34, and my doc said it was a really big baby, almost 8 pounds....
so i`m a little scared. If last week the baby was at 7pounds 13 ounces, at 32 weeks which could relaly be at 35 weeks.... when am I actually due???
know what I mean? That`s why I`m concerned more than anything.....lol
Kaitlin'smom replied: well if they are right with the due date, which in my case I am almost sure they were weeks off and whiel I went at 37 weeks exactually according to them, I believe the first place I went was more accurate and I was really 39 weeks when I had Kait.
but in answer to yoru question yes if they are corrrect she would be a preimee and depending on how she is when she comes out is to if she would have to stay longer or not. Do you have any clue when you got PG? or are you just going by there dates?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I`m going by their dates..... but I think I got pg around the 9th of January. I think, I`ll have to search through old posts..... but I think I started to feel like I was pg way before having my AF.
And if that`s the case, then I`m at 35 weeks now.
kit_kats_mom replied: Try to make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I was having late afternoon/evening BH for over two months before Lauren arrived. They were always MUCH worse if I'd not had enough water that day. My doc said that dehydration could push you into labor if you are close. Keep that little peanut in there a bit longer.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Couldn`t find anything in old posts... lol
I`m pretty sure I was feeling pg in the beginning of January, like a week before being supposed to get AF.

I just remember I went to take 2 blood tests...the first one was negative, but the stick test came positive...the 2nd blood test came back positive.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: OK I just found a post arond February 25th 2005, saying that I was around 6 or 7 weeks pg - because I`d had my last AF, and like 2 days after, I felt pg - but I had my AF the first month with Zach....
So - If I was say, 6 weeks on February 25th....that would make me about 35 weeks right now, according to the info I found.....which is about right for the time I though I had AF in January.... so I really do believe I`m more like 35 weeks than 33.
kimberley replied: u/s dating can be very unreliable in second tri. and with 3 of my pg's being detected after 12wks and dated by u/s... 2 were "late" tho i believe the dates were wrong (3rd to be seen). and estimating baby weight is also unreliable. they said Jacob would be about 7lbs.. he was 8 1/2 . they said james was gonna be a 9lber right until he was born at 7lbs even . do what you can to keep baby baking as long as you can and get ready! lol
coasterqueen replied: agreed.
I always say you'll know if they baked long enough when they come out and there isn't really any vernix on them. Kylie came out with barely any on her. She was due. Megan was covered so badly in it we wondered about her.
Anyways, if you go into labor just call your doc, they will determine whether they will stop it or not. If they decide not to then there's not much you can do but to have the baby and pray.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Thanks guys.... it really helps that I`m not as crazy as I sometimes think I am...that others know what I`m talking about.
CantWait replied: Robbie was born at 35 weeks and he was big enough that they sent him home the next day. 6.5 when he was born. I also didn't get a steroid shot either but I was far enough into labor and 6 cm dialated when I finally realized something wasn't right and it wasn't just cramps I was having.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Good to know!!!
Thanks!!
moped replied: I think it would be in until the due date, but I am not sure...............are you feeling ok? Do you think the baby is coming?
