parent manners...

kimberley wrote: so we have been talking about the decline of mannerly people in the world and have said the things we hope our kids learn, but what are some of the struggles YOU have with this area? parents aren't perfect either. tongue.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: I have wretched table manners. I eat way too quickly & I barely chew at all. More of necessity than anything else but I do. blush.gif

kimberley replied: k, i will go second lol tongue.gif

cursing while driving. blush.gif i am usually quite good about potty mouth but cannot seem to control myself when some @#$& cuts me off!

offering drinks to guests. i am no Martha Stewart and have always had close friends and family as my only visitors, so i am clueless when it comes to hosting. i just assume they will ask or help themselves lol. i am working on this one.

eating too fast. i rarely get to sit and eat a warm meal ever, so when i get it, i tend to rush so no one can spoil it for me lol.

saying "what" when someone calls me. i can't stand it and really try not to do it.

being too honest.

saying "whatever" in an argument or hanging up on people who anger me on the phone.

correcting people's spelling/grammar blush.gif. i really shouldn't considering all my training in writing flew out the window as soon as i entered the www. laugh.gif

ammommy replied: I have a tendency (or is -ancy?) to interrupt people when they speak and finish their thoughts. blush.gif I've been working on that one, but it's a hard habit to break.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I don't let people cut in front of me in line... but I don't tell them to go to the back of the line like I should: I make comments like: Good thing not EVERYBODY cuts in line.... so that they can hear... it's rude, but oh so satisfying when they hear me and feel ashamed. emlaugh.gif

I put my elbows on the table, except in a fancy restaurant or if I'm a guest in someone's house. I KNOW it's not good manners... but I don't really care. tongue.gif

I'm a BAD passenger in a car. I flip everybody off, curse, make faces, hand gestures... when we get cut off, or someone doesn't signal etc.... I don't drive... but I sure have road rage. growl.gif

When we go visit our parents - I go to MY mom's...DH goes to his with the kids. I don't like his mom, so I don't go. Rude... but hey... who gives. wink.gif

I can't help but let a "oh GROSS!! That person did..... or didn't....." escape my lips when I have my kids with me and I see a strager sneeze and not cover themselves... or sneeze into their hand and touch something public... or not wash their hands after the bathroom in a public restroom etc... it's hilarfious. Some people are just clueless about disease.

Manners... I got em... but I don't always use em... wink.gif

luvbug00 replied: like I've said plenty of times before ( which can't be good) I have the biggest potty mouth in the world. I have road rage, verbaly. ( no swerving or middle fingers flying) I'm friendly, polite in general.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I have many! But one that comes to mind is when I see someone in another lane next to me try to get ahead of traffic by swerving in & out & speeding-- I speed up just enough to block them into traffic & make them simmer for awhile! growl.gif growl.gif Or if they had been warned in advance of one lane coming to an end (road signs) , and they still try to advance- I do my part to make sure they are not getting the best of me, by keeping them from jumping in front of me! rolleyes.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
LOL....I do that too....and if someone is riding my butt.....I slow down really slow..... laugh.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: YOU TOO?!?!? Glad I am not the only one! blush.gif
I could never slam on the brakes as some people may do. {{kids are in the car 98% of the time}} But I sure love to tick people off when they are in the wrong! mad.gif

ammommy replied: Man, you all would hate my driving tongue.gif

redchief replied: My mind tends to wander while conversing. Especially if the conversation falls into the catagory of "Is this going to be a long story?" I will totally zone out if something else is interesting me.

Insanemomof3 replied: I have a horrible potty mouth. blush.gif I am working on it, but it is winning. tongue.gif I have bad road rage too, though I try to hide it when I have the kids in the van. LOL Although Tristan has now started telling people in front of me, GO &**hole!!! rolleyes.gif

holley79 replied: Hopefully Annika is NOT picking up any of my words when I drive to work. rolleyes.gif Since Hurricane Ivan it takes me an hour to get to work in 5 o clock traffic. mad.gif

I am normally pretty good about letting people in line in front of my if I have a basket full and they only have a few items.

If someone if behind me doing that huffing and puffing crap then I take my time putting my stuff on the belt at check out. dry.gif

I have a tendancy to zone/ let my mind wonder when people are talking to me. ohmy.gif

I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of right now. I am trying to work on the potty mouth though because that's all I need is Annika repeating something while we are in the store. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

jcc64 replied: Really can't deal with cigarette smoke indoors, and I'm not so quiet when complaining accordingly. I mean, smoking is still legall, smokers have their rights, but I can't personally deal with it.
I tend to be impatient with slow drivers if I'm late (which I often am).
I curse, ALOT. You have no idea how hard I work to be "family friendly" on this board.
Sending thank you notes. I admit it, bad , bad, bad.

redchief replied: What's a "Thank you" note? rolling_smile.gif

kimberley replied:
LOL! rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif I don't do them either. blush.gif

DansMom replied: Cursing is definitely one of those habits I've had difficulty overcoming, especially while driving. My mother swore like a sailor---still does, and some of that definitely wore off on me.

