shaving questions
Bee_Kay wrote: I have a couple questions.
When I shave the back of my legs (above the knees), it gets irritated so easily... and I get ingrown hairs easily there. any advice for that?
Also, (to anyone that does "intimate" shaving) how the heck do you keep from getting irritation and itchy??
(sorry, this probably belongs on the P&I board, but I don't have enough posts yet)
1lilpeanut2love replied: I have know clue. I NEED HELP TOO!! LOL I get irritation all over the place. Bumps. I also get bumps around my well ya know!! LOL I hope someone on here has some advice. PLEASE HELP US!!
ashtonsmama replied: I have exactly the same problem...my theighs (yuck) get really irritated when I shave-I don't know what to say because I've just been avoiding as much as possible! I tried putting lotion on right after, that doesn't work very well, it just makes it burn more.
So I could use a little help here too! And on the "upper" area...I got a bikini wax before I got pregnant with Ashton, and MAN IT HURTS. Not doing that again for a LOOOOOONG time. OW.
1lilpeanut2love replied: I have always wanted one of those, but was too chicken to ever do it!! lol
Nina J replied: For you legs, I'd suggest a good exfoliating scrub before you shave, just to make sure all of the dead skin is gone. Make sure you have a good quality razor too, and after you get out of the shower mousturise your legs, with a mousturizer with aloe vera or vitamin E. Your razor is important because some of them can just irritate your skin, I got cheap ones once and had to throw them all away.
And, for your down there area, use depilatory cream if your just doing your bikini line, because you can wear you under wear or a thong. But, if you want it all gone, get a brazilian. I used to shave, but started getting a brazilian. It only hurts for a minute, and after you get it done a couple of time's it's easy Sorry if it's TMI lol.
Bee_Kay replied: Well, I don't really want a brazillian.... Just like to keep things neat (LOL Im trying to be discreet).
OMG I've seen women at the beach and I CAN'T belive that they would put on a swimsuit without neatening up 'that' area first!
I swear, on some of those women at the beach it looks like there is a tarantula trying to escape from a cage !! LOL
Mommy2Isabella replied: OK ... Let me try to explain without getting graphic.
I didn't start shaving "there" until I was older, about 17, I am big on soft skin. I am always lotioning, that may help. I never get those bumps or redness or irritation. I also use a different soap, I use SENSITIVE skin soap for that. Because it is a sensitive area.
I hope that some of that helps. If you use shaving cream .. get the one with aloe and for sensitive skin, it should help lessen the irritation.
luvmykids replied: There's a shave gel and after cream made by Bikini Zone, helps A LOT. Also like Nina J said, exfoliate first (also helps with other ingrown/razor bump prone areas) And for stubborn ingrown hair areas like thighs (I have that problem too) a lotion or toner with salicylic or glycolic acid, like you find in the acne section.
luvbug00 replied: ditto to all above. sharp razors i think are the #1 thing to prevent the rash and all. as for the more intamite area I use baby oil after a shave becuse it tends to take longer for the hair to grow back ..then again i can't stand a not clean street...KWIM..
Nina J replied: LOL I always giggle, and DH just looks mortified and tells me not to laugh because we should be embarrassed for them. I always wonder if they realise?
holley79 replied: Well it's DH and I both laughing... Except when we are overseas then it is very normal for women not to shave anything.
As for the question:
I get waxing done. Full leg and Brazillian. Once you get it done a few times it's no biggy, the hairs start coming in finer and finer and you can start going longer periods without getting it done. I didn't get it done while I was prego but I have an appointment Tuesday. While I was prego I was shaving and now I realize why I was getting waxed. It's OH SO worth it.
luvmykids replied: Holley, how long do your leg hairs have to be? I've always wanted to get my legs waxed but go crazy and shave before it's long enough.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I've been using the Aveeno brand shaving cream lately and that seems to help. I also lotion up really well (I'm talking laying it on thick) after every shower to help sooth the skin.
Bee_Kay replied: OK, I did some "personal grooming" (for lack of a better term) last night.
I used a brand new sharp razor and used lots of lotion afterwards.... So far, so good
Thanks!!
mckayleesmom replied: I always use shaving gel and never have a problem with either....If I use soap...then my legs get irritated. Never had a problem down there...
My2Beauties replied: I want to start getting my legs and bikini area waxed again. I never did my legs but got my bikini once, it hurt but it was worth it. I bet the leg hurts!
kimberley replied: i don't shave my upper legs because i don't get hair there but for the "other" area, just make sure you use a brand new razor every time and moisturize right after.
