school shooting in my town

amynicole21 wrote: Not sure if you've heard the story of the 15yo boy who was shot by the SWAT team on Friday? It happened about 2 miles from my home. The boy brought a "gun" to school and threatened another child with it, then barricaded himself in the bathroom. The police tried to talk him out, but he raised the gun and the police shot him in the head. It turns out that it was a pellet gun that he painted to look real. He died earlier today.

The girls' daycare is about a half mile from the school. They were on lock down yesterday because of all the police activity. For a while, no one knew what the story was - whether there was a gunman roaming the school or what. Totally scary. Such a messed up situation.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I saw the headline before I logged on here, that he had died! ohmy.gif sad.gif So sad....

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I did see something about that story on our news. It is a sad ending to an horrible situation. I have no doubt that there will be an outcry against the police who made the call to fire but I feel that in this day and age kids in public schools know about the Columbines and they KNOW what bringing a gun(pellet or otherwise) to school means. He had threatened another child and instead of giving himself up he raised his weapon at the police-be it in a show of bravado or a purposeful threat-the police responded in the way they are trained to keep them safe. My heart goes out not only to this child's family but to the officer who made the call to end this situation! sleep.gif

Btw~So glad the girls are safe! hug.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied: I can only imagine how difficult this was for you, and others in your city. grouphug.gif
Times have really changed. We live in a society full of violence, and children in broken homes, ect. My heart goes out to this future generation of children. sleep.gif

We had a drive by shooting at our school, and it was very hard to deal with.

We also had a lockdown at the Elementary school that I teach at, and it was very scary for me, and the children. This has happened twice since I've been there. Luckily nobody was hurt, but the after effects it has on the children is very difficult.

My prayers and thoughts are with you, your city, the boys family, and the police officers. hug.gif

Freckled Momma replied: That's so sad sad.gif

Sending to prayers to all involved hug.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: It's awful and I can't imagine how scary it must have been to have your babies so nearby without knowing the full story. Yikes.

I thought I'd heard that the boy was talking about suicide with a friend before hand. Maybe suicide by cop?

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
I was thinking this same thing Cary. I read that the boy had painted over markings that would have told the police that it was a pellet gun. I thought this might have been near you Amy. I was thinking about you the other day during the standoff at the bank as well.

MamaJAM replied: I'm so glad your girls were in a safe place and are ok. hug.gif

I saw that story on the news -- as well as the pellet gun he had a the type of gun the police _thought_ he had.....I can see why the police acted in the way they did. I feel so sorry for all the families affected by the whole situation.

CantWait replied: The news here said that he wanted to commit suicide....guess in a way the police did it for him. I can't imagine how that officer/s feel.

luvmykids replied: What an ugly situation for everyone involved, and what scary times we are raising our children in! Glad you all are safe, and many thoughts and prayers to all the families affected.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: It's too bad that they thought he was too much of threat to be shot, say, in the arm or shoulder instead of the head.

I find that awful. You have to incapacitate before you shoot to kill. I feel awful for the family of that CHILD.

DansMom replied: What a sad situation, and so close to home bawling.gif

fashionmumofboys replied: hug.gif

What a scary thing. Especially so close to your daughter's daycare and home.

holley79 replied: I heard about this on the news up there. It's horrible. Such a waste of a young life. I know they are probably going to come down hard on the PD down there which really stinks. (I'm probably going to get yelled at for this) They were doign their job and I wouldn't have expected a different outcome. A gun is a gun and I'm sorry that the kid was killed but how are they to know that the gun was a pellet gun. I was talking to my deputies up here (for the newbies I work for the Sheriff's Office up here.) and they would have done the same thing. From the "rumor has it" the child was suicidal. What causes a 15 year old to feel that way? I wish he had gotten the help he needed.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the families.

mom2three replied: i heard about that, and i was thinking to myself, why did they shoot him in the head? why not the leg? the arm? i mean, this is someones KID! i don't understand. i did see that the parents okayed his organs being used. God knows that would rip my heart out-- and did.
so sad...

gr33n3y3z replied: why would they aim for his head? why not his knee cap or shoulder?
were talking about pro shooters here its very sad that it had to end that way.

I'm glad everything turned out for the best with all schools in the area
