signed up for a preschool! - Yikes!

DansMom wrote: Last night DH and I attended an open house for a coop preschool near us (this would be for the fall) and paid the registration fee... gulp. Since it's a coop, parents are actively involved and have to work several days a month, participate in fundraising (or pay the equivalent), and attend meetings. It's Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I'm worried about snack time (because of Daniel's allergies), but they seemed prepared for my concerns, and because the child/adult ratio is 4:1 it seems like things will be well-controlled. The teacher has great credentials and we like her a lot. These coops are SO MUCH cheaper than the preschools in our area, which truly are equivalent to college tuition: although I'd love to give Daniel a Montessori type preschool experience, we can't afford that. The facilities are in a Methodist church, but it's not a religious preschool. The literature says that they will celebrate traditional holidays and encourage all parents to share aspects of their own culture with the students. I liked the apparent diversity that I saw among the people attending the open house. Daniel had a blast while we were there. We also realize we have to be serious about potty training this summer, since they are supposed to be potty trained before starting (Daniel's birthday is only 5 days before the cutoff date, so he'll likely be the youngest in his age group).

Okay, I'm just babbling now. Carry on!

A&A'smommy replied: That sounds like it will be a really great experience. I'm probably shouldn't be surprised at the prices in some preschools but wow I am, are they just really high class or do they teach children to speak other languages? But anyway it sounds like it will be a good thing and fun too I would love to get invovled with something like that unfortuantly we only have one thing like that and its a mess.

ammommy replied: A coop is our second choice, if DS doesn't get into our church program. A good friend sent all three of her kids through a coop program. She was very busy, but really enjoyed it.
I'm having a tough time with this preschool milestone sad.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: That sounds awesome! I'll bet Daniel will love it.

I don't have to worry about preschool yet thank goodness. She was born two days after the cutoff so we have an extra year. Whew!

DansMom replied: The cutoff here is so late! December 1. I wonder what it is in other places?

kit_kats_mom replied:
september 1 here in FL

coasterqueen replied: Wow preschool?! huh.gif I can't believe we are talking about preschool. unsure.gif Since the cut-off here in Illinois is Sept 1 Kylie won't start preschool til 4 if we even do it then. We'd love to do Montessouri too but it's just not in the finances but Kylie will at least hopefully be able to go to the preschool in our school district so who she goes with then will start kindergarten with her too.

Sounds like an awesome place!

Kaitlin'smom replied: I think its also sept 1 in ohio or at least where i am so we are talking fall of 06 for us, which is good for me we have to move first and I am not ready to do that this yeat, maybe late in the year or next spring I dunno we have to look and see what we can afford and still be flexable in the budget

Wow sounds liek it will be fun for him. bawling.gif Okay I am not ready for that at all, heck i cant even imagin going to a toddler bed

chloe&tysmommy replied: Where does the time go? I'm sure Daniel will enjoy preschool. happy.gif

We have the option of putting Chloe in preschool for September, but I might wait until she's 4 or try her for the second semester in January. I don't think she would stay herself...she's very attached to me. I can't believe how fast they grow up bawling.gif

Kolesmom replied: I have been told by Kole's therapist that I should start looking to send him to pre-school in the fall. He will be 2 in April. My husband doesn't like the idea, and said he will not be getting anything different there than at home. He also said that I quit my job to stay at home with him after he was born so early and had such a hard start. He goes to the library once a week for storytime and social hour with other children. I am not sure what I am going to do.

ammommy replied:
Can you look for a Mom's Day out program (the politically correct term may be Children's Day In)? It's usually once a week for a few hours. The child gets to be around peers without Mom being around, but it's not daily. That's what we are doing right now.
Is he in speech therapy? If so, hearing his peers pronounce words does make a difference.

Josie83 replied: Wow good for you! We have signed Cassie up for a nursery that she will start after Easter five monrings a week and I can't believe it! It is so schooling. She will be learning so much and make so many friends, though, so I am quite excited for her. Isn't it such a scary experience? I'm sure Daniel will be fine, it sounds like he will get a lot of attention! xx