Just like Kimberley, I never remember to offer people drinks when they come to my house! At Thanksgiving, people had to ask me if they could have some water laugh.gif

In general, my upbringing was very rural and disorganized, and for that reason I'm terrified of playing hostess. I just know there are so many things I'm clueless about. Fortunately most of my friends don't stand on ceremony anyway.

DansMom replied: Oh yes, forget about Thank you notes---I did write them for wedding and baby, but that's it. My old boss was a terrific and somewhat old-fashioned woman. I was telling her about my vacation and staying with friends, and she asked "Did you write your bread-and-butter letter?" I said "Huh?" Apparently, that's a thank you letter you write when someone has fed and housed you. Who knew?

TANNER'S MOM replied: I curse..and then I curse more. I have a hard time not curseing in my daily life.

I think I am right alot more than I am . I will see people call me ..and if I don't want to talk I ignore them..then I lie and say I never had a missed call..or voice mail. Bad I know.

Since I don't eat alot I chew gum like a cow and pop huge bubbles...and b/c I am the boss at work no one saying anything. But it has to be really annoying.

Randy tells my Dad I am not home at least 2x a week while I hide..

kit_kats_mom replied:
I am horrible about this. I also remember random things that I mean to tell people. Then, since I have suchh a short attention span & I forget stuff, I concentrate on what I maent to say & I don't hear them at all. blush.gif so when they are finished speaking, I spout off some totally unrelated bit of spew. My poor DH gets this all the time. rolling_smile.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I cuss alot even more so when I'm driving ( I try not too but it just happends Working on that )

I tell ppl. the way it is, like it or not ppl.
never have to wonder what I'm thinking bc I will tell you ( trying to control that ) Not working very well blush.gif

(example last night) Ricks GF is a waitress and we went out to eat where she works she was telling me she made 5.00 in tips from 4pm until 6:30pm with full tables I said very loudly if they are that cheap they shouldnt eat out and if someone gave me a 2.00 tip I would chase them down and give it back and tell them they need it more then I do.
Everyone looked at me but dang it...... is so rude to do that to those girls they work hard for their money at least give them 10% of the check. Yes it was Pizza hut.

If you betray my friendship your a done deal ( I will never change that )
You have to earn my trust you screw up your a done deal ( wont change that either )

When i get a bad mean on dont look at me or talk to me ( trying to work on that doing better smile.gif

I leave hair in the tub ( forgets to take it out )

I'm sure i have more but those a just a few that I can think of right off the top of my head.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I try really hard to be "Miss Manners" b/c I'm married to "Mr Manners" rolleyes.gif

I curse, but not around others so I don't think that is considered bad manners. I mind my manners around strangers in other words.

I try to be nice as long as people are nice to me. You teach people how to treat you. wink.gif I won't be a pushover and allow people to be rude to me...someone they don't even know, just b/c they woke up on the wrong side of the bed. dry.gif

I do have road rage, but that doesn't hurt anyone but me so I'm trying to chill out a bit. cool.gif

PhiMuMommy replied: i'm a complete smart alec. i tend to curse a little too often.. but have gotten ALOT better when my kiddo is around. (i say god bless america instead of various explicativse.. people must think i'm really holy..lol)

i have road rage REALLY REALLY BAD

i never eat a table so i have no clue if i have table manners or not..lol. (i thought that is what the arm of the easy chair was?)

all in all .. i have temper issues.. but i'm a redhead.. its comes naturally..lol

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I am the exact same way! I never offer people drinks, take their coats, etc. because my mom never did when I was a kid.

Other than that I have fairly good manners. I am trying to do the best I can to set a good example for my kids so they have greatly improved in the last few months.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
you and I would get along REALLY well IRL.

wink.gif

I use them for everything... even when I'm not angry or annoyed. I'm afraid my kids will think that: the f*&^*ng or the g*&^*& Da(*&(*& is PART of the word. Thankfully - they picked up that those are Mommy's words... emlaugh.gif

USMCwife replied: I curse more tha tI should... well I guess I shouldnt at all. lol But I am trying.

I have road rage at times.

If I am not interested in what someone is saying I just act like I am listening, my mind also wonders.

PrairieMom replied: I hate to admit it, but I trash talk and make judgements on people. I didn't even really reaize that I did it, until DH pointed it out to me. Its something I am working on, because I don't want The Boy growing up like that. Its not nice. blush.gif

CantWait replied:
YES, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE, LMBO.........I hate when people do that.

I also use caps sometimes in the www. world tongue.gif

I have really bad road rage.

I have a huge potty mouth when I'm driving, Anthony now knows every swear word there is to know (I'm really trying to change this)
