shake 'n' go speedway - anyone own it?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: My kids really want this toy for Xmas/Hannukah. It's made by Fisher Price (Mattel), so I'm a bit torn with all their recalls. I have googled it and haven't found it on the recall list. But I'm still worried. Anyhow, anyone own it? Is it worth it? The reviews on TRU aren't great....People complain that the tracks come apart really easy. But we own one of the cars and the boys just LOVE it! Opinions?
Here it is!
tammyhopkins replied: Josh got it last year for xmas and it is a hit for him. He loves it and when both adults or kids come over seems to be a big hit as well. It is really easy to put together as well.
Calimama replied: My nephew has it and loves it!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner got this for Christmas two years ago. When he does play with it, he likes it. But, we rarely see him play it which is the issue. The tracks do come apart easily, but if you store it under a bed or something you wont have that problem. Tanner's is under his bed and it just stays in his room so he can pull it out and push it back under.
PrairieMom replied: Its super noisy, and it takes approximately a thousand batteries. Actually, I think a total of 10 AA if I remember right. Ben plays with his every once in a while in spurts. He really likes it, but its a PITA to put together, (he can't do it him self) and the tracks do come apart easily. I don't know what everyone else does to store the thing, but it breaks down into huge pieces, so I keep it in one of those large tupperware bins. It takes up a lot of space for a single toy. Oh, and did I mention that its noisy?
It is fun tho.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Personally, and this is just me, I think it'd be more fun to just get 2-3 of the cars and make your own track at home out of blocks or somethings, or race them on the floor.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Good idea, but then they would just go straight, right? I think the boys would like seeing them go round and round. But hmmm, didn't think about the noise. Tara, is there a volume button? I'm not talking about the crash-up version if you are. I looked at that one and didn't like the idea of the kids playing with something that portrays getting in an accident - especially a car. That's just me.
Boo&BugsMom replied: They would go straight unless you put up a baracade, but on the track they only last so long and you have to keep shaking them over and over again until the "race" is done. Tanner always gets annoyed having to keep shaking them.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Thanks for the feedback! I'll see what DH says. I know HE probably wants it for himself. He was VERY anxious to run out and buy it this weekend.
moped replied: We have it - no problems, and he really likes it!!!!
Thats a great gift
PrairieMom replied: No volume button, each car revs and squeals, and each lap is ticked off by the white sign thing that counts them down and has all those lights on it. and you do have to constantly re-shake, ours only make it about 1 1/2 times around the track before you have to re-shake. I don't remember how many laps = an entire race, but I do know that if you are little, and your car stalls on the side of track farthest from you, you have to get up and walk around the entire track to be able to reach your car. My kids still love it tho. We just keep batteries in the cars themselves, and took them out of the announcer / counter sign.
Jamison'smama replied: We have it---it is fun sometimes. If the cars could make it for one race on a single shake, it would be nice. It was not used as much as I'd hoped it would be. He seems to like some of his hotwheel toys better. It is fun though and with parents or a bigger kid, it is a lot easier.
